This is sort of a spin-off from the recent thread about women using hookups as a gateway to LTRs. I noticed that a lot of the comments included stuff about how a guy isn’t responsible for a woman’s feelings and that as long as he hasn’t promised commitment, it’s her problem if she feels used if he dumps her after sex.

But then I noticed this comment by Mr Smoogs, and it got me thinking. I hate to call you out explicitly, but I wanted to see what the general consensus was, with regards to lies by omission when it comes to dating.

Imagine we flip this sentiment around to guys that are being friend zoned or used for money, free gifts, attention, free trips and just general favors. Is this lie by omission one that women should continually implement to get what they want from men? Should we turn a blind eye to women that do this and/or encourage more women to do the same for guys that they just want to keep temporarily?

I’ve always been of the opinion that as long as you’re honest with the guy and he decides to stick around, perhaps because he’s hoping that you’ll someday see what a nice guy he is and give him a chance, then you’re all good. But now I’m starting to re-evaluate this. Perhaps women are too nice. What is your opinion on not being honest about it at all, and either evading the question or his attempts to date or move things along sexually? Or just giving little hints and suggestive flirting that keep and make him continue to hope for actual sexual contact someday. See how much he’s willing to sacrifice for you and what lengths he’s willing to go to be with you, and then decide whether or not he’s worthy of sex with you. Use that opportunity to date around and see which guy you’re most compatible with, and then decide from there.

To what extent do you think we should go to protect the feelings of friend zoned guys or pump and dumped girls?
