Og:

The orgasm gap is coming up a lot alongside the wage gap as yet more evidence of the oppression of women.

The argument goes that women only orgasm 60 percent of the time, and men 90. Men are selfish, the story goes. Men focus on their own pleasure only, and leave women to languish sexually.

I don’t buy this narrative behind the orgasm gap. Here’s why.

Women orgasm less across the board. Homosexual women orgasm less than homosexual men, unpartnered women orgasm less than unpartnered men.

10 percent of women have never experienced an orgasm at all, much less with a man. A very common problem with men is premature ejaculation. How many women have issues with premature orgasming? Not nearly as many. And it isn’t because we are getting special treatment. Often it just happens when we aren’t trying, not because we are placing too much special attention on male orgasms. Often it happens because we aren’t putting ENOUGH attention on it.

Also there is a pretty good case to be made that the female orgasm is typically more intense than the male orgasm. Although nobody will never know for sure, it is rare that I have an orgasm that causes me to convulse like a woman. I might breathe a bit heavy. That’s pretty much it. There is a good case to be made for quality over quantity.

Not to mention that there IS in many ways a lot more focus on the female orgasm. The majority of sex toys are designed for and sold for women.

Also, there is another interesting thing getting in the way of female orgasms: their reluctance to have anal sex. In the below study of the orgasm gap, including receptive anal sex in the session increased the odds of a woman having an orgasm more than any other sex act. In fact it totally closed the orgasm gap.

And yet we see women complain that the proliferation of anal porn is also harmful to women because it causes men to want it.
