You’ve never heard of the Duluth model have you? The police will in many jurisdictions remove you from your own apartment even if she’s violent to you, regardless of how much evidence you can show. There is an episode of cops where a man called 911 because his gf was attacking him with a knife in his house. When the cops got there he had locked himself in his room. A related personal story of mine. When I was 14 I was spending the weekend with one of my older brothers. One night his gf started an argument with him. At no point did he even raise his voice at her. At one point he walked away to go to the bedroom and she bashed him in the back of the head with a phone (this was the 90s and it was a landline). The phone broke and he was bleeding from the back of his head. A neighbor called the cops. When the cops get there I explained what happen and so did my brother. She claimed he punched her in the face. My brother was 180lbs and an amateur boxer yet the cops believed her despite not a single mark on her. He was arrested. Later it all got dropped. That was the day I took the position that I will never automatically believe a woman about abuse. She needs to have some solid proof 1st.

Well the marriage definitely did not start out that way. I grew up in an IR family so I was accustomed to seeing crap coming from all sides. So, when her family weren’t thrilled about us but I dealt with it. In time, those comments started coming out and then eventually the kids were exposed to it. Ironically the marriage ended when I discovered her cheating on me with…drum roll…..an “evil white man”. We had joint custody of the kids but due to my job I traveled a lot so she had primary custody. I was very involved with my kids lives. If I wasn’t working I was with them always. As they got older things shifted with how they viewed me, their grandparents, and uncle/aunts. As I said my family is IR so they considered some family members as good and other not. My oldest grew out of that mindset and we talk now, but my youngest still has no contact with me. In time maybe that will change with maturity and life experience.

Sorry I should have written it out. IR stands for Interracial. I’m white along with three other siblings. My mom divorced, got remarried, and had my two other siblings who are both half black/white. The man who raised me since I was a toddler is black and I considered him my real father. He has always been there and I would do anything for that man. I’m a woman and I always find a way to filter what I’m saying when talking about men. Sure, you have to be cautious when being out at night and going to clubs by all men, you’ve caught on to the fact the majority of men view women a specific way and it’s more likely for a man to harm a woman. You do things and say things to keep yourself safe by saying “all men” which makes perfect sense.
The thing is though, it’s not all men. And him being your boyfriend could be the reason why it caused him more irritation, because well, he’s a man in your life whom you’re supposed to love and not hate.
Maybe try explaining your perspective to him so he can understand, or specifically just rephrase your words by saying “the majority of men.”

We do still have to generalize in some way to keep ourselves safe. Still, whenever I go out I’m always told to be safe. If I get a flat tire, I’m told to not get out of my car and just call someone and wait. I’m told that when a police puts their lights on, I should drive to a public area before pulling over. I’m told to be cautious of my drinks in a public sitting. I’m told to trust the people I’m around before I have any type of fun (drinking, smoking, etc). Because it is going to be likely for something to happen to a woman.
You are right. It isn’t all/the majority of men, but we have to react to situations like it is because something could happen at any given moment.

Your logic doesn’t make sense if the roles are reversed. Colored people have to watch out for white people, but it’s not racism, it’s for their safety. They know how messed up the system is. They have to maneuver around certain problems that a white person could bypass so easily.

You act like because things are being talked about and are more normalized that the problems are completely gone. Womens rights, lgbtq rights, blm, all of it was made because the system sucks.
Women have to imagine it’s all men to keep themselves safe and you aren’t willing to understand that. This has been happening for centuries. Women being held captive, women being kidnapped, women being spiked, women being abused, killed and much more.
I don’t know why you think it’s so wrong when it’s common sense. I never once said to discriminate all men. I never once said it’s okay for women to abuse men. All I said was the reason we do these things is because it’s so normal for bad things to happen.
