From my experiences talking with men most don't even know what constitutes sexual assault until you explain it in terms they understand. Like the drunk lady coming up in a bar and trying to grab your junk and or kiss you. Men normally laugh off stuff like that and don't ever think about it again.

We had a training class here at work. I got in trouble for pointing out that the info was heavily feminist in nature and in every single representation it was a male doing something to a female.

In a supposedly loving relationship I was in before it turned sour, after I had ignored red flags, we were in bed having sex. She shoved her fingers up my ass penetrating me without asking or knowing if I would want that. It hurt and I pushed her off and was like wtf do not do that.

It was immediately different and after a week I began hearing rumors that I was trying to solicit the girl that assaulted me while on a date, that she had to slap me?? and push me away. My date drifted away from me after that in the typical ways. The few times we crossed paths after that she couldn’t even look up at me.

Being assaulted as a man hurt my reputation and I was a pariah for the rest of that school year from the allegations against me.

I have a friend who woke up to find a one night stand going to town on him, for her own pleasure. He didn't see that as rape (which it must have been if he was asleep and she couldn't even ask for consent). He just joined in and enjoyed it. Still talks about it positively.

For years I thought that I had never experienced sexual assault (or physical assault) at the hands of a woman.

It literally took a feminist berating & lecturing me about my assumed "male privilege" to make me realize I had experienced the EXACT same things she whined about & called "patriarchal oppression" when it's done to women.

As in: she asked me if I had ever been sexually assaulted, my gut reaction was "no" & she used that to argue: "see??? that's your male privilege... meanwhile, I've had guys come up to me in clubs & kiss me without consent. Tons of men have groped me too".

I thought "wait, what? That's it? Oh, in that case I've been sexually assaulted by women several times".

Same with physical assault. For some reason I just assume it's never happened... but then I think about all the times women have slapped, punched, kicked, bitten me. I've had women kick me in the balls so hard I had bruises for weeks, for absolutely no other reason than they thought it would be "funny".

And yet, because these things happened a long time ago, they simply don't cross my mind. It's not something I think about, unless I force myself to.

Men are just innately more stoic & far less likely to even recognize genuine abuse at the hands of a woman. The irony being that if I actually ask my male friends, NOT ONE has never been sexually assaulted or hit/punched by a woman. NOT ONE.

I'm sure basically all women have experienced some type of sexual harassment too... but in regards to physical assault? No. The vast, vast, VAST majority of women have never had a man lay a finger on them & yet they keep complaining how "scared" they are of "male violence". It's such a joke.

I wasn't aware that I had been in an abusive relationship until a year later when I talked about it with a therapist. I was raised to believe that abuse was something men did to women, so clearly it could not be happening to me.

A few years later, talking to another therapist, I realized that what happened to me would have been called rape if it happened to a woman. I still have a hard time admitting to myself that it was rape.

There are a ton of men who have been flat-out raped, and who just think it's "bad sex", who have been physically, verbally, and emotionally abused, and who just think that eh, women are crazy, you just gotta take it on the chin and man up.

Aba and Preach had a video on this 5 years ago about how common female on male violence actually is. They've got a great video on how men's emotions are fetishized and not actually valued. There's a whole series on how sexual assault of males is played for laughs in TV.

There's a fuck ton of men being abused, sexually assaulted, and raped, who don't even know that it is happening to them. If they don't have the words to even understand the experiences happening to them, it's impossible for them to actually call it out and be recognized for it.

While I'm at it, quick reminder that in the US men make up almost half of all rape victims, and almost half of all rapists are women.

I only a few years ago realized with a therapist how heavy my physical abuse was when I was 5 and how often I’ve been SA’d. I think most men are conditioned to ignore the abuse, or are silenced.

In my experience, if a male comes forward (boy or man) about abuse, especially if perpetrated by a female, then the male is blamed, ignored by society, laughed at by the police and legal system, and called a liar by doctors. Literally nobody believes them. How do I know? Years of being raped by a grandmother as a child, happening from two different school faculties (two different schools, and both covered it up), as well as being drugged and waking up with the woman on top, doing what she wanted to with me, as I was being suffocated.

Not one fucking person ever helped me with those issues. In fact people have actively worked against me and retaliated just because I came forward. Society doesn't just disbelieve men, it *will* try to silence them by whatever means. I just happened to survive all the crap and still talk about it (but get plenty of downvotes and shit on social media).

People don't care about men, and men are taught that 1: they don't matter, 2: if they don't work they matter even less, 3: they are "strong" so are responsible for all things which happen to them outside of their control. 4: don't ever ask for help, because you will get the opposite.

TLDR: Men are hated, unvalued, and treated like walking dildos, and that's just how society functions. Either suck it up and keep on existing, or kill yourself. Society will never give a shit either way.

There is an interesting, but extremely controversial dynamic at play here that we may need to explore. Being aware of being sexually assaulted may actually cause more harm than good for victims, and assuming that "it was nothing" or "I wanted this" may actually give men control over the situation in their minds.

This is something that occurs in a lot of women, too. They retroactively get traumatized for something they thought wasn't a big deal, at first, because they read or are told that what was done to them should be traumatizing.

Of course, the inverse happens, too. Being oblivious about it is not a good blanket way of treating something like this. If you get sexually assaulted, you may appear fine on the surface, but there might be a sense of anguish stirring deep inside.

I guess, all I am saying is, we should probably find a balance, e.g. being able to listen and support men who feel like they were sexually wronged, but also not dramatize sexual interactions to a point where men should feel worse about what happened to them while still maintaining that men should have autonomy over their own body.

To be sexually assaulted, you have to be offended by the unwanted sexual contact. I think there are people who don’t realize that as a man, you have the same rights to not be touched without your consent.

I think it’s also more common that a girl can make uninvited sexual contact with a man without offending them than it is for a guy to make uninvited sexual contact with a girl without offending them. If she grabs your dick and it makes you upset, you were assaulted. If she grabs your dick and you liked it, it’s technically not assault. The contact has to have a harmful or offensive result.

"Sexual assault" if you mean like unwanted groping, by a woman, doesn't challenge a mans sense of identity (masculinity) the way a man being assaulted by another man would. Most gender role conforming men won't actually care at all. Women also generally don't care when other women grope them, my ex used to tell me stories about a female coworker touching her bottom inappropriately and she talked about it like it was just quirky and annoying, but not dangerous.

It's different for women for a few reasons, but it's definitely related to power structures. Alot of women use sex appeal to get what they want out of life so when a man disrespects that "social contract" it feels like a huge blow to the ego and their value/power. For men (I've been groped by women inappropriately a few times growing up) it stimulates the ego at best and at worst it's just irritating. Not to compare humans to dogs, but you wouldn't get super upset and take it personally if a dog humps your leg right? You'd push them off and forget about it the next day.

It's obviously more complex then that though, and men are generally perceived as predators by default. Women generally get the benefit of the doubt in most things, except maybe leadership, which is changing.

On another note: rape is ENTIRELY different. The primary goal of rape is to cause pain and fear, no matter who does it or who's the victim.

The effect it had on me though, that was real. I didn't even think about it until a couple years ago, and that when it dawned on me that it was actual assault and had many effects in the short and long term. Cut out a bunch of people because of it, and the feelings and thoughts prevented me from having any real relationships since. After that it was every day with different adults, men, women, older teens, everyone was sleeping with everyone else in this rural community.

After about 18 months I was given to another couple in the same community and they sex trafficked me for nearly two years. I knew what was happening and I either in automatic sex robot’ mode pleasing everyone or I dissociated.

I had a mandatory online video presentation that I had to watch based on sexual violence for my University last week and omg it was catered towards women so hard. They showed examples of women being sexually assaulted by a guy but They said that men can be victims but then only showed one example of a man I forcing him self on another man, NEVER talking about a women raping a man. I was so mad and confused and annoyed.

Sexual assault towards mean isn’t talked about as much because it isn’t as big of an issue, don’t get me wrong, it’s an issue and it deserves awareness but it’s like 1 in 7 sexual assault cases and because of the way men have been brought up in society with very little focus on knowing whether something happens to us and what to do rather being taught what happens to women and what we can do, it sucks but we don’t live in a perfect world
