He refrained from posting her name online, instead referencing 'Dear Influencer' and she outed herself then claimed bullying and harassment. That's special.

She is. I also found it hilarious that they had many more social media followers than she did. That would have been a big slap in the face for this "social media influencer" who rates her fame on follower numbers.

" Sounds like she's the harassing bully"

FTFY: Sound like she is harassing the person who declined to give her 'freebies'. She is the bully.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's what they said like one comment up.

Sounds like she's the harassing bully.

Got your back friend.

She saw an opportunity for self promotion and took it. Any attention is worth it to her..

[–]BodrickTheBrave1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

To be fair his response was being a dick. Pretending like he doesn't understand how promoting a business can be good for it. Not every exchange needs to be profitable for it to make sense for the business.

Plus all she did was ask, all he had to say was "no".

[–]bigfatmunter 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's the "P.S The answer is no." that makes it. What a complete cuntsack this guy is.

“Last year I worked with Universal Orlando Florida, and it’s been amazing for them” I’m sure her blog alone had a MAJOR influence on a company that raked in $4.4 billion last year. This is some seriously entitled BS.

“Ms Darby also claimed... the response was ‘hindering the younger generation from doing what they enjoy’.” What’s that, getting something for nothing? The most expensive rate I could find for the duration was $179. If she can’t afford that with her income, maybe she should adjust her lifestyle to meet her income. But I’m over 30, so what do I know?

[–]Powdershuttle 604 points605 points606 points 8 years ago (40 children) | Copy Link

[–]fatalcharm 32 points33 points34 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I couldn't tell if she was in her 20's or 40's. Cosmetic surgery sometimes does that, it makes older women look younger and younger women look like they're older women, trying to look young.

[–]Powdershuttle 16 points17 points18 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I never thought about that. Also adds to the uncanny valley uneasiness I already feel when I see some over done women.

My pot addiction makes me feel good. Anyone who tries to tell me I should quit or cut down should fuck right off, right? No...sometimes we need other people to tell us when we are being stupid. Do you think she looks better? I doubt it. I can almost guarantee you she will have major regrets about trading her real physical beauty to be a superficial barbie caricature down the line. Nobody wants to shatter her world, even if the damage has already been done.

[–]antariusz 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Do you tell this same thing to an anorexic teenager? What about a “transgender” 8 year old.

What about the 5’2” 400lb clearly unhealthy person. Sure, they feel good about consuming 5,000 calories a day, everyone feels good eating high caloric, sugary food.

I love progress pics subs, people that alter their body so that they are better looking, and healthier and happier is great.

But sometimes you have to be objective and say, damn, she fucked up. Even if the truth hurts feelings.

[–]Powdershuttle 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

The problem in my opinion, is more men are not honest about something like that. They only are worrying about trying to sleep with them. They don’t say Babe, you look like a wasp stung your lip. So this problem goes marching on. The worst is over doing a face lift. The mouth stretched out and you look like an attack on titan monster.

[–][deleted] 52 points53 points54 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Men are completely honest in telling women they prefer them without makeup. But have you ever tried to tell a woman that? They will layer abuse on you with a trowel. “I don’t do it for men”, “nobody cares what you think”, “like you know anything about make up” etc.

Most men try it once when they are younger, then never tell a woman she is prettier without smearing crap all over her face again.

This is 100% women’s fault. Yes she looks like a badly made sex doll. Yes, she is completely responsible for that.

[–]300C 32 points33 points34 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is 100% the women’s fault. Yes she looks like a badly made sex doll. Yes, she is completely responsible for that.

Fucking brutal. She went from a naturally beautiful girl who many men would, dare I say, desire a relationship with, to a cheap plastic fuck toy.

That’s for the DURATION she was requesting, not per night. There’s also a “Guest House” available (no rate listed), which I wonder if she was angling for. Because no self respecting vlogger would lower themselves to stay in a paltry hotel room when a guest house is available.

[–]Blesbok 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

“Ms Darby also claimed... the response was ‘hindering the younger generation from doing what they enjoy’.”

The younger generation have this "we own the world" attitude, when in reality, most are nothing more than stains in time that will be forgotten.

Youtube "vloggers" are so short lived, isntagram "stars" are so short lived because there are a million of them, people just move on to the next...

Its also known, Instagram and shit has "purchasable" followers, so follower count actually doesn't mean shit anymore these days, at least to me.

Reality check for this "posh" slag.

[–]d9mtr9yourmajesty 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

What is this from?

[–]SongForPenny 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Rodgers & Hammerstein's film adaptation of the play "Flower Drum Song."

I don't even like musicals much, but I adore this one. It's lively, funny, beautiful, and fast paced. It has several amazing stories woven together into a small community.

The author of the original book was C Y Lee, himself a Chinese immigrant. It is an examination of the differences of generations, but shown through the lens of the immigrant experience.

Most of the film focuses on the struggles between the old generation (in their 60s and 70s) and the middle generation (in their 20s and 30s), but this is an adorable scene where the youngest generation shines the most.

It stars Academy Award winner Miyoshi Umeki, possibly the most lovely woman to ever live. If you're old enough, you'll know her as the maid, Mrs. Livingston, from TV's "The Courtship Of Eddie's Father." She is what the industry calls "A triple thereat" - an extremely accomplished actor, singer, and dancer. If you look up old interviews with her from the 1960s (YouTube), you'll note that she was an witty, sweet, and adorable person.

To see her really "being herself" go to 16:45 in this video where she appears as the "mystery guest" on an old show called "What's My Line." This was shortly after she became the first Asian to win an Academy Award, so she was red-hot famous at he time. She is unfortunately limited to yes/no answers due to the show's format.

Here's Miyoshi Umeki during the slow beginning of the film, singing the song 100 Million Miracles. Whenever I re-watch it, I literally cry at about 01:45, when her voice cracks as she embarrassedly pleads that even if her song is not good to please "give me a little applause, too." She's just so wonderful.

It also stars Jack Soo, whose name was originally Jack Suzuki. It was his first time acting. He later starred in TV's smash hit comedy cop series "Barney Miller." Soo worked as a bouncer at a burlesque club when he was discovered working there and offered the part. He was told "We know you are Japanese, but you are just what we are looking for - we should mention that the part is to play the role of a Chinese man." Soo, for some reason, went into euphoria at the offer, and had his own name legally changed to sound more Chinese. A completely unnecessary move.

[–]Myfeelingsarehurt 72 points73 points74 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The same with the older generation keeping the younger generation from doing what they want statement. No one is keeping you from doing what you want, just like all previous generations actions have consequences. Do what you want, just be prepared for the consequence.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Same goes for "trolliing". It has little meaning now. People use it in the same example above.

[–]Budikah 18 points19 points20 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It's the extension of "he assaulted me" when one person accidentally brushes up against another or bumps into them.

Should have nipped that shit in the bud ages ago.

[–]Gaddness 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

When did this become a thing?

[–]Budikah 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Was pretty popular when I was in grade school. I'm about thirty now for reference.

You'd constantly have kids yapping on about "I'm going to have my parents sue you" or people blowing up on people over what was a trip/fall and a bump on accident into some full blown attack where they dramatically fall over in pain claiming malicious intent.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There is also the modern trend of children calling adults pedophiles when called on doing something wrong.

The first time a kid does that, it should be an immediate six months in JD. Letting kids (especially girls) learn that they can get away with whatever they like by making up sexual assaults is a very dangerous lesson to teach them.

Not to mention I wouldn’t really care about someone’s opinion for getting something for free. Material goods are one thing but even then it’s a huge bias where I can’t trust any of their opinions.

He could’ve refused it in a polite manner it is not uncommon for people to cut such deals citing mutual benefits. If he as a businessman felt that giving her free stay would not actually benefit him (and it most likely wouldn’t), he could say so in a professional and personal manner like she did. So I think what he did was not entirely justified. But what the lady proceeded to do was pathetic. That hurt her ego and so she tried to play then victim and get her fans to turn on the hotelier while getting more views and attention to her channel seeing this as then opportunity that it was. She revealed herself and got bullied for it. Totally her fault in this regard but her simply suggesting a possible collab isn’t wrong in the sense of it.

[–]arerecyclable 46 points47 points48 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

this was the best part to me... the hotel already has more than double the social media outreach that this girl has.

[–]brentwilliams2 -5 points-4 points-3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think it would depend on the situation. If it is a highly targeted group who actively engages with her and also is a coveted group for the business, 87K may be great. If it is fragmented across the world with people only marginally interested, then it might not be worth anything. If she had demographic data showing that her audience was engaged and located in a place that could easily take advantage of a Dublin trip, it might not be that bad. This is especially true if they have excess inventory. They are already paying the housekeeping staff, so an additional guest would add almost zero cost I would imagine.

(Note, I didn't even read her follow-up - I'm just talking about the general idea of having a "social media influencer" stay at a place.)

In the last week, there were news articles about Paul Logan and a Taiwanese streamer. The latter was more interesting to me because the dude basically littered, then got harassed off of social media and apparently left the country not long after.

As an artist, people asking for free stuff is really fucking normal. I've been asked and see others asked by people who own their own business and understand there's a cost for time and labor but don't feel like artists should be paid a livable wage for their work.

Honestly, vlogger advertising is not a bad idea, it really comes down to if your demographics match

"well, you'll get exposure" yeah, I know that line. Exposure don't put food on the table or pay rent. Offering "exposure" is one of the most demeaning things a person can offer an artist or musician.

If you are a real "influencer", they will come to you. This is a big rule in social media marketing, companies go online and look for influencers that are interesting to them, this girl in the video does not talk about traveling or hotels so its not interesting. I am sure the hotel has given free rooms to many influencers like Lonely Planet and stuff.

[–]smacksaw 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]paxtana 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

My company builds high end electric bicycles and we usually get at least one email every month from these sort of people, asking for a free bike that costs thousands of dollars.

They always call themselves "verified social media influencer" whatever that means, and how awesome it would be for us. I have to keep telling these people our biggest issue is just keeping up with demand, not marketing.

The biggest request was from the production crew of Ellen, asking for a bike for each member of the audience in exchange for a mention on her show. Must have been out of their mind if they thought we were going to give away over a quarter million dollars of ebikes.

[–]DerTrickIstZuAtmen 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's for the exposure!

[–]fatalcharm 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I am an influencer and blogger, obviously no where near as popular as this girl (although I have never heard of her, there are a lot of influencers out there) and it's not a full-time job but I occasionally get paid to mention brands in my posts and get sent free stuff to try and review. There is absolutely no need to approach businesses, asking for free stuff. That's embarrassing. There are plenty of programs that you can join where businesses/brands, looking for promotion, approach you or if you leave your contact details in your social media profiles, they will approach you. I'm surprised by the nerve of this woman, approaching businesses and asking for free stuff.

I am just saying this because influencers like her give the rest of us a bad name. For some of us, it's just a hobby that earns some extra money. If you have a lot of followers and a brand approaches you, asking if you want a freebie in exchange for a review or they will pay you to mention their brand, why not accept it? You are getting a freebie or money in exchange for very little work.

Having said that, I think this woman's ego has gotten out of control.

[–]Ninganah 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Why would you even call yourself an influencer? Why not just a blogger or social media personality? It sounds stuck up, especially if you're not even well known or don't have a big presence online.

[–]fatalcharm 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well, the term 'influencer' is the term for people who do what I do. Not that I would call it a job, but it's like a job title. When people contact me for jobs/gigs, they say "we are looking for influencers" -I didn't come up with the term myself. It is just the term that is used. If the standard term was "shnoodoodles" then I would be calling myself a shnoodoodle instead of influencer.

Technically I am a blogger, but what I mostly do is social media stuff more than blogging, so influencer is a more accurate term for what I do.

As for the term "social media personality" I kinda feel like that is a little pretentious, especially for me. I'm not famous, I don't have a huge amount of followers, just enough to get work as an "influencer" so I just feel really weird calling myself that. I feel like that term should be reserved for more popular people. Just my opinion.

Hope that explains it :)

[–]Ninganah 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Okay that explains it much better, thanks. It's an actual accepted industry term, and not just social media personalities trying to sound like they're changing the hearts and minds of the people. I tend not to pay a lot attention to this subject, so I've never heard it used in this context. I thought when a journalist was calling someone an influencer, they were just trying to describe them while highlighting the fact that they have a heavy social media presence.

I prefer the term Shnoodoodles though.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Some of them have enough influence that it’s worth it. Here it isn’t, because this girl is reaching out to a brand with more than double her amount of her influence. But imagine if you had a random online sunglasses company that pretty much no one had heard of. It could definitely be a good idea for you to send a free pair to someone like Carli Bybel (who has millions of subscribers) because her followers might come to your page.

[–]giveusyourlighter 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's advertising. If she can drive valuable traffic to a business they might be interested in giving her something in exchange.

Though the content these influencers produce is usually horrible I still think it's kind of inspirational what heights they can rise to without having to climb some corporate ladder.

This lends credence to my suspicion that this was planned between the two of them. He has a track record of using "no such thing as bad publicity" tactics, and she sounds like a caricature of young, vapid and entitled. This will ultimately probably increase her following and win him more guests at his hotel.

[–]Ninganah 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I severely doubt she'd ever hurt her """brand""" like that. She gets literally nothing out of this. It's more likely that he saw her email, and knowing what a bit of controversy can do to his bottom line, intentionally tried to put her on blast in the hopes that she would respond. She fell right into his trap.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

required gluten intolerant people to bring in doctors notes.

Wow, what a dick move. Around 1% of people get celiac disease each year due to gluten intolerance. It's a serious ailment that will lead to nutrient malabsorpion and in many cases to death before or shortly after diagnosis. It's not simply a fashionable lifestyle choice for a lot of people. Did he also ban wheelchair users? What about people with AIDS? Maybe type 1 diabetics, who ask for nutritional information?

I'm sure he's got publicity for that. But goddamn, what an asshole.

[–]MrPaineUTI 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Out of context, yes I agree. Proper dick move. But in the context of the situation (a bit of googling could bring you up to speed), as well as the application of a sense of humour its really not that bad.

Lazy eye surgery aside, I do think it's relevant to bring up her cosmetic surgery as it pertains to her "social influence". She boasts constantly of her young age being "a poor 22 year old girl being harrassed by 30 year old men" while basically promoting plastic surgery to her young audience. There's no talk of whether or not it's right for girls her age to get cosmetic surgery, she just goes out and does it. Monkey see monkey do. Is this the sort of message she should be spreading?

[–]goltoof 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The initial comment WAS NOT making fun of her fucked up eyes. "It's not normal to carve your face." was referencing her face.... not her eyes. If someone has a procedure done to fix a deformity that's one thing. Even if someone thinks their nose is messed up or hindering their breathing is another. The fact of the matter is the girl has had multiple surgeries (lips, nose, face filling, etc) while looking back on her videos, other than the cross eyes, she was still a very attractive woman. Now she has a following of other young girls who probably look up to her and see her as a role model. Young audiences are impressionable and see what their idols do as normal or cool. This can be a divisive issue but my stance on it is that it's a fucked up message to normalize plastic surgery to a young audience. The original outrage was over her freeloading for views, but I'm seeing a different issue now. It's not "reaching". It's not uncommon for a person to bring attention to themselves for one reason and people start calling them out for something else more or less controversial.

"Not looking human" doesn't necessarily mean her eyes. Ok, maybe he did, maybe not. I assumed that he was referencing her cosmetic surgery, you assumed he was referencing her eyes. Do either of us know 100% what he meant? And she doesn't need to "promote" directly what she's having done, young audiences just see their idol doing something and then might consider it themselves. She's talks about lip and face fillers the same way she does getting a new pair of shoes. You stand by your comment, I stand by mine. We can keep going but I'd rather move on. Have a great day!

That surgery does not involve cutting into your skin. It's an eye surgery. Those lips are also not relevant to eye surgery and seem unnatural.

I'm allowed to have the opinion that it requires some sort of mental disorder to want to cut up your face at a young age.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, it's her personality that makes her a slag!

[–]antariusz 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I didn’t even notice her eyes. It’s her jaw/nose/lips/cheeks that look unnatural and uncanny valley. I didn’t even look at her eyes. The rest of her face was so hideous from the plastic surgery that I didn’t need to go into the individual depth about looking at each of her facial features.

Which is a shame. Someone else posted a video of her before, she used to be hot.

Oh well, the external will always eventually mirror the internal.

She was pretty outside, but ugly on the inside, so now she has altered her external appearance to match what her internal mental state is.

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points22 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Did she demand those lips for free too? That isn’t a job someone would pay for.

These 'influencers' are creepy. Regardless of gender.

My gf watches a lot of them and 9/10 of them are very self entitled as well as delusional about their job (they're human billboards with no life). They're copy and paste in most cases and their 10:01 daily uploads consist of them spending crazy amounts of money and somehow doing very little of note.

The internet influencer should be something we push against but vlogging is happily accepted.

[–]violetdaze 30 points31 points32 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

..but.. but it's her business!!! /s

"I feel disgusting having to say this. As a 22-year-old girl, who's running her own business from her home, I don't feel like I did anything wrong,' she said"

What a fucking twat.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Also 22 is far too old to be describing yourself as a 'girl'. It hardly portrays the 'businesswoman' image, does it?

[–]violetdaze 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are correct. It does not.

[–]Iz__Poss 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

True but it's people like your girlfriend who ultimately prop them up

[–]Denadaguapa 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fortunately for me the only kinds of vlogs my girlfriend watches are pretty humble ones, straight to the point “ok guys I got this brand make up and this brand eyeliner and this is how I feel about it the end”

[–]Taiwaly 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How do you feel about her watching those YouTubers? Are you worried about sympathetic mirroring? My nephew watched some pretty unwholesome characters on YouTube and I wonder if that will influence him

[–]tommygunner91 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's aware of them. She mainly watches smaller youtubers whom you can tell are just doing it as they enjoy it. She sees straight through the larger or more well known ones.

She didn't at first though until I explained so many of them are basically the same and are signed up to agencies who get a cut of their ad revenue/book deals/make up lines etc etc

I'm sure many of them are very genuinely nice people but the way youtube has them utilised is unreal.

Because no one is interested in sleeping within a 100 square mile radius of this silicone injected beast yet she thought she could get a free stay based on the fact that she has fake lips and a fake 'large' following. A large following that would have never stayed in the hotel to begin with. All publicity is good publicity. She's entitled to nothing and rejecting her request only makes the owners look like genuine people. Someone we can relate with. Had they accepted her request you would have never heard of her nor the hotel.

TL;DR She doesn't deserve anything and the owners get more publicity rejecting.

This whole thing kind of proves he knows exactly how social.media works. He's getting tons of free exposure without having to waste a room or a second of his employees time. Anrandom blogger no one has ever heard of is going to barely make a blip on the radar. Getting into all these news papers and hitting Reddit can be a measurable upswing.

[–]unsavvylady 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sounds like she is giving them some free publicity even if they aren’t letting her stay. She just wants the attention. She outed herself as the blogger after all.

[–]Brohammer53 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Besides everything else, the email itself, in my opinion, was perfectly fine. She was polite enough, but obviously didn't realize that the hotel had a bigger platform than herself and didn't need promotion. Like yeah the owner can be a dick about it, whatever, free speech, but I would have just said "no", and been done with it.

[–]dovidiela 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Influencer" (see: girl that attracts the desire of males who would happily have sex with her by being sexually titillating online.)

[–]RandyBoBandy33 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's an entitled brat with a worthless blog that she's clearly not qualified to run. That being said, I don't see her simply asking for a free pass as reason enough to publicize and rant. There is a dollar value to advertising. She just grossly overestimated the value of the "service" she'd provide in return for the stay. Would there have been an uproar if she had asked for a more reasonable amount, say, 15% off?

[+]Scojo91 -26 points-25 points-24 points 8 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

[+]IKnowVeryMuch -21 points-20 points-19 points 8 years ago* (9 children) | Copy Link

I wanted to get my pitchfork out but now hold on a minute.

Owner Paul Stenson poured scorn on the request and posted the email online

That was the hotel owner doing it. Yeah she may be entitled, but that's unprofessional and just... weird to blast that out into the internet because someone offered you a marketing deal.

Would the hotel make more from her advertising than it would cost to put her up? Maybe, maybe not. But posting that email online was just a plain weirdo move.

If I were running a youtube channel for (let's just say) mobile phones, Samsung wouldn't post my email requesting one of their products in exchange for a review, saying how entitled I was and whatever other nonsense. They would just email me back.

This really isn't /r/pussypassdenied, this is just people bitter about social media "influencers".

Yep. These types of "give me free stuff and I'll promote you" are commonplace in the vlogger community, it's how they make extra money. Whats wrong with complaining about how she was dealt with?

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points-2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I don't really get the hate people have here over this. I mean, I think her asking for a free stay just because she has a modest social media presence is a bit rich, but nothing ventured nothing gained, right? Don't really understand why the owner felt the need to blast her like that. A simple and polite no thanks would have been more than sufficient. I think the owner comes across as a huge dick for lambasting someone who reached out to him with what she thought would be a mutually beneficial exchange, even if he disagreed.

[+]trustworthysauce -10 points-9 points-8 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Eh. I'm with her on this one. You can ask for whatever you want, it doesn't mean the business should be expected to take you up on it. I'm guessing she sent a similar message to all of the hotels in the are hoping that someone would take her up on it, and if they had extra rooms available, I'm sure some of them would consider it.

On the other hand belittling someone and ridiculing them to this extent seems simply for proposing a business arrangement seems to be an unnecessary escalation. Just say "no" and move on.

[–]CornPlanter -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

... she's 22, not 16.. she's too old to be gaining sympathy like that. on one hand she's an independent business owner who deserves free accommodation due to her social media influence... on the other, she's just a 22-year-old girl, how could they bully her??? (after she outed herself as the 'influencer' featured in the hotel's post.)

classic ppd.

What was clearly gay was starting a fag war with twitter girl.

really dude? the guy called out an entitled girl.. how does that make him gay?

[–]mirinfashion 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

he vlogger's request wasn't rude, arrogant, or pretentious.

Did you even bother reading what she wrote? She made a comment that she did it a year ago with Universal Orlando in Florida and, "it's been amazing for THEM." You think this individual had that much impact because she wrote something on her blog about Universal Orlando (which if you didn't know, is a popular theme park)?

[+]HandsomeFabio -91 points-90 points-89 points 8 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

I'm thinking she's not actually the asshole in this situation, in reality all she did was ask for a free stay in return for promoting the hotel. Her email didn't come across as entitled, just trying her luck. I don't think there was a need to make it public tbf

[–]furchfur[S] 74 points75 points76 points 8 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link

She made it public not the hotel. He blanked out her name and address on facebook. She could have and should have kept quiet!

[–]Amazing_Poopstick 37 points38 points39 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

How can she keep quite? That person dared to tell her no and didn’t give her what she wanted. That’s pretty abusive, image the stress the poor thing has gone through. She probably hasn’t even been able to shop! I bet she has PTSD now.

Also, her boyfriend... one lucky guy! Am I right or what fellas?

Her: I'm hot shit and gonna get free stuff

Him: I don't need you to give me PR, I'll just use your letter and make my own PR

Her: I'm a victim and I'm gonna virtue signal

Internet: Fuck off

I could be wrong but the article says the hotel took it to Facebook after her email ?

[–]furchfur[S] 35 points36 points37 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

With the name and address redacted. The silly cow volunteered the information.

[–]bigfatmunter -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Making it public isn't really the issue, it's the fact that he posted such a cunty, obnoxious, self righteous wall of text in the first place.

[–]Skullpuck 30 points31 points32 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The hotel did post the email but did not identify her. She outed herself.

Also, trying her luck? You don't ask for free shit when you're trying to promote something. You pay for a room and then casually mention you are a blogger and offer to promote their hotel. Famous people have to pay to stay even if they talk about it on social media. Why should she get it for free?

[–]DerTrickIstZuAtmen 21 points22 points23 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why she should get it for free, you ask? Because:

'As a 22-year-old girl, who's running her own business from her home'

and

'all 30 years plus people internet bullying a 22-year-old girl who is just trying to run her own business and raise awareness of what appeared to be a stunning Dublin hotel.'

She infantilizes herself here, trying to get sympathy.

[–]Gaary 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mean it is kind of rude to ask for free accommodation during a holiday for such a small amount of advertising. If this was a new hote or they were struggling that’d be one thing. But she basically confirms his advertising is working GREAT and then offers next to nothing for something that would cost a decent amount of money (I’m assuming it’s not cheap).

[–]Iz__Poss 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It might be a bit of both. The hotel owner is becoming somewhat renowned in Ireland for courting controversy on certain hot topic issues. So you could say the hotel are more adept at social media than this "influencer"

Mr Stenson has previously provoked controversy by threatening to “shoot” vegans and suggesting people not willing to pay inflated rates for a hotel during the high season should stay in a homeless hostel or dog kennel.

Sounds like the vlogger got off easy...

[–]RedxEyez -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Idk, not knowing anything about this except for I read in the article. The person running the hotel seems like a dick. Her email was quite professional even though she was asking for may not have any monetary gain for the hotel. They could have at least responded to her professionally instead of trying to shame her for asking to basically just barter with them. And she didn't use her name and her email why did the hotel respond but I just called her and influencer like she didn't use her name before calling herself an influencer. And to respond by all out perma banning evereve vlogger, really? fuck that hotel. All he had to do was simply respond note to her and that would have been the end of it but he did decide to end up bullying and harassing posting it to social sites.

[–]Fireche -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I agree. He really just tries to make fun of her. It's so normal to ask for free stuff in exchange for exposure. Exposure can be a huge boost.

[–]RedxEyez -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It can be a huge boost for the companies that need it. His hotel clearly didn't need the help so he ceased the opportunity to just shit on her instead of just saying no. I know now thats a hotel Ill always avoid.

This is another one of those "everyone involved is a cunt" sort of thing!

[+]douchebaghater -47 points-46 points-45 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

From a marketing view what she did is perfectly acceptable as is his lack of interest but gosh, he sure could have been more civil in his response. As for 'who is going to pay for (the staff)' he was simply an ass. It's called 'overhead' and 'advertising'. For a one or two day stay the 'extra' cost is minuscule - not even pocket change - in extra cost. In a perfect world it would have been covered by additional business. After reading the back-and-forth they both sound like jerks.

TBH I'm on her side on this one. Sure, her request for a potentially mutually beneficial trade of services was laughable, but the hotel did not have to douche-nozzles about it, a simple "no" would have been quite sufficient.

[–]Deranged40Chewbacca is my lover 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Hotel didn't name her. She did that.

[+]sharkdog73 -6 points-5 points-4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

True, but the email they sent her with the insulting comments was way beyond professional. I don't blame her for letting people know what the owners of that business are like. It's no different than you or I calling out a shitty business, she just has more people who listen to her.

[–]Deranged40Chewbacca is my lover 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Okay. But, tbh, I kinda want to stay at that specific hotel now. Advertising works both ways. I'm not sure what exact measure of "professional" you're working with, but I personally love the way they handled this one.

Was it unprofessional to ask who was going to pay their overhead if they offer her a free room?

she just has more people who listen to her.

Actually, as the article clearly pointed out, she's not the one spreading the awareness here, as she has approximately half as many people listening to her than they have listening to them. That's right. These 30+ yr old business owners who have no clue how social media works have approximately double the social media influence as she does (without her help)--and it's because of how much of an asshole they are. That's kind of their thing, and it seems to be working very well.

She claims that her job is as a social media influencer, but she didn't even take the time to look up who she was trying to con out of free shit? How did she not know that this company had nearly double the audience as she does? That's her job.
