Better raising and accountability for those already fully grown. It’s not young children out here raping women. It’s full grown men.

I understand this subreddit is here to recognize the issues men go through, which are real and valid. But the discourse in this thread is terrifying. It’s exactly the thing women are trying to highlight and show you all.

Men all get mad about CNN reporting bad numbers and women feeding into the fear and then you blame the women for being misandrist and shit talk the “feminist rage machine”.

Men DON’T provide a safe space making it hard for women to trust and also provide the safe space back.

Instead of focusing on what this article is talking about, the communities men create to do terrible things, men rage about women being scared.

If you want to focus on men’s issues and the good men not being recognized as humans with feelings, maybe call out and attack the men in the article who aren’t similar to you and making things worse.

Women are provided safe spaces. There's an expectation for women to have these because of men and however whenever there's an attempt to create one for men it's often assaulted by bad actors on both sides.

Like I dunno what you expect any man to actually do about these communities when 10s of millions of us were also surprised by this article and the existence of those videos and telegram group. Like for reference I'm a gay man and i mostly use pornhub and xhamster for my porn, what would you expect me personally to do about "sleep porn" and a "rape academy" if I'm not even in the same spaces as where these videos are?

That's why I hate #AllMen because it puts a lot of onus on men who are just as powerless as women to do anything about rape culture. I don't sit with company who thinks women are at fault with rape. I don't sit with company who are trans/queerphobic or misogynistic, so what more am I or others like me expected/supposed to do?

You are naive to think they care? Many women in today's generation are solipsistic and numerous simpy men enable their behaviour. And the left is too weak to call them out for it, scared to be labelled sexist.

That's why many men have moved towards the center or centre-right.

The left doesn't give a damn about them. I know this sub cares about men even after being left wing. But this sub is a fringe minority of the left. Majority of the left could care less about men. Unless they are a minority and can use "minority rights" as a way to give women more power.

For example, What has the left done for Indian men recently, nothing.

Moreover, they bash indian men calling them rapey and disgusting. Indian women aren't helping the cause by siding with the majority white people who echo this sentiment.

Frankly, I have stopped expecting anything from anyone. They are either too spineless or outright manipulative.

It’s rare that social media affects my mood but this really got to me yesterday. Seeing how this spread like wildfire across TikTok completely out of context was surreal.

It’s sounds fucked up but it’s almost like some women wanted it to be true in order to justify some underlying hatred.

I often see left wing folks call right wingers inept, stupid, lack critical thinking etc. and yet here we have thousands of so called “progressives” online falling for obvious nonsense. It’s infuriating on so many levels.

You now have echo chambers saying that no man is safe and that fathers, brothers, sons, male friends should all be treated with suspicion and not trusted (with tens of thousands of likes).

And anyone that tries to provide the actual context is labeled a rapist, creep, apologist, misogynist etc.

Not that I think it would make any difference at this point, but I really think CNN owes it to everyone to publish a follow up correction on this. Although based on the initial article, I already think they are devoid of journalistic integrity.

I would also love if a respected high profile female content creator level set other women on the facts. But I imagine that’s never gonna happen either.

I honestly don’t have the energy for this anymore. If i found out any women in my life were engaging and resharing this misinformation, id probably just cut them out of my life.

I tried getting through to someone yesterday and... yeah... they want it to be true.

I called out the disinfo, they denied. Once I quoted the literal article and they couldn't deny, they pulled the "but it represents a bigger problem" argument.

So they basically just admitted that the reality of the situation did not matter, because it confirmed an existing perception about the world. As a "fuck you" I gave them research on how doomer generalizations are actively counterproductive to solving the issues because people get grief-locked then gave a dichotomy of "while I'm working to get these 1,000 abusive men actually punished, you're in your bedroom crying. Who's doing more to fix the problem?"

OFC that was a bit of a bluff, I'm not doing anything direct towards those guys. But I will still rationalize that being in an action mindset will lead to doing more than a doomer mindset.

Who stands to gain from the left loosing focus on economic issues and issues of ownership and power to instead focus on identity politics? Who stands to gain from working people fracturing over things like sex, race and so on?

The answer is simple. Does that mean that the capitalist/owning class is secretly behind all things identity political? No. But I don't think it is a coincidence that so called moderates within the left prefers to campaing on empty identity political slogans and weaponises identity politics to attack real lefties demanding real economic change, real democracy and power to unions and so on (Bernie is a good example of a real leftie who was attacked using identity politics).

Unfortunately, we within the left are good at doing this to ourselves too and to many leading lefties are well-situated academically educated upper middle class/upper class people who might themselves loose out on real left wing policies, but are not threatened at all by the identity political rethoric and the occasional minor identity political policy.

I have another question. Do the 20,000 sleep videos on Motherless collectively have “hundreds of thousands of views” or some of the individual vids have hundreds of thousands of videos? Here is what CNN said. “One porn site, Motherless, is home to more than 20,000 videos of so-called “sleep” content uploaded by users, with hundreds of thousands of views.….So-called “sleep” content is categorized using descriptive tags such as #passedout and #eyecheck……with some “eyecheck” videos surpassing 50,000 views.….” Based on this language, what do you think it is? My thinking is since CNN talked about one video surpassing 50k views, that vid was the highest viewed vid they got hence they mentioned it therefore 20k vids collectively have hundreds of thousands of views, with some as high as 50k each. Or could it mean eyecheck vids have 50k highest views, and other sleep porn vids (which are most likely cnc) get hundreds of thousands of views?What do you think?

Except they are saying it's every man. They're rationalizing intense fear of other men. They using these stats to justify mistreating men who've done nothing wrong. I'm not missing how many women were assaulted. That is LITERALLY what the feminists are doing by insanely overblowing the actual statistic. “That’s still millions of evil men partaking” ~ well actually the hits aren’t even defined by gender so we don’t have any sense for the actual number of men these visits represent ~

“Well it’s still obviously millions of men visiting the rpe academy because women obviously wouldn’t. So the visits are 99.9% men” ~ well actually it’s just a porn website thats poorly moderated. So it’s 62 million visits to a porn website, not a rpe academy. That disturbing content was only a tiny subset tied to around 1000 men ~

“The number doesn’t matter. Stop making excuses for men. Stop trying to minimize women’s suffering at the hands of men “ ~ not trying to minimize women’s suffering. 1000 is 1000 too many but context matters. Most of that sites viewers were American. There’s only like 130 mil men in USA. If 62 mill men had done what the social media posts imply, then every 1 in 2 American men would be involved and society would know about it long ago.

I don't condone doing stuff like this obviously, but that's what went through my head - specifically that when someone watches, for example, a gore video it doesn't mean they want to realize it in real life or anything like that (it's like violent games argument all over again), hell, there are teenagers who watch stuff just to be edgy or curious, the same thing when I read Adolf Hitler's famous book M.K. - I'm absolutely not a nazi, I'm just interested in geopolitics from 1648 to now, but with that sort of misguided logic presented, everyone who downloads the book is a Nazi. Furthermore with a (reasonably short?) video it's expected that some people just visit it just out of boredom or being curious et cetera. And probably many other reasons and motivations that surely escape me now. The lack of nuance in this trendy hate wave is unhinged.

I’m not saying it’s nice for men to feel bad about themselves, but that is the lesser consequence.

And here is where I pointed out the extreme danger in you claiming it to be of lesser consequence.

Tell that to future men who will contribute to suicide statistics after offing themselves from having to endure more hatred from people using this "Study" as leverage.

I also mentioned boys, BOYS, a vulnerable population, having studies like this hammered into their developing minds. All the toxic shame forced down their throat.

Yet what do you do?

Tell that to all the women who kill themselves after being raped. Or the women who don’t kill themselves…but are still raped. I’m not saying ALL men get offended at the statement “men shouldn’t rape women”, I’m saying if men do find that offensive then that’s deeply concerning.

You deflected and minimized the seriousness of your mentality and that of current society, the examples of the devastating long-term effects it carries, of which are already being felt and have been felt for awhile now.

If you truly cared about female victims, you'd step back in introspection, reflect on this, and go "You know, you have a point. This shouldn't be about who has it worse."

But you didn't. Instead, you reduce it to men being offended.

Listen to me carefully: I experienced the dark side of girls and women at a young age. Still carrying its effects. Thanks to ignorant worshippers of females like you, I have no choice but to keep this trauma suppressed because I've had many like you attack me, proclaiming that what I went through is NOTHING compared to what women and girls go through.

You’ve definitely picked through what I’ve said and only heard what you want to hear.

No, I read words that you typed in various comments along with the context you in which wrote them, and interpreted the meaning from there.

You said it was "a joke that people here call themselves leftists or advocates" in response to the expression of worry over how this kind of misreporting negatively affects men. You would not be the first person to come here and insinuate or outright say that being a leftist means you cannot prioritize men's issues.

Secondly when someone brought up how this situation contributes to the larger issue of men's mental health which includes suicide risks, you insisted on steering the conversation into women who commit suicide due to sexual violence.

Finally you overall seem to have an attitude that while men have a right to be upset over this, we need to tone down our concern and worry over how it might affect us because women have it worse/are the real victims.

As I said before, I don't know why your kind of person comes to a place that literally advertises that it is for focusing on men's issues and then tries to subvert that in favor of the group you advocate for. It serves no purpose.

When I said it was a joke people here call themselves leftists or advocates I was referring to this sub as a whole, not this post. I doubt that’s what you want to hear either, but the general theme of this subreddit is belittling women’s issues because of how it affects men’s feelings.

While if you only look at me bringing up female suicide in response to male suicide, I can see that looks bad, but it was actually the other person who shifted the topic first while I was talking about female abuse. These kinds of conversations have that cyclical/shifting the focus nature to them, I didn’t start that.

You’re correct, I do have the attitude that while men have the right to be upset and that misinformation is bad, they’re losing sight of the bigger picture here which is that a highly abusive porn site was visited 62 million times in one month. That statistic is still the bigger issue for me, more than the 1000 men, because I know what kind of content is pushed on the website. If the original poster had focussed on the whole picture (that misinformation is harmful but didn’t dismiss the accurate data) then I wouldn’t have felt the need to comment at all.

I'm just going to address the overall theme of your comment (your feelings on this subreddit and your thoughts about this particular thread/issue) before I go into what you said about male suicide.

What you said has cemented my original impression that you are of the attitude that women's issues are important enough that the way addressing them impacts men is a vastly inferior concern. I'm not going to try to talk you out of it; I've tried to do so before, and it has almost never worked.

What I will say is that every group has the right to look at an issue and prioritize how it affects them first and foremost regardless of who the "real" victims are.

I used this example once before in a similar conversation but it's like how I once felt disgust with certain transgender groups that made the school shootings carried out by trans individuals all about them rather than the dead children and devastated families/communities.

But then I got some perspective and realized that every group has the right to prioritize their wellbeing first and foremost no matter what. Men are no different; we are under no obligation to downplay our concern about how it affects us because women have it worse.

I know that it goes against the "hierarchy" of who should be cared for most---which is why I suspect you harbored doubts about the leftist aspect of the sub---but no one should be forced to sideline their own group's issues in favor of another one's. I certainly suspect you wouldn't expect women to do so.

The way I read it, this person brought up how widespread misinformation like this could worsen existing fear/hate against men and thus lead to worse mental health outcomes which includes suicide.

There was no reason to bring up female victims who take their own lives in that context, when someone was trying to explain why this will have negative effects on men.

I'll be honest. You don't come off as someone who hates men, as much as you sound like someone who believes that men's issues are not as bad as women's and therefore men should "know our place" in terms of how we act when bringing them up.

That thought process will not win you any support or friends here, since this sub very much rejects this way of thinking and often shoves a proverbial middle finger in its face---and rightly so.

That's one of the reasons I suggested you seek out a more woman centered space since it would cater to your sensibilities far more than here.

You have to balance not just how many people something affects, but the severity as well. Taking this as an isolated incident and ignoring other things that can contribute to feelings of guilt or frustration for men on the internet, I think the real world harm of 1000 men potentially raping people and coaching others to rape people does more damage than the misinformation on this news story. This is also driven by the fact that I don’t believe the 62 million visits to the page are innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire. The website is known for its hardcore assault materiel; that’s what the majority were looking at.

I do also acknowledge that you’re getting into more philosophical territory when trying to quantify what’s worse: 1 person being murdered vs 100 people being injured. There’s room for discussion there.

Maybe if you compare it to this specific news story only yeah, but if you compare it to the pattern of news stories then I am not so sure.

These kinds of stories don't just result in men feeling shame, they also result in stigma on men who face assault and abuse because it feeds into the idea that these things are done solely by men towards women. And this includes laws, research agenda's and policies.

There's no objective answer though to how frequency and severity should be compared.

The only reason I talked about this as an isolated event was because there are also so many other instances of sexual exploitation (predominately of women, but men as well) that the scales become even again, or arguably even more weighted towards the suffering of abuse victims. You’re right though, there isn’t an objective answer.

The main thing is that I think it’s important for there to be enough space in the conversation to talk about the harm of misinformation without dismissing the other accurate sides of the story. Nobody benefits from misinformation; there’s also a deeply concerning story here about women being exploited and betrayed by people they trust. I think there’s enough room to talk about both, that probably didn’t come across in my original comment as I was enraged by people dismissing the other half of the conversation point-blank.

I am engaging, my opinion is just different from yours. To me, a key point with the statistics that I don’t think people are acknowledging is that while the 62 million visits were not to this particular group chat, the website itself it’s really quite heinous. I think the original article should have focussed more on the fact that this is a popular porn website thats main draw is that it platforms hardcore, extremely questionable, often illegal content. I do know there was a point made earlier around the possibility that the majority of the women featured in the videos could be actors (though equally it could be real, and the ethics of the porn industry itself is a whole other can of worms), and that if it’s between consenting adults, what’s the issue? But I think consent has become the bare minimum in a way that can harbour a dangerous culture in spaces such as the bdsm scene where consent is put above duty to protect others from harm where you can. I’ll admit it’s a nuanced topic where personal freedoms and harm prevention war with each other.

Everything is just messed up and feels so dire. I can’t go a day without seeing a new story of a woman or young girl being raped or murdered, which breaks my heart and makes me terrified. I also want to live in a world that nurtures and cares for each other, including its men, and I can see that it can probably become suffocating and depressing being online as a man. I suppose in summary, the internet is a volatile place for all involved for different reasons. I think outside of online spaces, women are at a greater risk of violence and harassment. But all of it’s terrible, no matter the perpetrator or the victim. Shits fucked, and the left (the whole left) should make more of an effort to stop its infighting and try to unfuck shit.

Here's the thing, it's impossible to tie visits to that porn site to any actual misconduct. You can think it's gross or objectionable, but there are 1001 reasons why someone may. Hell, their traffic is probably spiking this month solely from curiosity.

It's fair to critique the website for it's dubious content hosting. But that is separate from critiquing men writ large.

The reason you hear about a woman or young girl being raped or murdered every day is largely because it gets moral reactions. More men are killed senselessly. Rape is a mess in general, so hard to say. But we don't hear about it because people don't care about men. That isn't to say the stories about women are wrong. It's to say there is a clear exposure and emotional bias. Acknowledging that bias is the bare minimum for understanding, imo.

I would love ending the infighting. But I cannot in good conscience accept my brothers being slandered. I cannot in good conscience accept toxic behavior that harms men, even if it may benefit women.

It has never been my intention to dismiss the abuse that men face, and, for the most part, I’ve used gender inclusive language when talking about victims of abuse. I do not value female victims of violence more than male victims, the only part which is gendered is that statistically, men are the bigger perpetrators of violent crime. Whilst it’s less likely because homosexual couples are less common than heterosexual couples, some of the victims discussed on the group chat could have been men or boys and I am equally exercised by their abuse as I am the abuse of women and girls. I think my main “gripe” has become misconstrued. I am not putting the hardships of women over men, I am putting sexual and physical violence above the issue of bad journalism.

I’m also deeply concerned about the violence against men, to repeat what I said before, I care about all victims, it just so happens that men are the biggest perpetrators of violent crime towards women and other men.

No. Misinformation that causes no direct damage is not worse than a literal physical crime enacted. We are not talking about misinformation about a nuclear bomb
If someone wants to believe "all men" or "all women", they won't care about nuances. They'll use this, yes, but this is not what would cause it. It was already in them.
Talking about their image being more important than the literal crimes is exactly what so many people complain about these dudes doing

I just read the case of a 14-year-old girl who was raped by a tuk-tuk driver and then held in the police station for 1 month as one policeman raped her. It was only through a feminist group that they could set her free.

I have thousands of stories like this one across the world.

And these people say that feminism is all the same, all feminist movements, and all feminist people. Exactly the same movement they complain about.

Patriarchy is younger than aboriginal permaculture, and look how we are now. Some studies go as far as to say we lost brain mass since it started alongside self-domestication and monocultures. Almost like harming the health of those whose health depends on that of the next generation affects us all as species.

Thinking that women being harmed is men winning is as stupid as polluting the air and thinking the air "lost."

I'm not saying they think that, but my gosh, do some of them seem to think like that.
