The most optimistic estimates state that Tinder is about 70% male active users, and 30% female. Recent stats are now showing 4:1 and I've even seen numbers as bad as 9:1 in certain locations, but for the sake of argument we'll go with 7:3.

Let's be even more optimistic and assume that every active user on the app is looking to eventually pair off monogamously. (Obviously that's not the case, we know that at least 30% of Tinder users are married with another 12% already in some sort of relationship. We also know that men are biologically predisposed to seek out many attractive women, while women are predisposed to commit to one, or very few, high-status men.)

For both men and women let's say there's a linear distribution of attractiveness (5 = average, 8 = beautiful, 2 = fugly, etc.) and everyone wants to pair off with the most attractive partner that they can get their hands on. With a 7:3 sex ratio, this means that if you're an average (5/10) dude, you get absolutely nothing, even if you're willing to accept the ugliest woman possible. Thus, most men on Tinder (57%) will end up maidenless no matter how hard they try. You'll have to be an 8/10 man just to get a 5/10 woman. Want a girl who's fairly decent looking (6.5/10)? Mathematically, you'll need to be close to a 9/10 guy.

I believe that a man should not seriously use Tinder unless he can demonstrate that he is at least two of the following: popular, handsome, and/or white. Having at least two of these attributes should put you in the top 20% in the eyes of most women, but otherwise you should stick to daygame and nightgame.
