Guess the woman that made the commercial figures that men think with their dicks. On the hand, a woman's ass is exactly the place Gilette shoved themselves in, so it's fitting.

Edit: Someone also needs to remind Gillette that they're also still charging women more for razors (Ignoring the fact that the "pink tax" is hogwash). Not to mention I thought "for men" products were just because of our fragile masculinity anyways.

[–]tenchineuro 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Edit: Someone also needs to remind Gillette that they're also still charging women more for razors (Ignoring the fact that the "pink tax" is hogwash). Not to mention I thought "for men" products were just because of our fragile masculinity anyways.

I was looking into this awhile ago and it appears that there are different import taxes for different items, as I recall the import tax was higher for women's razors than for men's, so the end cost of the same razor packaged for women would be higher by that amount. In some cases men's items are taxed higher. I'm sure that the history behind this is fascinating, but at least for now, in some cases items imported for women's use may cost slightly more because of this.

[–]csjjm 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Very interesting! I'll have to read about that! I was just making the point that if Gillette is going to be so progressive they should also eliminate the pricing disparity between genders since feminists claim they're only charged more because they're women.

[–]tenchineuro 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was just making the point that if Gillette is going to be so progressive they should also eliminate the pricing disparity between genders since feminists claim they're only charged more because they're women.

You know, I've never actually verified these things, I've only seen pictures on the net of unknown provenance. But to the extent it's true you have a point.

[–]mr_geral -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I love everything about this. The backlash they had, the dislikes they are deleting on Youtube AND this try to fix things up. To really think we're that driven by ass. JFL

[–]RaptorsCdwoods 368 points369 points370 points 7 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

And that’s one of the things the ad was against as well.

posts ad about not catcalling or be demeaning to women

posts picture of their logo on women’s asses.

Great fucking marketing plan their Gillette. 10/10 would ruin your business again.

[–]many_mean_comments 126 points127 points128 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Indeed! "You're all degenerate monsters for looking at women's asses! Now buy our asses products"

[–]deville05 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

But are the car girls demeaning. One could argue that they get paid well and willingly do it. How can we demean someone if they don't feel demeaned by why we say or do

[–]psilorder 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think the argument is that it is demeaning to women as a gender (or sex fir those who subscribe to multiple genders) . Which is ridiculous. But I think that is their argument.

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points26 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's /r/nottheonion material

[–]mightylordredbeard 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Catcalling and demeaning a woman is a bit different from a highly paid model posing for a photo shoot though, isn’t it?

[–]shitposterkatakuri 66 points67 points68 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Very different indeed. But exploiting female sexuality to sell shit to men promotes the same objectification they claim most men need to work on AND perpetuates the idea that guys can be manipulated to do whatever if you just show em some ass. Moreover, the video was very preachy. That's the issue. It's not that almost all of us are against catcalling, vicious bullying, and demeaning women. We are. But to make a video suggesting that our masculinity is leading to a myriad of terrible life positions and choices is just offensive. Imagine if someone made a video telling women not to throw babies in dumpsters, lie about birth control, lie about rape, share custody fairly, stop ridiculing each other for outfits, and all the other most sexist, vicious stereotypes you can think of. Then imagine the ad was for a female product and the narrator said "is this really all a woman can be? we believe you can do better." Most women would be like "no shit we can do better. We DO do better. Fuck off." And that's a response I would defend because they ought not be disparaged based off of the actions of a few. And as a sidenote, maybe some guys are shittier guys because of a LACK of masculine role models and the breakdown of the family. No father figures, single moms, mostly female teachers, etc. Maybe exposure to normal masculinity is the solution rather than the problem for young boys, instead of the warped facade of masculinity they absorb from music and movies. Gillette was dumb.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

"prestige" advertising is always retarded low effort trolling if it makes you talk about it its winning. source, worked in advertising for 12 years. Once you grow up long enough to see patterns you'll understand this. Or just watch mad men.

[–]shitposterkatakuri 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

so it's just to force convo?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

yeah, of course its intentionally edgy if it's well done it draws attention to the brand via controversy, but because the offensive aspect is done in a deniable wink and a nod dogwhistle fashion instead of being overt, it can stoke a big debate which draws lots of attention without making it obvious which side it really falls on. Of course in reality it falls on neither side, the upshot of this is more eyeballs and more money. Just like this ad.

[–]shitposterkatakuri 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Idk man. They haven’t done anything in response to pushback. I think they made a gamble on going woke for money

Commercial says men need reprogramming but puts their logo on a bunch of woman's asses for all the men to see.

This pic looks like it's from 2011. Kind of old news compared to the recent ad, eh?

While I think the idea that they as a company actually give a shit about anything beyond profit is a bit of a stretch, don't you think it's possible for them to change at least a bit in 7.6 years?

[–]Triple_Beam 44 points45 points46 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The only thing they changed is their marketing strategy, the not giving a fuck part isn't going to change.

I was hoping you would infer from the photo but I can spell it out. These same guys that put a mop in the hand of Rosie the Riveter and put the word Gillette on the asses of women suddenly care about women's issues? From the same guys that said women were fighting a battle against greasy pots and pans.

I think they could go through a period of mea culpa if this is so close to their hearts.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No..? Why? Lol. This idea that ideals change at all in such a small timespan or that ideals and morals are even involved at all in big corporations creating ads needs to die.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

yes you have a red pilled analysis of the reality of crafting advertising for billion dollar plus companies.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Advertising agencies don't care shit about anything but whats going to get hits on their ads. Don't hold them up as scape goats for social justice they just work the trends. I worked in advertising for 12 years for many brands at least as mainstream as gilette, beleive me there is no social agenda involved. don't get all butthurt with you MRW/sjw analysis (two sides of the communism agenda). Follow the money.

[–]WarBanjo 21 points22 points23 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Read her mind.

Simple really...

[+][deleted] -9 points-8 points-7 points 7 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

imagine being able to understand what someone else thinks who isn't exactly like you are. If you can wrap your pea brain around that, image knowing how to use that knowledge to make people happy who you might not agree with their thinking or just might not care.

I've done it for years, it's called not being an autistic incel. Read about social cues. Thats why I've had a 12 plus year career working in entertainment and you can't even imagine getting laid.

[+]LadyandtheWorst -7 points-6 points-5 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's what half this shit feels like. It's autistic incels saying "but how do I talk to girls if I make them feel uncomfortable?"

Women aren't that hard to understand. They're literally just people. Talk to them that way. If you have a problem thinking of women as people, you're the exact person this is targetted to.

There are legitimate Men's Rights issues to be worried about. Teaching our children to be better than we are, and to treat people with respect, isn't one of them.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I love all the down votes. Spotted the incels.

Just last night I kissed a girl who I had only met a few hours before, without needing to ask for permission, because I was pretty darn sure she wasn't going to complain based on the verbal interactions we had been having up till then, her body language, etc. She was very into it. How did I know this was ok? Can I read minds?

RedPill is deeply flawed and actually dangerous but for autistic people It does have some useful guidelines as far as the idea of how to play "games" which is something autistic people tend to grasp as they are rule based. The games you want to play are ones that are mutually beneficial to be played between two people sizing up if there is mutual sexual attraction while minimizing the necessity of blunt and confrontational rejection if one party is attracted and the other is not. You could call it "mind reading" ;) The trick is these are largely verbal and body language games, as opposed to involving numbers and twitch reflexes.

Of course theres alway a risk that you misread the situation no matter your confidence in your own understanding, but nothing ventured nothing gained guys. As for me I'm just biting my fingernails hoping she wasn't lying when she says she wants another date ;)

By the way I'm on the autistic spectrum and none of this insight was immediately intuitive to me. But it's like getting in shape physically, theres plenty of guidelines and tutorials out there, none of which are one size fits all, but if you learn your own personality and study a lot of approaches, you can find the right techniques that work for you, and implement them. Its a matter of your willpower.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Try some understanding a girls psychology and what she may be looking for given her status, then move to deniable flirting, double entendres, read some shakespeare indicate you are a man of culture. Get ripped, don't live with your parents after 18, keep your room clean, get a high paying job, Listen to jordan peterson and do what he says to but don't mention that you listen to jordan peterson. You're welcome for the advice incel fag. I've worked on tampon ads and I'm a dude. It's only confusing if you're more autistic than I am, and I'm on the spectrum lol.

How do you get that message AT ALL from the commercial?

[+]postmawho1 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (35 children) | Copy Link

Did any of you watch the commercial?! I didn't get that message at all.

[+]Tristan379 -26 points-25 points-24 points 7 years ago (34 children) | Copy Link

There's literally nothing wrong with the commercial's message; Just a hivemind of people that literally can't comprehend that "some men are cunts, be the better man and stop them" doesn't mean "literally all men are rapist idiots that should DIE"

[–]GingerRazz 21 points22 points23 points 7 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

Have you read the comments in this post gender flipping it attacking women rather than men? People are mad because pointing out the worst men do and charging all men to fix it is common now.

Could you imagine the outrage if it was targeted at women and told them to not kill babies, be not emotionally manipulative, not play the victim, start sharing custody evenly, etc?

Could you imagine the outrage if it targeted black people and said to not rape, not join gangs, not drop out of school, not murder, etc?

That is basically what this ad is. It's citing fringe cases that men, on average, already despise and saying we can be better than that. It's blatantly playing to negative male stereotypes and saying men can be better than that as if the vast majority of men aren't.

You might be unable to view it in that way, but an ad like this targeting almost any other group would be torn to shreds, and with good reason, too.

[+]postmawho1 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (21 children) | Copy Link

Pretty sure there are ads to stop people from joining gangs.

They aren't fringe cases though. Do you seriously not know any creeps? Have you been out of college for that long? Have you never talked with a girl and she's told you the awful things one your friends sent her? Have you even been to a bar? Women get their asses grabbed all the time when they're just talking to guys.

If you seriously think that the problem Gillette is talking about, is as big as those other issues, you either have your head in the sand or you're willfully ignorant.

[–]GingerRazz 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

I have met creeps. They're still an extreme minority. I also am not saying what you think I am. If Gillette was the only place that seemed to focus on the idea that men as a class need to do better, I'd probably just laugh it off. The problem is, their perspective is common and men being constantly treated as if we're always the bag guys and never the victim gets old to me.

It's no issue acknowledging that there are shitty men. It's the social narrative that men are the problem and women are wonderful that I'm sick of. Women can and often are every bit as awful as men can be, but I don't see ads targeted at woman anything like this. All the ads focused at women doing better focus on being the best, not just on being not shitty.

[+]postmawho1 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (19 children) | Copy Link

To call it an extreme minority is pushing it. Actually talk to some girls and it's appalling what they have to put up with.

I agree that there should be a conversation about shitty women. There are just shitty people in general. But Gillette is a brand for men and this ad was targeted at men. It would be really bad optics if they put out at ad that said "Women need to stop being shitty." This ad is men talking to men. Tweet at Tampax to run an ad about how awful women are. These companies are slaves to Twitter. If there's enough of you, they'll do it.

[–]Clemicus 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

But Gillette is a brand for men

There's also Gillette Venus.

I agree that there should be a conversation about shitty women.

No, there should be a 'conversation' about these different companies, the media, and so on who put out this type of material.

Your counter is just school yard mentality.

[+]postmawho1 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

Okay. Let's just all sit back and continue to get discriminated against. No conversation at all. Okay. That makes sense.

[–]GingerRazz 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

The thing is, you get a skewed perception of how common it is for a man to act that way if you look at women's experience. A creeper at a bar will harass one woman after another as they strike out. You could have 50 men and women at a bar with only 1 creeper, and he will probably make 30+ women uncomfortable.

It is appalling what women have to deal with. At the same time, at least they get sympathy and support for their problems. When something makes men uncomfortable we get shamed for our emotions while simultaneously being told us not sharing our emotions is toxic. There's just no winning unless a man expressed only the emotions people want us to have and not our real emotions.

[+]postmawho1 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (11 children) | Copy Link

I have a skewed perception backed up by the girls who experience it every day? That's really the skewed perception? That all of these girls are just seeing this one creep everywhere they go?

It's not a fucking competition who is more oppressed. Just because we think men are discriminated against a lot doesn't mean that girls are less discriminated against.

Exactly. All these people who are getting upset are probably the ones who saw themselves getting stopped for their behavior.

[–]Fuckoff555 20 points21 points22 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeahhhhh right, hundreds of thousands of people who are upset with this ad, not just men but there are women too, all them have a problem with this ad because they are assholes, and they don't want Gillette to remind them of that and to tell them to stop being one. Seriously? What a fucking manipulative and disgusting way to shame men into not expressing their discontent with this ad, just ugh.

If Gillette made an ad telling black people collectively that they need to be better blacks, and stop with the murdering and raping and stealing, would you conclude that any black people who get upset about the ad must be the ones who need to be stopped from murdering, raping and stealing?

There's also probably a reinforcing effect by the people who clicked the video only to dislike it .5 seconds into the video and close the tab without watching, then think Gillette personally removed their spammy dislike and get even more upset. If the accusations about genocide denial and comment removal are true that's obviously fucked up on Gillette's behalf, but people instead are focusing on the much less significant reason to hate the video and screech about soyboys and SJW's ruining their life.

The grid girls were PISSED about it, too. That was their livelihood, and from the sound of it, a sisterhood as well.

Its really funny how 1st and 2nd wave feminism were generally sex-positive and encouraging of individual agency over one's sexuality, and modern feminism is now being so outraged any time a woman voluntarily does something sexual that it actually represses women's freedom to make their own sex life choices...

I dont get how you people think you understand this stuff. Clearly any level of systemic analysis would tell you it is inevitable something like that would happen with progress. Girls are bat shit insane too but Gillette isn't talking to girls. And if that wasn't enough for you...

Clarence James Gamble, (January 10, 1894 – July 15, 1966) married to Sarah Merry Bradley-Gamble, was the heir of the Procter and Gamble soap company fortune. He was an advocate of birth control and eugenics, and founded Pathfinder International.

Clarence Gamble and James Hanes were founding members of the Human Betterment League of North Carolina in 1947. The League was tied to forced sterilization programs that saw both men and women, mostly poor, of low IQ, and predominantly minority extraction, undergo surgical sterilization without consent, with the goal being to reduce the state's welfare burden and improve the gene pool. The program ended in 1977; the state government apologized publicly in 2002. Governor Bev Perdue is advocating for financial restitution to be made to 7,600 victims.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarence_Gamble

Dr. Gamble spent much of his life studying genetic disorders, “mental deficiency” among children, and the ways in which women could be prevented from giving birth and having children. He is known to have corresponded with Margaret Sanger, the champion of the contraceptive pill and a eugenics advocate (as is understood from the language she used in her “Plan for Peace”).

From her letters to him in 1939, Dr. Gamble was supposedly against hiring black doctors at clinics. While Margaret Sanger’s plan for educating black communities about birth control options was to have black doctors be the ones to lead the effort, so as to not intimidate communities into making choices that weren’t exactly choices.

Dr. Gamble held a much different view. He specifically argued that poor African Americans’ reproduction needed to be controlled to stop imbecilic children from taking over the population. “The mass of Negroes, particularly in the South, still breed carelessly and disastrously, with the result that the increase among Negroes, even more than among whites, is from that portion of the population least intelligent and fit, and least able to rear children properly.”

Presumably, white doctors would help African Americans to stop having “feeble-minded” children. Gamble continued to work with Margaret Sanger on spreading birth control well into the 1950s.

[–]AnorexicBuddha -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Except for the fact that his source doesn't support his claim. It actually supports the opposite.

Also on what planet is asking for a source a "leading question"? Do you even know what that means?

[–]starvinggarbage -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

How in the fuck are you getting that it supports the opposite? You're just making excuses for the disproportionate rates, but the rates themselves are not in question. I've explained the numbers to you simply and clearly. The mother's rate is significantly higher than the father's. The link is not ambiguous on that.

[–]AnorexicBuddha -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

But it is ambiguous on the total rate of gendered abusers, which is what you're claiming. It doesn't even discuss the gender of non-parental abusers.

[–]starvinggarbage 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

We can discuss that in your other reply chain. Right here you need to explain exactly how the fuck this link proves to opposite of what I claimed. Or you could just admit you were talking out of your ass.

[–]AnorexicBuddha -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

If you include the non-parental data (nearly 20) the data comes out split between male and female. Again, your entire argument changed because of the source you chose.

[–]starvinggarbage 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Only if you assume that all of the remaining 20% are make, which you're obviously doing based on nothing.

And you still haven't explained how this would show the opposite of my point to be true, forcing me to conclude you're full of shit and talking out of your ass. As far as I'm concerned you've lost the right to be treated as an equal in this conversation. If you can't stand by what you say or admit when you've spoken in error then you can't conduct an adult conversation.

[–]AnorexicBuddha -4 points-3 points-2 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

........you know that source doesn't say what you claim it says, right?

[–]starvinggarbage 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

"According to NCANDS, a 2005 study showed that 79.4% of child abusers were the parents, and the next largest pool of abusers consisted of unmarried partners of the parents of child victims. A whopping 40% of child victims were abused by their mothers acting alone, and a disturbing 17.3% were abused by both parents."

79.4% were parents. 57.3% of abuse included mother's as the perpetrator and 39.4% included the father, while in a horrifying 17.3% of cases it was both of them. I don't know where you learned math but I grew up learning that 57.3 is a higher number than 39.4.

[–]AnorexicBuddha -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

79.4% were parents. 57.3% of abuse included mother's as the perpetrator

But only 40% was just the mother. You're either dense or being purposely disingenuous.

39.4% included the father, while in a horrifying 17.3% of cases it was both of them.

This is where your argument falls apart. Your argument is that women abuse more than men, but your source talks about parents, not gender. The second most common type of family is the single-mother, meaning that a significant number of families don't even have a dad around. This skews the numbers.

Additionally, there is a 20% gap in abusers that doesn't include parents. what's the predominant gender of that remaining 20%?

[–]starvinggarbage 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

That's not disengenuous. I included the 17.3% in the father's statistic too. If you want to play it like that then you have to acknowledge that only 22.1% was only the father. I didn't include that because I think it's deliberately misleading to make that claim while knowing the actual rate of paternal abuse is much higher, and it would create the false impression that mothers are nearly twice as likely to abuse children than fathers are, when in reality it's closer to a bit less than 50% more likely.

If you were to assume all of the non parent abuse would be male then they'd barely be beating out females for the total abuse rate.

I'm giving you the simple numbers and you're choosing to draw the conclusion that because there are a lot of single keep moms the difference in their liklihood to abuse a child is excused. I am not drawing the same conclusion but the numbers are not in question and everything I have said is factually accurate. I actually haven't included my opinion at all since posting the link. It is a simple fact that mothers are more likely to abuse a child than fathers are. Why that is or whether you care at all is entirely up to you, but it is a fact, and if we are going to be approaching problems from a gender standpoint than this one would have to be aimed primarily at women.

[–]AnorexicBuddha -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It is a simple fact that mothers are more likely to abuse a child than fathers are.

First off, again, that's not what your original argument was.

Secondly, that's because women are more likely to be parents than fathers are. They represent a plurality of abusers because they represent the plurality of parents.

Why that is or whether you care at all is entirely up to you, but it is a fact, and if we are going to be approaching problems from a gender standpoint than this one would have to be aimed primarily at women.

But again, that's not a study about gender, it's a study about parents.

[–]starvinggarbage -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You're ignoring that the majority of people committing this crime are of a specific gender

its not a study about parents, it's a study about abuse. It includes information about the rates at which parents of each gender commit abuse. But even if it were, a study about parents would inherently include gender because (excluding a small percentage of cases) there will be one parent of each gender for each child. Whether the father is allowed to see the child is not a part of this study and does not change these numbers. Mothers are more likely to be the perpetrators. Period.

If every problem that is committed more by one gender than the other is the responsibility of every member of that gender to stop (as this ad implies) then preventing child abuse is up to women.

[–]AnorexicBuddha -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Mothers are more likely to be the perpetrators. Period.

Because mothers are more likely to be PARENTS. Period. It doesn't even discuss the gender of non-parental abusers.

If every problem that is committed more by one gender than the other is the responsibility of every member of that gender to stop (as this ad implies) then preventing child abuse is up to women.

This is like talking to a wall.

Context?

[–]Tristan379 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Gillette made a commercial that essentially had the message "Some men are cunts, be the better man by not letting them be cunts". A shocking amount of men think that's a controversial stance and an attack on the entire gender, so they're upset at Gillette.

[–]starvinggarbage 19 points20 points21 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

More accurately it had the message "most men are cunts, you must stop them."

A commercial advocating doing the right thing in any context wouldn't have been controversial. A commerical where there's 100 men watching children beat each other until only one snaps out of his idiot stupor to stop the violence isn't saying "some men." It's saying "by far the vast majority of men."

Gillette sells women's razors too, right? Couldn't this have been a non gendered ad advocating everyone be good to each other, using the same examples and merely adding in non gender specific ones as well?

[–]starvinggarbage 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Go to Youtube, find the video, and watch it yourself.

It almost seems like Tristan is giving you an unbiased account of the context. However, if you can detect a "stance" in Tristan's comment, then I am sure you will detect a "stance" in the Gillette video, and it may shock you.

So there I was, putting on my rape shoes, and practicing my sexual harassment pickup lines this morning. I just got done cyberbullying my coworkers. It was time to shave, I yelled at my wife to smile because I demand it, while pinching her butt right after she told me she didn't consent to it. Putting on the shaving cream and thinking about how I can get my son into a fight at the next BBQ, I replaced the worn Gillette brand Mach3 and began to chant "boys will be boys" as I started to shave. Then suddenly my daughter burst into the bathroom holding her phone. As I began to mansplain to her why she isn't smart enough to know my shaving time is my time she showed me the new Gillette ad. I realized how my every view and behavior I've ever held dear was wrong. I'm calling in sick at the toxic masculinity factory today and registering Democrat. Thanks Gillette, now excuse me while I help to impeach.

What do Kruidvat girls from a race in Zandvoort, Netherlands in 2011 have to do with the United States of America in 2019?

I think if we were to apply Dutch concepts of masculinity, feminism, and sexuality to the United States you guys would be flipping your shit even more than you already are.

The average Dutch male would likely agree with message in the commercial, having the mental ability to distinguish between inappropriate behavior and liberal sexuality.

And the local Gillette Netherlands subsidiaries have had a 30% female quota target on their boards and leadership teams for the last six years.

The best mensrights can do is grid girls from eight years ago and 5,000 miles away?

I got the impression that the ad was suggesting that the men who hold themselves to the standards that you do can help to make a difference by stepping in when other men who aren’t as well adjusted are acting out.

It was an appeal to people like you to ensure that you’re not brought down to the level of the minority of men who behave poorly. To do this, you need to bring those men up to your standard.

It must feel like all men are being judged by the actions of a few bad eggs, but that’s the reality. If you go out one night and have a great time, but then get assaulted at the end of the night, that night will forever be tainted by the assault. If a woman goes out and encounters 20 seven guys but gets harassed by one dude, the harassment becomes the key event of that outing. It’s human nature to focus more on the negatives.

The ad is essentially playing to this - let the positive side of men shine through by not allowing the jerks to misbehave.

How often do you sexualize women? If you often sexualize women you should unsubscribe. 99% of us don't sexualize 99% of would tell out friends to not grab a girl's ass say. So those of us who are upset are upset that we are all being told to do what we already do, and it's a slight slap in our faces. We don't need a company to tell us how to treat women, that's what father's are for.

If you need a reminder to not sexualize women then you are kind of a shithead. Do you need a reminder?

[+]postmawho1 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

My girlfriend was talking to two guys in a bar and all they would talk about was her and her friend being naked and fishing.

Have you never seen a guy grab a girls ass at a bar? It happens all the time. If you haven't seen it you're not looking. If you've seen it and didn't intervene, you probably could have used this commercial. Have you never talked to a girl and she mentions some creepy ass texts that one of your friends sent her and you're like "Shit." and then not done anything about it? You probably could have used this commercial.

I honestly think if people have seen the MeToo movement, done self reflecting and been like "Yup. I'm still a good guy." You probably could have used this commercial.

I'm not sure if you're really old or really young, but the fact of the matter is, it's still a big problem.

Do you get upset when you see a Wounded Warrior Charity commercial because you already pay taxes to help Vets? To say that things are good to go and that people don't need to be shown how to intervene is ludicrous to me.

[–]percocet_20 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Couldn't agree more, I watched the commercial and wasnt the least bit offended. I think a lot of the people angry at this commercial are seeing a glaring finger pointed at them saying "you aren't doing enough to fix this problem" and their response is to just cover their ears and shout no, when their response should be "I AM doing my part to address these problems, I'm teaching my children to treat others by the content of their character and not what some say defines masculine or feminine, I'm calling out those around me for trying to perpetuate negative stereotypes and double standards of both men and women as well as violence".

[–]surfer_ryan 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Careful dude... this sub can really take the mens rights to the same level the exact feminist that they are talking shit about take it... it's weird to me that someone can be so vehemently opposed to something and then yet do that exact thing but its different because its them...

[–]percocet_20 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yea I've definitely noticed a change in this sub, I joined it because it was refreshing and in a way mentally helpful to see that people were taking advocating for a hard look at the double standards that negatively affect men. But as time has gone on it's become more of a platform for just "feminism is the enemy" and demonizing things that don't adhere to what's turning into a victim complex. The feminism movement has allowed a very vocal minority to begin creating this negative image of them and the men's rights movement is quickly following suit by doing the exact same thing. I know that I'm gonna get downvoted or possibly even banned (though less likely as I believe I've commented similarly and not been banned) but I believe anyone willing to advocate fair treatment should be willing to accept a form of accountability.

[–]WikiTextBot 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Psychological projection

Psychological projection is a defence mechanism in which the human ego defends itself against unconscious impulses or qualities (both positive and negative) by denying their existence in themselves while attributing them to others. For example, a person who is habitually rude may constantly accuse other people of being rude. It incorporates blame shifting.

Imagine being so emasculated that you bend to the whim of feminist dogma.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This ad accomplished nothing of value, and had wonderful unintended consequences.

Nothing of value? Yes, because the guys who actually do need to hear this message are either to stupid to understand this, or just don't give a fuck. So nothing there was accomplished.

Unintended consequence? All the guys who never even think this way are pissed off for the implication that they do. To imply that they think or act this way, or tolerate it from their friends is fucking insulting to them, and they're pissed off. Most normal men do not do abusive shit, and don't tolerate it. And have faith that the majority of their fellow men think the same way. So a commercial chastising men in general is considered an insult.

Second unintended consequence? The guys who secretly harbor these shitty feelings about women but are basically pathetic losers are all up in favor of the ad, because it strikes home with them. They know inside that they have these shitty feelings and attitudes, and project that on to the rest of the population. They can't understand they they are pathological, but that does not imply the rest of the population is.

And I guess the third unintended consequence is identifying all the women who buy into this hateful narrative. I doubt it's a very large portion . . . probably about the same size as the men who project their own depravity on the rest of the population and support it.

Certainly if there was a similar ad aimed at women that substituted things like "trapping your boyfriend by getting pregnant" or "filing false sexual assault claims" in exactly the same manner your trigger meter would be north of Roy Rogers.

No, we’re calling out naked hypocrisy. There’s a difference between having a grievance and having it dismissed outright versus having a company telling all of us how we’re the bane of humanity for having been born male (politically backed sexism) and then we see them doing this soon in recent history. It’s not being triggered. It’s calling them on their bullshit.

Gillette made a commercial that essentially had the message "Some men are cunts, be the better man by not letting them be cunts". A shocking amount of men think that's a controversial stance and an attack on the entire gender, so they're upset at Gillette.

[–]Cannon1 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A lot of us just take umbrage to being lectured to by a large multinational corporation that is trying to huck overpriced razors by appearing "woke". If it were within the power of "better men" to police their collective ranks, don't you think we would have?

Shitheels aren't oblivious to the fact that they're assholes. They just don't care.

[–]dtaylortx 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

And as a father I don’t want my son who is already dealing with hormones and state enforced misandry in his school being told by a razor company he’s a menace for having been born male so they can earn “woke points” to sell shit razors.

[–]Tristan379 -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You should make sure to teach him critical thinking skills so he doesn't somehow get that absurd message from the advertisement then?

[–]dtaylortx 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have. He was the one who dissected that from it. He’s pissed that it was done. I’m pissed that he had to see it. Just because you don’t think anything is wrong doesn’t mean others don’t. I don’t want my kid learning that ideology. He should be comfortable with who he is, not berated for his gender.

So for anyone who cares about FACTS, actually research shit before pointing out “hypocrisy”. The photos were taken in 2013 in the Netherlands, which is well before the #METOO movement.

How do I know? Look at the watermark and photographer name, google it and see where its geotagged and when it was.

[–]orcscorper 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What does poundmetoo have to do with anything? That was sbout sexual abuse and harassment, not paying women to wear tight pants with your name on them.

The hypocrisy comes from lecturing us all on how to be better men, with one bit specifically pointing out that it's wrong to check out women's asses, when this promo just a few years ago says "Hey! Check out these asses!" Nothing like a reformed sinner when it comes to moralizing .

[–]cjekaf 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

[–]pastelrazzi -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

Why do you all care so much about an advert? It's the most hysterical display of mass fragility I've ever borne witness to.

[+]nO0f1 points 7 years ago [recovered] (15 children) | Copy Link

I really don't care. But if say Bob tells me that I need to not name call because name calling is mean, and Bob has history of name calling whereas my history is good. I'm going to call Bob out.

[–]pastelrazzi 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Yeah woke capitalism is grating for sure. I just don't understand why this particular example has people so riled? They were riled before any examples of hypocrisy, so it clearly isn't that.

[–]Darkkujo 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

It's stereotyping the behavior of an entire group based on the bad behavior of a few. It'd be like an ad showing images of terrorism followed by the tagline: Muslims, you can do better. There would be an explosion of protests following that.

[–]pastelrazzi 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

That's false equivalence for a bunch of reasons. Mainly because hardly any, like <0.00000001% of Muslims are terrorists, while there are men saying boys fighting is good in these very comments.

Also because Muslims are a less empowered minority in the West and are regularly attacked and victimised just for being Muslims. It's not the same for men. I know that last point is gonna infuriate you by what sub this is so there'll be no point arguing it.

[+]nO0f1 points 7 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

Wrestling/play fighting is good, fighting with an attempt to cause pain is bad. Maybe you personally can't make the distinction.

My ex was an immigrant and a Muslim, her dad works for Microsoft, I dated her for four years. No one ever came up to her and harassed her for being Muslim. Your creating a situation that doesn't exist. Like saying all pitbulls are killers.

[–]pastelrazzi 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I just checked the FBI hate crime statistics and yeah its just a picture of your ex's dad with "everything's fine" so I concede your point. Seriously, how am I supposed to respond to that?

[+]nO0f1 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

Your making up problems that don't exist. I have first/second hand experience and what you're saying isn't a real problem. So yeah, you probably shouldn't respond.

The only people that ever gave her problems that she talked about were other Muslims.

[–]pastelrazzi 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No no, I agree with you 110 per cent and concede your point. We're lucky that you know the one guy who contitutes the entire Muslim population of the Western hemisphere, ortherwise I could see this conversation dragging on.

[+]nO0f1 points 7 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

314 Muslims being attacked in 2017 is hardly, regularly attacked and victimized

There were 860 attacks on whites in 2017 for being white.

https://ucr.fbi.gov/hate-crime/2017/topic-pages/victims

[–]pastelrazzi 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Do you think there'll be an increase in hate crime against men because an advert suggested kids shouldn't fight?

[+]nO0f1 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

No, but part of life is knowing yourself, knowing your strength. Knowing your weaknesses and where you need to grow.

I "fought" my Mexican neighbors in elementary school. We developed a strong mutual respect and in HS I was one of the few white kids welcomed among them.

I was jumped in college. Thanks to my wrestling skills, I got a broken nose, but dudes ended up running away. It wasn't because I was white or a man, they were just drunk assholes looking to fight. I probably would have ended up a lot worse.

In karate I was taught to defend myself, not to attack. If you can defend yourself you will not bested.

Men grow up wrestling, it's what we are, just as my dog goes to the dog park and play fights other dogs. To pretend it's a part of society and not because we are innately animals is completely ignorant.

To pretend everyone in the world will treat each other well is extremely alluring, but completely unrealistic.

Fighting is a strength, with it comes the lack of fear to go into a burning building. With it comes the confidence to stand up for yourself, not with violence but if it gets to that point, you will not be pushed around. With the ability to fight gives a country the ability to defend itself. The ability to fight creates men able defend the weak.

[–]pastelrazzi -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You think the advert was saying kids shouldn't play?

[–]Darkkujo 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I suppose a better example then might be and ad directed at black people telling them to stop committing crimes. I'm aware of that whole victimization narrative and I think that's somewhat irrelevant too. We're talking about what at base constitutes racism/sexism and reinforcing negative stereotypes is a big part of that. How is that less offensive and socially harmful to a group just because they don't have a historical victim narrative? You people are creating hypocritical double standards to allow yourself to practice the behavior you condemn in others. You might be blind to it but awareness is spreading rapidly.

[–]pastelrazzi 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

P&G said it has no plans to pull the spot in the face of some negative reaction, The Wall Street Journal reported. “We recognize it’s sparking a lot of passionate dialogue — at the same time, it’s getting people to stop and think about what it means to be our best selves, which is the point of the spot,” said Pankaj Bhalla, Gillette brand director for North America.

P&G shares were up slightly early Tuesday.

I didn't include the stock news to prove that it's been positive for the company. The massive amounts of publicity are what make it positive. If this "movement" had any real chance of counteracting the positive effect of this publicity, then the tone of that article would be completely different.
