I have been staying in a hostel for over a week and I have met a guy who doesn't live here but goes to the hostel bar to pickup girls. In the ten days or so I have been at this hostel, he has slept with 5 or 6 girls and has got laid every night I think. I have been watching what he does and have noticed the following (I don't necessary even like what he does but it seems to work well and I can do it too at least some degree). A lot of it is based on keeping his social status high:

(Edit: I disagree with several things this guy does and he does come across as creepy and weird once you've been around him for a few days and realised it's all fake. But there are some things I can learn from him.

The biggest one, to be more sociable and talk to lots of people when in a bar environment. Don't be scared about starting some little interactions with people and don't be scared about going up to someone you have only met once briefly, fisting bumping and acting like youre their buddy to some extent. Then you can meet their friends and do the same later. However this depends on the bar and hostel bars are probably the best for this and some bars may be much harder.

But people will actually like this and accept you more if they think you're popular, which if doing this a lot, you will seem. This will probably seem unnatural if you aren't used to it but that's like anything you want to learn.

The second one, to talk to lots of girls and not be scared of rejection because the social proof you get from talking to a lot of girls will probably outweigh the rejections. Girls get jealous if they like you and then they see you talking to another girl. And when the girls who rejected you sees you are getting along with lots of girls it may increase their attraction to you and doubt their rejection. Plus it makes you look confident talking to other girls too.

The things I don't like are the extent to which he pretends to be popular and buddies with people, and the sleazy things he says to girls. The sleaziness may help filter out the girls who aren't up for getting laid fast, but it's not my personality to be like this and I don't want to be a creep. Also, it doesn't feel natural to me to act buddies with people I have just met, but I think that's just because I'm not used to and I don't think there is actually anything won't with being like this so I want to practice this more

He also doesn't really have long and deep conversations with people and acts quite arrogant and aloof. Again the arrogance and aloofness can actually help picking up girls, it's all personal preference with how willing you are to look like a bit of a dick.)

  • he talks to a lot of different people at the hostel bar. He goes up to guys he has talked to maybe once, gives a fist bump or shakes their hand and has a very quick conversation with them etc. He does this a lot and it makes him seen very popular. Most of these people he has probably had one brief conversation with before.

  • through these people he talks too their friends a bit too. And then I think later that night he does the same with their friends, does up to them shakes their hand, has a conversation etc. Each night he goes to the hostel bar he therefore "knows" people when he gets there.

  • he acts like he knows them better than he really does (fist bump instead of hand shake mostly, acting causal, not looking too eager to talk or trying to find out a lot about that person. This makes him seem like he is talking to a buddy, not meeting a guy for the second time who he doesn't really know)

Also, I think people respond to him quite well because he seems popular too. So when he talks to a guy like this they are now likely to treat him with respect etc, which makes him look even more popular. It's easy to talk to a lot of people if you hang out with him and it also makes you look popular so it makes you want to be his friend for that reason. (I don't even really like the guy after finding out more about him and the way he be treats people in these ten days, but I can't demlny I still want to hang out with him because it increases my social status and makes it easy for me to talk to new people).

  • he acts a bit aloof, kind of like he didn't give people too much attention. Like he is the important one and people need to win his attention. I think this works because he talks to a lot of people and seems popular which reinforces his high status, so these two things both works together. It's not a lot of aloofness, but it's a bit.

  • he talks to a lot of girls and moves on quickly from a rejection without wasting time. This risks lowering his status if girls see him rejected a lot, but he moves on quickly when he gets a rejection and acts like he isn't bothered at all, so if anyone is watching he doesn't really look as bad as if he reacted in some way or kept trying with the same girl, getting more rejected. Also actually the benefit of looking popular with girls by talking to lots of girls (any one girl watching him will probably not see most of the rejections because it only happens briefly then he moves on) probably outweighs the risk of him getting rejected a lot.

  • he is very forward and even rude to some girls. Half the girls he talks to thinks he is weird or a a dick because he comes on super strong (but he gets away with it with half the girls probably because he is Italian and they assume it's just Italians). Eg with one girl she was eating fries and he said he wishes he was those fries. It didn't make sense and was embarrassing tbh and she didn't really get it. But he ended up sleeping with her another night.

With another girl he made a joke about her breasts which she didn't like and found rude but it didn't faze him at all. And it's probably this lack of reaction that's the most important, both in case other people are watching so it didn't lower his social status too much and also because it actually can make the girl more attracted even though he is rude or sleazy.

Another night, I managed to invite a really hot girl from my dorm room to come with us. I told him to not speak to her in Spanish when she comes down because he does that every time he meets a Spanish girl (she is Mexican and I don't know social Spanish) and he says ok and then as soon as she came down he talks to her in Spanish. I defended myself in front of her and told him he's being a dick on a mocking kind of way to which he gets a bit embarrassed, especially because he was holding another girl from the previous night so he said it's not a big deal because he is with her.

When me and the girl were waiting for drink token (weird system in this bar), I was behind her waiting while she was getting tokens and he pushes I front of me and put money on the counter and asks for a drink token. He then starts speaking to her in Spanish again and strokes her arm a bit when he talks to her. Really pissed me off because he is trying to look more important than me and block me out the conversation, and luckily she didn't seem interested and still went home with me, but it's an example of how he is really forward even when trying to take someone else's girl (as in a girl another guy is trying to hook up with).

Being this forward does have the benefit of screening girls quickly, so he knows without wasting much time which ones are interested, and which ones are likely to want to have sex (if he says things which are quite forward then if she goes along with it then she is more likely to be up for sex whereas if she looks like she doesn't like him because he is sleazy then he just moves on to another girl, or probably chats with a guy he knows to recover his social status)

  • he exhagerates his success in life. i don't like this at all tbh and it's not my personality, but I think it works. He says he is a pilot and has a photo of him flying a plane. He says he is a DJ too, and he is involved with music because he has examples of songs he can created and a photo of DJing on stage many years ago with a now famous dj (he told me he is also a sound engineer at a big studio). He also does tours of the city to be tourists. Something doesn't add up and I think a lot of this is just lies.

  • he acts confident but didn't really spend much time talking to the same person and getting to know them. It's all about looking popular really and having lots of little interactions with different people. I don't like the feeling of acting like this when I don't feel like it inside and having only superficial interactions but it works well, and probably makes him actually feel more genuinely confident over time.
