Looks are important until you hit the looks threshold at which point she doesn’t mind talking to you.

After that point, you now have to pass the “ability to make a conversation enjoyable” threshold, or else she isn’t going to enjoy talking to you.

After that, you have to pass the “good company” threshold on a date where you have to prove you can be good company that she would want to spend MORE time with after the date. Or she’s not going to want to keep talking to you.

After that, you will have to pass the “long term compatibility” threshold where you both see if your individual personalities can last together long term.

women emphasize personality traits because that's what they perceive most men lack. Like if i reject 1 guy out of 10 because of his looks and 6 out of 10 because of personality, i will talk about personality. Same thing as men who want "nice" girl but don't meantion it because it is "assumed", and they have no issue finding someone nice.
What for? Like why should i? Men will never be happy with what i'll say. If i say that looks important they will go on a rampage about me being shallow and how they were lied to... if i say personality important they will go on a rampage about me being a liar, and virtue signaling. If i say both are important they will go on a rampage how looks are important and whine about foot at the door, as if how fast i will close it if there is no personality doesn't matter. So no.

At least 80% of men who are within a reasonable age range of me meet my minimum threshold for looks, but there are very very few of them that I feel safe with. Let alone have anything in common with or have a complementary personality to mine.

nobody mentions it because it’s seen as a given for both men and women. in dating the majority of people will only ever consider an option that met the minimum required looks threshold so when speaking about dating it’s already be assumed

This is the only 'agenda' I have so to speak, nobody reasonable is going to think you're shallow or a bad person if you admit looks are what *first* attracts you to someone, we are all human and that's a human behaviour.

So many people seem insistent on smearing men as these primitive shallow cavemen while women must always be morally superior and enlightened compared to men, so they would never ever commit the deadly sin of lust.

I mean don’t men do the same? Especially on this sub, I’ve seen so many men claim they don’t care about how much a woman makes and how she looks, that men settle more. If that were truly the case, you would be picking any random homeless woman off the street and marrying her instead of complaining on here about how women should lower their standards more.

But I could guess that much that what men actually mean is they want a woman who they find attractive to also find them attractive, too and they do somewhat care how she looks and what she does for work. I thought men were also able to have enough sense to know what women mean is that looks do matter, but morals and personality matter more and that it’s sort of a given for any person to find them physically attractive first, though that’s very subjective.

The problem with the whole looks debate is that you guys get upset when we deny the whole 20% of men thing. You think we are completely denying looks. We aren’t. But the 20% of men doesn’t mean THE SAME 20% of men. And yes there are studies to prove this. I agree there are probably a small group at the top and bottom who are universally attractive and universally not remotely attractive, but the 90% in between, there is always someone who finds them attractive.

Here’s how I see it. When I meet a man, i obviously notice if he’s attractive TO ME. But he is like a 2D painting. Nothing more. He Can be admired with zero sexual attraction. That’s how I view all men. Even the really ridiculously good looking ones. I can appreciate a pretty man but feel nothing towards them. Only once I have established a connection with them, do I start to feel an attraction to sleep with them. Therefore their personality IS the defining factor for attraction. If I feel no connection, he vanishes. He’s just another person. That is why there are so few men that I am attracted to. So I’m not saying that looks aren’t important. But their looks are enhanced by their personality or it makes them disappear.

I typically do not mention physical attractiveness as a trait as it isn't a necessity. The only physically necessary things for me to be able to consider dating someone are whether I am not disgusted by them, whether they have good hygiene, whether they appear to be healthy (including bmi) and whether they are around my own age. I also have a slight preference for men roughly between 165 cm en 195 cm (between 15 cm taller or shorter than me) for practical reasons. A lot of men easily meet this threshold, so this is typically not the problem. Personality, life goals, sexual compatibility etc are typically the problem, so it makes sense to only mention those.

Out of 100 men who are age appropriate and likely to be in my social circle, probably 90 of them pass the looks and initial safety tests.

The vast majority of the remainder of them get eliminated on the grounds of being not smart or interesting enough

Personally I have a really hard time to describe what I'm into physically because I don't think I have a specific type. Its more about the individual person and how attractive I find a guy can change when I know him better. So while I won't deny the importance of finding my potential partner physically attractive, I could find two men with very little in common and find both guys physically attractive.

Most of the guys I swipe left on who are “ugly” honestly just have unkempt beards and poor fashion choices. They’d likely be better looking if they had female friends to tell them their beard is gross. The beard is always gross on men under 52.
