Honestly, the only formal date I ever went on was once in high school. I always dated men I knew as friends first, and we would just sort of hookup after hanging out one night. And then it would progress to a relationship. We never went on dates, per se, until after the relationship started.

Yes, many people still go on dates. I’ve had about 5 in the last month. I’ve also started relationships without any formal dating.

The fact some people hook up or even start relationships without dating doesn’t mean dating isn’t a thing.

Yes. I would say there are more people who sort of phase into a relationship from being friends, hooking up, or “talking” without officially dating nowadays, but yes, people still absolutely do go on dates.

If you ask men and women, you will get different answers that don't add up. A lot of women seem to be under the impression that going out for drinks and sex after is "dating." It isn't. It's a casual hook-up. Dates do not have the goal of immediate sex, so in that regard, I don't think too many people go on dates anymore. Not the ones that don't involve sex anyway. Few people actively pursue getting to know somebody, aka "dating" these days.

Girls I met from tinder and OLD would say that a lot. You're 20+ and never went on a date? That let me know immediately what type of time she was on. A lot of women don't go on dates. They just meet up with Chad, get high or drunk, and get some dick. Once women started commenting on the quality of my dates, I knew I had to do less. I was thinking about this the other day. I’ve dated plenty of girls and have an active social life and dating is not even a requirement anymore. You meet people through friends and just link up. Unless going out drinking is a date, dates are definitely not really a thing. I went out last week with my friends and they brought a girl with them and we hooked up and I like her and wanna ask her out on a date but idk if that’s lame. People just don’t go on proper dates like that anymore and don’t wanna look try hard

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: ‘dating’ as in going on a specifically designated date is probably more often the realm of adults than teens and college students. If you are young, that may explain why this concept seems alien to you. Young people tend to pair up with people they have already met and know from other circumstances, such as friend groups, parties, school, etc. Most of the old taboos about private intimate encounters between young people have gone, so it’s easy to make a transition between group socializing to 1:1 socializing in a private venue without needing to go on an actual date in public. Dating in public is more of an activity that appeals to established couples who would like to do something out of the ordinary as a special occasion, or to single people who are meeting strangers to evaluate mutual interest and compatibility.

Outside of dating apps I don't think many younger people go on traditional dates, my friends just seem to move from a friendship straight into a relationship. Formal dates outside of online dating are mostly for older generations, people looking for marriage candidates, and people that are a bit socially awkward and can't get into relationship naturally.

I go on first dates almost every week. After a few, you realize it's almost always the same thing : You match on Hinge/Bumble/Feeld/Tinder, you chat a bit talking about cats, sports, music, jobs and a day or two later you ask them to go grab a drink to get to know eachother.

It can be a coffee, sit in a park drinking kombucha, go to a bar.

Like people said, sex is not the most important part of the date. What's important : Getting to know the other, seeing if you like them and making them understand you like them.

It's more intimidating than it really is ☺️
