Lowering ones standards does not work and only leads to discontentment and suffering. Choosing ones own preferences and standards is impossible since attraction is a biological process. No one can rationalize away things they don't find attractive in another person. That is why women will always fail trying to change society in regards to plus-size women. That is why a man will never go for a woman that is truly a good person, shares the same hobbies with him, is successful in life and so on when he does not find her attractive. Going for a man or women that you don't find attractive leads to an inevitable dead beadroom and following that resentment.

Unfortunately for women, since their standards for physical attractiveness are far higher than those of men, they all (at least those who want children and a stable man that won't leave her and the child alone at some point) have to settle for a man of lesser, and thus non existent, physical attractiveness than they originally desire in a sexual context. That is the basis of their dual-mating strategy; there are just not enough physically attractive men to go around to tie down and start a family with (AFBB). That is also why women tend to put up with a lot more abusive behaviour when in a relationship with a physcially attractive man. The sheer rarity and quality it takes for a man to stimulate a womans sexual interest based on physicality (the only type of real attraction that exists) alone is brutally high. Losing a man of such high biological quality must truly be excruciating for women, and numbing in the face of the possibility alone; a process most men are probably familiar with regarding "crazy but hot women".

What people should do instead is be realistic. Men and women alike have to realize that the people they themselves find attractive may not find them attractive, just as they themselves don't find everyone attractive. There is someone for everyone is a blatant lie and should not be spewed by society anymore, even though the benefits and reasons for such behaviour are quite apparent. Acceptance to the unfairness in life is the key to all of this. Seeing oneself as a tool for eugenics and darwinism, and the following betterment of the human race is of the utmost importance. Accept that your genes should not be passed on as they are not enough.
