Anyone dating for marriage is looking for someone who is attractive, wants the same things, and seems to have the ambition, skills, maturity, and aptitude to get there.

If you are a guy and you're not doing this with women you're dating for long term, you're doing it wrong.

ONS/FWB things that aren't serious have different standards centered mostly around short term goals like social circle or just having fun with someone very attractive you know there isn't more there with.

This mostly just seems like a bitter perspective though. Men are functioning the same way - you could take the homeless girl on the street with missing teeth and rough features who has a good heart after you give it a chance and find that you have a good connection. Probably won't though.

Most people are looking for people who benefit their lives in some way - many aren't paying attention to the most important ways, but you'd be hard pressed to find a man looking for a relationship who doesn't have a clear idea of what he wants most in a woman. If they didn't think women would benefit their lives, they probably wouldn't be dating.

The last sentence gives away the pure bitter anger that defies logical reasoning in this post : "Dating women are far less interested in connection or common interests, they see dating as what can this man do for me."

I disagree. Anecdotally, I can count on one hand how many women didn't care about their connection or common interests with a dating prospect. However, you're also just framing things emotionally. Sharing connection or common interests is something we provide for or do for one another in relationships - we entertain each other, stimulate each other, connect each other to wider experiences and perspectives based on those common interests, even just the reality of partnership is full of ways we are "doing something for someone else," so I'd argue there's not that much of difference if you're looking at things objectively. The differences would be what kinds of things are we seeking from one another and what kinds of acts of service or benefits do we give to one another in relationships. I would argue that not only *can* you have a variety of types of ways of serving and benefiting one another, but you *should* and men also definitely do.

This definitely was not true for me. I didn't sleep with my husband for over a month. The fact that I kissed him on the first date was a huge green flag. I only hooked up quickly when I wasn't interested in the guy for more than just sex and only if I was in the mood for that. Sometimes a guy is attractive and I'm still not feeling it. I needed time to analyze relationship potential and I'm in a different headspace. You also don't really know which relationship will end up going anywhere, so unless you genuinely want to see what the sex is like early on (valid!), it's kind of illogical as a woman to hook up immediately when looking for a partner. However, I date very intentionally and I have a dominant personality - I like to be in control and focused on feeling out the common ideologies, beliefs, and values (far leftist feminist harpy here - had to make sure I didn't land a conservative or moderate) and I wanted to accurately assess his personality type and goals.

I have also turned down guys someone like you would think are out of my league and/or who have a lot of money BECAUSE of our poor connection and things I picked up about them. Being a "lotto ticket" isn't nearly enough to put myself in a relationship where my emotional well being is at stake with the wrong match or worse, where we might end up together longterm with that dynamic. I was actively looking for a husband when I was single though.

Men are also assessing who they want to be with. Idk where my husband fits into your scenario, because you seem to think any attractive qualities make someone a lotto ticket, which is weird. My husband has been in multiple relationships, more than I have before him. One was a kind of ongoing thing with a woman not too long before he met me. She was a good woman from what I could tell from his accounts and wanted to marry him. He didn't want to marry her and even told her that he didn't want to apply the gf/bf label to their relationship when it was brought up. This relationship went on for several months. We were official bf/gf after like one month and I would not have wasted my time on anyone playing the "no labels" game. My point is that men are also evaluating who they want as well based on their own list of qualities and traits that seem worth investing in. That doesn't mean there's no connection or commonality or love. This is literally how human relationships work.

Honestly so tired of these types of posts in this sub. It’s the same point over and over again with slightly different phrasing every time. We get it a lot of men who post here think women are too selective when it comes to long term partners and disapprove of how women decide on which men to hook up with or not. Trust me your viewpoint is HEARD we get it. We don’t need you to keep recycling the same tired ass idea.

One thing that always stands out to me on these posts is how much men tend to miss the underlying current of dating being higher risk for women. Does it ever occur to you all that women are trying to select for what men will statistically hurt them less? Emotionally, physically, financially or all 3? Clearly no.

How many men making these posts have ever been assaulted on a date? How many have been stalked? How many have been attacked walking back to their car because they didn’t want to go to other persons place to have sex? Obviously men also can be victimized I am absolutely not saying that doesn’t happen. I also recognize that when it does happen men are believed far less compared to women. Which is horrible so save your breath explaining that to me. THE PATRIARCHY HURTS US ALL men and women alike.

How women have to navigate the world is so different compared to the majority of men and it seriously shows in these types of posts. I honestly can empathize with men who have this viewpoint because I can imagine how much harder life must be when you lack the ability to interpret any scenario from a viewpoint other than your own. It must feel lonely and like things are stacked against you and I really can see how draining and demoralizing that must be.

Also whenever we get these ranked/ bullet point ideas of categories of “types of men” women go for and their complaints I’m just like….. damn do you guys have any female friends? If you do doubt you’re actually listening to anything they say because their number one complaint I assure you is not men just want to have sex.

It’s so much more complicated than that men deceive and mislead women to get to the outcome they want. Their complaints are not about just being viewed as sex objects it’s an overarching feeling that we CANT TRUST MEN because of how they behave.

So many men love to bring up the biological differences between men and women but completely ignore the glaring fact based on their own logic when discussing dating. Most if not all men are biologically physically stronger than women. They can hurt you. They can force you. Our society is still set up in a way that favors men. We have made some progress sure but the main theme is still women being to blame because they out themselves in a situation to be assaulted because “we all know how men are.”

All of you constantly whining about issues like this are doing so because your day to day isn’t filled with the constant fear and paranoia that women have on experience. You should consider yourselves lucky that your biggest gripe clearly is how much and to whom women are providing sex to. Not how you have to share your location and keep a 3rd party friend on deck when meeting a man for the first time because this might be the one that rapes you or kills you. For real everyone needs to get a fucking grip this same old sob story is getting fucking old it doesn’t matter how you dress it up and rephrase it. Just a spoiler alert it doesn’t matter how you post this same topic women are never going to be like, “you know what? That one random guy on Reddit finally said the same thing again but slightly different and now I should toss all my lived experience out the window and agree with him.”
