How rampant is cheating exactly?

Studies put it at 10-20% with men being a bit more likely. I read an interesting paper on it a while ago. White men were more likely to cheat but when they accounted for sexually liberal ideas the rates between men and women became the same. Black men were twice as likely as white men to cheat and they could find nothing to account for this. Also, while there was minimal difference between education levels and rate of cheating they did find that the most educated (masters or higher) and the least educated (high school dropout) were more likely to cheat.

Once I left college and leveled up to "married adult with child and property" I rarely encountered cheaters in my social group (which comprises of other married adults with children and property).

Caveat; I don't know the inner workings of my friend's relationships, however people gossip and cheating has never entered the grapevine. Alcoholism, secret gay, gambling addiction, and severe debt are things I've heard about my group, but never cheating.

I don't know how rampant cheating is, no one I know does it (or at least own up to it). I know if a cheating rumor broke out in my group that shit would be scandalous.

My gut feeling is: take the reported instances of cheating and double them, and then you have a better idea on how much it really happens.

I don't think it's "rampant". I think it happens much, much more often than we think it does, or than people are willing to admit, even on anonymous surveys.

Probably more than people think, but not exactly "rampant."

"Cheating" is a socially constructed term. Outside of the dating world and our modern, Blue Pilled society, nearly everything "cheats."

The purpose of sex is to produce offspring, not to mark territory.

So it seems about 51% of men and about 36% of women had a sexual affair (emotional connection optional) and about 13% of men and 21% of women an emotional affair (no sex).

Although I understand that the rate of sexual infidelity is about the same for both sexes in research of more recent age cohorts.

I think it depends where you live. Where I live both sexes are super slutty. I heard of or saw at least a dozen cases this weekend. It's pure filth here, seems no one stays faithful. It's so bad the general advice guys give each other is not to date , just play the field. I assume its the same for women.

I read an article about it (infidelity) the other day that was linked in the books sub. The author called it “the death of the grand ambition of love.” After everything I’ve read in mrp/ppd etc... I think that’s pretty accurate. People find that the ideas about love that they have are different from the reality of what they actually have and it isn’t something that is capable of sustaining them. For whatever reason.

Edit: it was the last psychiatrist not books.

There's statistics saying 50% of marriages have a cheater in them.

I have friends (both male and female) who cheat a lot and have never been caught

IIRC, there was a study once that estimated from DNA tests done on random children that between 3% and 8% of children are fathered by someone other than the man listed on the birth certificate. I wish I had bookmarked it. It was some northern European country that did the study.

If you include emotional infidelity, such as cultivating a backup plan to hedge your current relationship against, the rates are quite high IMO.

Impossible to get hard data on this.

But very likely much higher than society and admits. (Leaks from online services are a good indicator.)

Also the rate of cheating is increasing. It gets easier to cheat thanks to technology. Society judges people (or at least women) less harshly for it and your social circles don't even have to know about it, since you can easily find affair partners online.

In my close social circle, I'd say 30-50% of the people either cheated or were cheated on at some point. And that's just the stuff that got out.

It's common, but not "rampant". Almost everyone I know has been cheated on at least once, but most people never cheat. I've been cheated on once and never cheated myself. People who cheat usually cheat on multiple partners.

I have 4 acquaintances I know for sure have cheated on their partners, although I'm sure there are plenty more I don't know about.

You'd be surprised how much it is rampant. No one's cut out for monogamy, that's for sure. Just some ppl have decency to end a current relationship before entering the next one. Cheaters deserve the worst possible punishment.
