Feminists came up with this delusion of male oppression of women, and wrongfully projected it onto every aspect of society, but it's not feminism's fault if this projection and subsequent male vilification appears to be hostile to women, they just want to help. Sigh. Feminism is like a religion... convince men that they should feel infinitely guilty about being male and convince women that there's a big bad devil out there that's out to get them, and then convince them that feminism is the answer to all their guilt, fears and insecurities.

That pretty much swings both ways.

It's patriarchy that says men can't stop themselves from harassing and assaulting. Therefore, claiming that owning a penis in the vicinity of a woman late at night is assault is a patriarchal act.

If you approach feminism with an "Us vs. Them" mentality, then the logic of this quote can seem a bit far-fetched; however, if you approach the idea with the mindset of wanting gender equality, then yes, "Patriarchy" is responsible for the oppression of men as well as women. The problem, I feel, is in the connotations of the terms "Patriarchy" and "Feminism."

If the term "Patriarchy" were replaced by the more inclusive term "Kyriarchy," and the term "Feminism" were replaced by "Gender Equality, or Egalitarian," then I feel the quote would resonate with a large majority of people across the aisles.

This is true feminism, and I completely support it. Genders should be equal, the patriarchy exists, and it effects men and women in different ways. Mens liberation should be equally as valid as female equality. We shouldn't be tied down by societies perception of man. This may not be popular, and I support mens rights vehermently, but this type of feminism is the way to go.

Sorry but a bunch of stupid, monolithic, unchanging and incapable men who have animalistic instincts could not plan "all the social mechanisms that reproduce and exert male dominance over women" (wikipedia definition of patriarchy... that one is actually relatively mild).

Theoretically, it's correct.

"Patriarchy" is just as oppressive to men as it is to women. It's just as restrictive to a non-macho guys as it can be to women.

Just ask any gay man how well his "male privilege" has worked out for him growing up in high school as they were getting the shit kicked out of them by bullies.

But feminism denies that men are really ever victims to a considerable amount. Sure, you'll get the feminist who says men occasionally are victims, but not to a great enough degree to do anything about it.

EDIT: It seems I have made too much of a generalization, and for that, I apologize. There are many feminists who do care about men's rights, and the movement is not entirely composed of the people I mentioned above. But it's clear that men's issues are barely even understood in society compared to women's issues, and that's the point I wanted to get across.

I would replace 'patriarchy' with 'hegemonic masculinity', personally. And that some strands of feminism believe men can be "more", although "more" is a problematic word here, propping up those old standards as a validated hierarchical norm. (Which strand really depends on whether you're referencing more essentialist/modernist feminist groups, or more post-modernist feminist groups, both of which have very different theories on feminism)

It's feminism that says that men can only be attracted by certain qualities, can only have particular kinds of responses, can only experience the world in narrow ways.

Feminism holds that men are all these things, that they are patriarchs, and that patriarchy exists in the West. MensRights holds that any asshole telling men they are all these things is a sexist piece of shit, who seriously need to examine reality, a reality in which the vast majority of the homeless, suicide victims, deaths by unnatural causes, majority of drug addicts, people who die young, high school dropouts, illiterates, and mentally disabled are MEN.
