Basically-- Pascal's wager is where you should rationally decide to believe in God because there's infinite gains if you're right and and infinite downsides if you're wrong.

I want to preface this by saying even recognizing Pascal's wager, I'm an agnostic, just as I don't believe AWALT-- but it's a very interesting parallel.

What is acceptable risk to take when dating? The upside & rewards are quite clear- happy family, children, constant great sex, dual income, a life partner to share dreams and successes with.

The risks are quite muddied. For a woman, this could include pregnancy, both genders it includes STDs, and more rarely scams/theft or violence. For both genders, there is the risk of being heartbroken, cheated on, or dumped. Financial risk is skewed towards the man, sexual risk is skewed towards the woman.

Here's the crux of the issue: reducing risks will also reduce your chance of the optimal outcome. If you're FDS and you select for men willing to wait for sex, you're selecting for TradCons or simps. If you're RP and follow those guidelines, you select for Borderline women.

There's an optimal mix of risk and reward out there. Based on each individual's risk tolerance and value they ascribe to the reward. What is the optimal mix, on average, for each gender?
