It's not bad nature. It's bad nurture. She was probably raised in a household with poor diet.

It's hard to break that cycle as an adult once you're already fat, I'm sure.

But this is an issue men struggle with as well.

People with bad metabolism can eat about 200 calories per day less than people with good metabolism, all else equal. That's like half a donut. The bad metabolism argument is fat-logic and hamstring for the fact that they don't have the willpower to put down the fork.

After being fat and losing the majority of it, I'm convinced that it is generally true that skinny people eat less calories on average than fat people. The thing is, fat people don't understand what it's like to just not eat that often or eat smaller meals just because. They're addicted to the way food makes them feel, while skinny people don't depend on constantly high insulin/dopamine levels from always eating. I believe the reality of it is, if you're fat and can't understand why, you need to accept that you just eat too much and need to embrace the feeling of not eating so often/as much.

I feel like the amount of people with true genetic/hormonoal disorders is pretty slim when it comes to weight. Most people are just entirely fucking ignorant about the amount of calories that are in the foods they eat. This also applies to skinny dweebs who always say 'I wish I could gain weight ,but muh fast metabolism'. Like damn guys, most of you aren't some special case and it's calories in/out, not that hard to figure out

Refined carbs, plain and simple. My work requires that I spend large amounts of time with a team of 4-5 people on the road. Often there is a "fat one" on the team, and every time that person is addicted to carbs. Whether it's a soda and candy bar at every pit-stop (which no one else gets), or a 16oz beer (when no one else is drinking). Sometimes it's due to ignorance of how nutrition works, sometimes they know and they are too addicted to change, but refined carbs are always the common link.

Funny how the fat ones are talking about metabolism,while they consume 3000+ calories,which in comparison to a 1800-2000kcal diet,even in relation to the weight,requires a much faster metabolism,meaning that if you drop 500 kcal(1pound per week) you would still consume double the calories.

Genetics can effect your calorie consumption levels by 10%ish. Which would mean about 200 calorie difference in extreme cases. But regardless, it's still a matter of what you choose.

I've never known a really heavy person that also did not eat a fuck ton. Many obese women will purposefully eat less at dinner and take it half home, just to feign something or other. Pretty transparent.

Most people are fat , some are just better at showing it. Visceral fat is actually worse than subcutaneous fat. Most fatties and landwhales have both, never big boned.

I have a lot of fun in clinic when I treat these landwhales and explain to them that the bodymass index does not care about your "natural curves" and "beauty standards" lol.

There are genetic alleles that can give a person an advantage in staying fit. Non-functional fat insulin receptor alleles will prevent obesity regardless of diet while non-functional myostatin alleles will give a muscular physique regardless of exercise. Gene therapy could give these advantages to anyone, but there are many obstacles.

That said, there are individual differences in people. There amounting evidence that not genes, but the microbiome in our gut makes us prone to obesity and that those bacteria can be passed on.

Nothing that cannot be countered with a correct diet and some exercise. So fatties have absolutely no excuse.

That goes doubly for the ppl on this subreddit. Plenty will whine about bad genetics, everything from big boned to short, some complaints more valid than others.

You know what I say: Yea I might be 6'2 in burger units, but having a Jason Statham hairline at 15 years old plus violent ketosis pilaris on my forarms dosnt exactly do ones confidence and ego any good.

You gotta learn to play the hand you've been dealt. Incidentally, it wasnt till the age of 20 and a trip through military conscription that I learned to just look at whatever haircut Bruce Willis or Jason Statham has and just copy that. And just deal with the fact that I'll never have longer hair, ever!

They've done studies and metabolism varies less than 10% between individuals. The reasons for obesity are less NEAT (non-exercise activity time) and lower calorie consumption estimations. IE fat people are lazy and deluded.

DNA probably accounts for the way a particular person's brain is engineered to be attracted to (and similarly be able to resist) certain foods. You know, what doctors conveniently call "willpower". That magical concept may actually be rooted in something biological (hand me the Nobel prize now).

I thought to myself, that's true, people can vary a lot in their genetics and metabolism.

I have a coworker, she is 35, she has a slim, fine body, her only problem is her face. She hit that wall too hard, but other then that, most of you would do her, without a question.

Her husband is 2m tall, 130kg, and she can out-eat him. She can out eat me too, and i can eat a lot!

The point is, she always had the same figure since i know her (5+ years), with 0 exercise. So yes, from my own experience i know, genetics matters. Some people are lucky, but the rest have to be in control. You don't even have to exercise if you don't want to be fat. Just care about the quality and a quantity of your food, which is not that hard.

Interesting. I have read about people having too few calories (losing fat and muscle) and then ballooning up when they get enough because they finally have sufficient nutrition. Any chance this could be you? I'm not super knowledgeable about this phenomenon but it might be worth looking into for you.

Of course genetics plays a part - but what most blue pillers make the mistake of, is ignoring science and over estimating the amount of people that have these sort of issues. Its like 5-10% either side of the bell curve, meaning for 80% of the pop they have normal genes

In north america, where 50% of the population is clinically obese, I would say, prior to the age of 40 and the onset of andropause/menopause, most young people who are fat are fat because they are lazy.

Genetics helps but it's not the determining factor. My GF eats pretty horribly half the time I feel, but she's a skinny 110 lb girl still. However, she usually eats small portions. Even if she eats fast food 4 times a week it's like all she eats is a small frie

It's two fold. The skinny people lack the appetite to eat in such copious amounts and generally eat more constrained and taste oriented. They are also more likely to engage in physical activity because they hold more confidence in their bodies.

Metabolism then continues to complicate the problem for the overweight persons and this vicious cycle makes it almost impossible to break for weak willed people.

Personally I think having a fast metabolism is like having superpowers (especially for men). Whenever I'm bulking up it's not even bulking. I gain incredible amounts of mass and melt of pretty much all fat quickly thereafter. The last bits of body fat is completely gone by the time I've started to up my cardio. This is extremely helpful if you're required to be masculine and in shape.

You don't have to juggle diets all the time, only small adjustments. Muscle mass builds up faster than someone with a slow metabolism. The list goes on, so it's fair to say that people with bad genetics do have more problems staying in shape.

I have had weight problems my whole life. Never been Morbidly obese, but in southern california in the 70's, being 20 pounds heavy got you called FATTY!

Many of the girls who teased me in grammar school were plates in High School. I still get compliments from my peers on how good of shape I am in for 51, but the IDEA of getting fat has always been on my heels.

I have to be grateful to the kids who teased me... they MOTIVATED me to start lifting in 1980. Once you develop a 'buff' frame, you can always call it back into service in a few weeks in case you 'slip'

Teasing and name-calling has an upside!

The modern woman is a child who can't even take care of her own body.

They lack the knowledge to eat properly half the time, and the other half they simply lack the discipline and mental fortitude not to stuff their faces. All most women have to do to be attractive to literally 80% of all men on this planet is NOT BE FAT and most fail even at that.
