I have a personal story that articulates this phenomenon. I went to a big party college. Lots of very attractive girls. I was good looking but had zero game and therefore never got any action all throughout my time there (no girlfriend, no dates, not even a kiss ever). Fast forward to my senior year, and I'm in a long distance relationship with an attractive girl from back home...personally my sex life was better than it ever had been. One weekend she backed out of plans to come up and instead of staying in, I decided to go to my fraternity party anyway. A girl was there who I didn't know well but always had a crush on... I really didn't pay any attention to her because I was in a relationship and seduction was not where my head was at. Well, the party was coming to an end, and the girl approached ME and asked if I wanted to Uber back to our dorm together. She followed me to my room and we played video games for a bit, and we had both been drinking ... very effortlessly without any agenda we ended up making out and our clothes were off pretty quickly and we hooked up and I regret to say it was pretty incredible. Very, very terrible story that I'm rightfully ashamed of, honestly. (I told her afterwords, without explaining why, that we shouldn't hook up again, and we never did. Unrelated to my act of infidelity, my long term relationship died a natural death a couple months later.).

But the point of this story is that I went through FOUR years of college, going to tons of parties, always hoping that I'd meet a cute girl and get laid, but never even getting a kiss. Then, when I finally got a girlfriend, I gave off such a non-needy aura at this party (I was honestly just there to have fun) that I attracted the best looking girl there without even trying at all. To this day, that girl remains the most attractive girl I've ever been with, and she's also the only girl I ever hooked up with without "trying" to. How bizarre is that?? It's both amazing and maddening. It's a total mindfuck to try and achieve this non-needy state without truly being non-needy...WAY easier said than done... but I'm fully convinced that tapping into that headspace is a major key to attraction.
