I think that the main difference is social skills. Average men have typical human social skills and are able to talk to women, even if it is sometimes difficult for them to enter into relationships with them due to women's choosiness. Usually they eventually find relationships, though.

A below average man is a man who collectively has traits that are below average. It shouldn't be a difficult concept to understand. You can't sit there and give specific, because everyone is different. It could be something as simple as that he's solid but otherwise blind. Maybe he's otherwise average, but lacks confidence and social skills, a good job, or is shorter.

I think it's important to also note that average for a man is average to a man, but below-average to women.

A below average man (for the concepts of dating) is a man that most women would not date. Whether that value is 70% of all men or the 20% of men is irrelevant because it's an ever changing value determined by socioeconomic factors.

People say dumb stuff like "below average" man to describe someone typically with "special" outliers. Very socially awkward, mental health issue/disorder, obese, etc. That being said I also see it being used with "average man" in some conversations because some conversations end up being very zero sum. Meaning if you aren't deemed "attractive", and are just "average", you may as well be unattractive, undateable, etc. Idk these convos tend to be extreme a lot of times tbh.

Usually, when I talk about below average, I mean below range of average rather than below exact average. The worst third or quarter, but not the worst percent or five percent.

For example, the average IQ is 100, but people with an IQ of 90 to 109 would be considered average. Therefore, I would describe people with an IQ of 75-90 as people with below-average intelligence. People with an IQ of less than 75 are already on the verge of mental retardation.

Facial attractiveness, probably be men 3.5-4.5/10 in some stricter measurement, 3-4/10 taken more by eye and estimation.

Fatness, in the US, people who are severely overweight or obese, but not yet morbidly obese. Taken according to subcutaneous fat, not BMI.

For income, the median for men 25+ is $52,297 in the US, I would probably define someone in the $20,000 - $45,000 range as a man with a below average income. But here it skews the difference between the mean and the median quite a bit.

Height, 164-174 cm, or roughly 5' 5"-5' 8" tall in the US. And we need to take into account his ethnicity if we are talking about the context of dating.

But at the same time, if he were in the below-average range in too many things at the same time, then overall he can already be among the worst 1%-5% without having any one major flaw. He can have some below average traits, but others at least average, so that he is not too rare a statistical deviation.

While it isn't always clear what makes you below average some things are pretty cut and dry, like being short/balding/fat/etc.

Anything less than that and is below average.

Perhaps of those averages above they consider going outside the US to be not friendzoned or rendered invisible in the dating scene.

Attractiveness is the sum of all parts; and my hot opinion is that it's enough to be at most average at everything to be perceived as below average. So let's say you are average height, average looks, average weight, average intelligence, average wealth - then you are a below average man in the dating market. You need to have something to make up for your average traits.

Similarly, if have a lot of below average attributes then not even an excelling attribute can save you and the importance of each trait varies.
