Something about this seems seriously fucked up. I mean fuck abusive guys/boyfriends/husbands but this was an ex and appears pre-meditated because she tied him up for a few hours, stabbed him a bit, mutilated a bit, and then flushed the penis before the paramedics arrived and he died.

If this was a man, murdering his ex-girlfriend, with a judge of either gender, what would happen? very awful, but she was sentenced to over 6 years of prison. It should be a life sentence or whatever is the harshest penalty for murder because her "mental impairment" statement is absurd.

If a man killed a woman because he feared that she would control him by getting pregnant, no one would even consider that some people think he's a nice guy, and he probably wouldn't murder again.

The harshest possible sentence would ensure that society's only sanctioned behaviour when you are concerned about abuse or control is to leave, and stop associating with that person. Torture and mutilation murders should not result in compassionate acceptance of the excuses for them.

If the roles were reversed and he was the one who tied her up. If he only and i mean ONLY lets say a minor cut and or stab anywhere on her body (not mortal). Here are the charges that ensue...Kidnapping, premeditated attempted murder, attempted rape, and A&B w/ intent to cause bodily harm. In today's society it is at a point where (i guess i wont speak for everyone but at least in America) there seems to be a huge bias when i comes to upholding the law.

The article states that the offense was probably related to her depressive illness, and then later goes on to say that she got of lightly, because factors were taken into account such as her being unlikely to re-offend.

If she has a mental issue that can cause her to become this violent, isn't she extremely likely to re-offend?

Title is a little misleading, the one interesting quote I see is

The judge took into account Chen's early guilty plea, her prior good character, her remorse and the unlikelihood that she will re-offend.

I feel someone with this amount of delusion is very likely to reoffend but I highly doubt I know more than a judge. I also know nothing of the Australian legal system but I'm thinking all the Aussies are gong to be sleeping as right now it is 3:45 am in Sydney.

On an i guess lighter note. (lighter because this really happened and what I'm about to say is fake) My mom used to watch the "lifetime" notwork. She used to call it "bitch tv" only for the shows that have the typical "motivated women who wants it all" where in most of these they have the female character who is gorgeous who has the typical husband or boyfriend who they eventually cheat on with 1-10 partners and get sick of there "significant other" and somehow barter a way to get them killed by one of partners and they follow through and get away with huge benefit... so i asked my mom why that is so awesome and kinda needled her and convinced her that it is not okay to entertained by that. If the gender roles were reversed, people would have a problem with that program and needless to say after convincing her that those shows were rather disgusting on how men are portrayed. She now watches "id" because they have actual real life cases on how that situation goes both ways (men killing women... and women killing men) and thinks "lifetime" is stupid

Don't get me wrong, I am just as outraged as the rest of you but to me it just seems that there is a widespread misuse of the manslaughter charge to get easy convictions ( by the prosecution ) or lighter sentences ( by the defendant) . Here and here men getting comparable sentences ( 8yrs, 6yrs non parole in one and 4yrs non parole in the other ) for killing women.

Having said that , neither crime was as dreadful as this one and I think the judge in this case should be terminated or reprimanded and the sentence appealed by the prosecution. Australian justice is just flawed , like so many other things in Australia at the moment.

I am Australian by the way , a man and a zealous MRA.

How can this not be seen as evidence of pre-mediatation, a crime of passion (manslaughter) is not considered over hours it is by its nature the opposite.

Back in September of last year, I was assaulted by a woman for an extended period. At the point I decided to defend myself, she went to the police and wrote a completely falsified police report.

Despite mountains of evidence supporting my side and none supporting hers, I was arrested, taken to jail, and later bailed out for $3500, and am currently facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony crime that could have me in prison for 20 years and ruin any chances of a normal life afterwards.

Yeah, because the court decided she was insane at the time. I don't know what evidence the court considered to reach this decision. Do you? If you don't, are you just comfortable assuming that conclusion was wrong? I don't know how the law in Australia works, but in the U.S., if you get found not culpable by reason of insanity, you don't do time at all. Mental health hospital, and that's it. So, you're all up in arms over a result that sounds totally reasonable once you RTFA and set your bias aside.

This means she will be in prison at least 3yrs 9months.

...she will be eligible for parole in November 2014.

The words above do not mean released, it means you go before the parole board and they decide if you will be released. Just like Charles Manson goes before the board.
