I was not generally against the concept of women proposing. But last night I was watching Bling Empire and Cherie proposing to her baby daddy made me sad. Settling so hard. It's literally all she wanted from him, it's so important to her, and he just completely dropped the ball. It pains me to remember and admit but I did this. I am so ashamed I still CRINGE. I didn't get on my knees but I asked my ex to marry me because I believed in equal mumbo jumbo. I wanted to be different than my pickme mother. He accepted and even bragged about it but over the time I realised that it was not my role to lead although he happily let me. He never took the lead in anything leaving me with the emotional burden of doing everything. I was always walking on egshells and started acting a certain way so he would feel like some situation was his idea so he wouldn't feel emasculated (he never said it in words and proclaimed himself "modern" but I sensed it). Putting aside the love bombing and gaslighting (I wasn't even aware of how he manipulated me), over time he grew contempt with his life, always blaming me that it was my fault for that of that. After I broke up with him, his sister summarised rather well our problem: he never gave me stability. I was so angry and ashamed that I didn't recognise I was a pickme too.

It is not a woman's job to lead or offer stability.
