Isn't there going to be a correlation between any quantifiable trait? Guys will get more messages as they get taller(up to a point), women will get more messages as they get closer to an ideal weight, I'd imagine everyone will get more messages with better jobs, etc.

1) money is an attractive feature for a man to have almost universally. its correlated with ambition and social skills and general shit-togetherness.

2) gold diggers exist, especially on dating sites

3) dating sites lower the social risks associated with approaching someone, so the amount of attention attractive features will get you is exaggerated.

but seriously regarding point 2 who ever denied that there are women out there who look specifically for men with money? who are you arguing against here?

I think BPers are pretty consistent about like attracting like. Men who advertise their income in online dating are going to attract gold diggers. If a man wants to find a woman who values him for him, he isn't going to find that by posting an online personal ad for himself bragging about how much money he has. It's common sense.

You're right, it's not a perfect correlation. Which suggest something else is going on or the sample is too small. How can an 18 year old who makes 100k get so little messages but the 19 year old get a ton but then dip down in messages at 20.

Another reason why the study is flawed is it records the messages the man gets. Usually women who message first are aggressive, gold digging or desperate. It's a bias sample of women.

The average woman does not need or want to message first unless they have an agenda.

I met my wife on OKCupid and was making 40k at the time several years ago when we started dating.

Why wouldn't a woman want to be with a guy that makes a lot of money? The BP position isn't that women are morally and physically perfect creatures who will date angry bitter TRPers and incels because they see your true beauty under your horrificly hostile, mysoginist and small minded exterior.

A lot of women want to fuck and date/marry tall ripped rich guys. This is not news.

Plenty of not tall not ripped and not rich guys are fucking and marrying women.

And depending on where you live, that point is way north of 100K.

Six figure salaries aren't really where marginal returns on happiness start occurring, especially since it isn't a very impressive number if you live in expensive locales.

Furthermore, it's an easy way to quantify success: It's pretty hard to tell from someone's profile if they're good at what they do, and those measures tend to be pretty variable by person. On the other hand, income's a pretty easy and lazy way to measure accomplishment.

It's really not that close to flawless.

But part of the reason it looks good is that this chart isn't looking at the messaging stats of individual people it's looking at group averages. So all traits besides income get averaged out. A hot guy with low income will get more messages than an ugly guy with high income but for every hot guy with low income and ugly guy with high income there's an ugly guy with low income and a hot guy with high income averaging them out (well not exactly as there probably is some intercorrelation between physical attractiveness and income but it's close). So basically what we're seeing here isn't that income is super important but just that if all other things were equal women would prefer a higher income which is pretty much an obvious statement. Why wouldn't she?

What I'm more interested about is the parts that are outliers. What's it about 22-24 year olds who make around 100K that causes them to be in such a low/mid quartile? Are they maybe not believed? And same with 41 year olds- what's so special about that age? Honestly there is a general pattern but the outliers are wild and fascinating

It only goes up to 100k btw.

In many cities like NYC, 100k is baseline for decent living.

Besides, nobody says that income doesn't matter. I care about our combined income to be above 75k. If I make 75k I'm fine dating someone who made no money (as long as they're not being lazy and actually are doing something, whether it's around the house or pursuing a hobby). If I make 0, I'd prefer him to make 75k. I'm working hard to make sure I don't make 0 though, and I wouldn't mind if I made more than him (actually prefer it) as long as our combined income is fine.

Of course girls like men who earns a lot. But there are two other things I find interesting about the map.

1) there is a income bracket at around $50k which is almost as succesful as the higher $100k. 50k is middle class in the USA I think. Perhaps these are girls who just want someone like themselves, not too much poorer, not too much richer.

2) no girls wants a dude who makes less than $30k/year. Why on earth should they? 99% chance he's a loser. But plenty of girls would be fine with a guy who makes a moderate amount of 30-40k.

It's also pretty dumb. The more money he has, the more he's going to be unsatisfied with your looks and trade you in for a younger, hotter model.
