Looks and personality both matter. Personality matters more in terms of a long term, healthy relationship but having mutual attraction as well is obviously the ideal. I don’t think most people want to be in a relationship with someone who finds them unattractive or even mid, even if compatibilities exist elsewhere.

I do think there can be caps to how good anyone can look due to genetics (assuming we’re ignoring plastic surgery), but most people can probably improve looks-wise enough to get interest from someone. It doesn’t mean that the self improver will like the new options but I like to think that the -cels of the sub would prefer to know someone finds them desirable then nobody at all 🤷🏾‍♂️

Personally, I get a decent amount of matches but I feel they're often mid-looking and not representative of my 'IRL league'.

Looks only gets you scraps as a man. It gets you easy sexual access to women below your league, IE. women who are uglier than you.

Getting attractive women (as a physically attractive man) is far more complicated.

I came across an insanely attractive man on Instagram last night. Easily 10/10 on looks. 6'2" minimum. Incredibly fit. NYC-based corporate guy with 30k followers (fitness account). He was following ~100 accounts, several of which were chubbier, thicker women.

I've found that a lot of the most attractive men aren't as hell bent about women being a certain size. It's almost like the fact these men can get literately anyone makes them less obsessed with only desiring petite size 2 girlies.

It's always the most mid looking dudes who are obsessed with women who are tiny so they feel bigger and better about themselves.

There is a reason rich people are generally more attractive and it's not because of their superior genetics. It's time and resources to improve their looks.

You can't make a conclusion on what matters based on dating app when the (almost) only thing you show there are looks. Oа course you'll be sorted by looks because there is no other criteria. Doesn't translate in real life.

My impression if men and women have average genetics: Be “n + 1” of whatever body type you prefer in women, if you want the woman to simp a bit for the man

Obese/chubby women seem to simp a bit for guys who are overweight
Thick women (big butt and boobs, wide-ish frame, but flat stomach) seem to simp a bit for scrawny guys who diet, but don’t exercise much
Thin women seem to simp a bit for average/healthy guys
Average/healthy women simp a bit for fit guys (people who work a trade, play a sport, or go to the gym and maintain a good diet)
Fit women (the toned & curvy types you see using stair master at a gym) seem to either prefer guys who look a bit like a body builder, or maybe with some “Chad” genetics, or if they’re 30+, average/healthy guys with good jobs

The scrawny and slightly overweight categories are the hardest to generalize for both genders because your genetics can have a big impact on whether that works out well for you. For example, with bad genetics, an overweight guy would be called “pudgy”. With good genetics, he’d be called a “bear”, or some women might say he looks cuddly. Muscle mass and body fat also don’t necessarily follow a perfect linear increase. Some people have more muscle, and others have more body fat.

Corporate/nerdy guys can get messed up in dating if they don’t have any source of exercise to boost muscle mass. This is one reason guys who work in trades or military can sometimes have an easier time, even if their personalities are usually worse

Competence (especially emotional but also general competence) is far more important than looks and is the most decisive factor in who is able to have long and stable long-term relationship.
