In my area, it's basically reserved for trophy wives whose older husbands are fine with a young, hot wife that is not sexually attracted to him.

Ime it's mainly married women who disapprove. The married husbands rarely care unless they are with their wives.

Where it is most noticeable to me is in second wives. Very large age gaps often over a decade. From whispers I hear coming from women's tables, "i saw him a month after his divorce. She looked so much younger than him!"

"I think I know who you're talking about. Early thirties?"

"Early 20s..."

I think it's less the case for first marriages, and you're more likely to be judged as a man for your first marriage. Large age gap is likely prole. This is more intuitive/speculative on my part.

Divorce is already prole-like behaviour so second wife isn't as big a deal.

I'm 36, and have been dating early 20's aged women for about 10 years. Only ever dated one woman older than me. I'd like to try somebody within 5yrs of me in either direction again, but most women my age are taken, and early twenties are always so free and eager. It also may have something to do with me looking more late twenties, and most women not wanting to date younger men.

I didn't notice it when I was 18.

Because I didn't see 18-24 year old women dating men who weren't their age. I still don't.

Now that I'm 28 I'm seeing women my age date men who are in the 34-40 age range more than I used to.

It also makes sense. The 27-31 year olds are settling down.

The men who are 35+ also want to settle down and they think they're "winning" because they're getting a "younger" woman.

And the women are getting a guy a bit more established career wise.

That's why I don't get TRP's assertion that "nearing or post wall" women never have options.

Sure they do. They just gotta date 5+ years their senior. Literally the options are plentiful.

I wouldn't say it's 'common' as the average age gap for heterosexuals is 2.3 years, but as you can see from the data in the linked article, size of age gap increases with average partner age, so it's a more noticeable phenomenon when both members of the pairing are older.

Obviously take this with a pinch of salt as it's automatically collected facebook data, but it seems to fit the trend that I observe in my own life; my partner is 16 years older than me and a lot of his friends in their 40s date women in their early 30s/ late twenties, but when I started dating my partner in my late teens when he was mid thirties it was considered incredibly strange by my peers.

Well what do you mean by "a thing"? Does it happen sometimes? Sure. Can the average man rely on it happening for him in enough of a way to solve his libido and reproductive issues, especially if he's not attractive enough to get young women while he is young himself? Nope. Men who were unattractive in their twenties rarely are more attractive to twenty something women in their thirties and forties. Most of the very small number of older guys you see doing well were doing well as young men.

According to TRP, it's extremely common; guys who never attracted girls in their 20s suddenly become attractive (with girls in their 20s of course) when they're in mid-late thirties or even forties... Meanwhile back in the real world most couples are 2-3 years apart (with the man usually being the one being 2-3 years older).tl;dr Very rare.

It exists but not really that often. In my early 20s men in their 40s, even well off men, hit on me and my friends and we just thought it was gross and stuck with guys around own age within 5 years. I don't know any women in their 20s personally who are dating guys in their late 30s or 40s.

It can happen but the overwhelming majority of women still prefer men close to their own age.

In 1989, famous evolutionary psychologist surveyed 37 cultures world wide regarding human mating preferences and found that on average women prefer men who are only 3, 42 years older than them (Buss, 1989 - see table 4). In this same paper, Buss analyzed the age of marriage cross-culturally and found that the mean difference between couples age at marriage is 2.99 (male being older). Although a majority of women prefer older men, they do not want them to be much older. Despite these average preferences, when women are asked about the max and minimum age they would tolerate in a partner it's arround 10 years older and 2 or 3 years younger for women in their early 20s (Schwarz & Hassebrack, 2012 - view figure 4). Again, even after controling for this "standard deviation" it doesn't seem like women in their early 20s are willing to go older than men in 30-35 age range. Also, as women age, they are considerably more open to date much younger men and less open to date much older men than themselves.

Somewhat In line with all of this, a graph featured in the book Dataclysm: Who We Are (When We Think No One's Looking which i believe analyzed a lot of data from the OkCupid website has shown that women do tend to prefer men slightly older in their early 20s, to the very same age in their 30s to actually younger in their 40s.

So, in short, no dating much older men is not thing. Although it can obviously happen, women in their early 20s will rarely go past 30-35 age range. The younger, the less likely they go further in that age range.

It happens, but I don't think it's as common as some say. I've dated a few older men (34 when I was 23, 41 when I was 25), they weren't especially distinct from other relationships with men closer to my age. I'm attracted to confident, self assured men. Often, older men fit this preference a little better than younger, but not always.

My SO is two years younger than me, and at our age that's an insignificant difference. He's 30 and I'm 32.

Personally. When I was 25-30 I was sleeping with or saying girls 18-24. In my late 30s the girls I land seem to be all over the place. I've had very young ones flirt but I usually stay within 30-40.

I only date people (not just men - I've always been bi) who are between two and five years older than me. If they're younger, they're typically not in a place where they want to commit. If they're older, they're creepy and gross and why the fuck would you want to date an early-20-something when you're in your 30s anyway? Gross.

I'm now married-in-all-but-paperwork (paperwork in my state is a bitch) to a guy who's 27 to my 25, and it's working out great.

i don't think anyone is saying it's a common trend overall because it's pretty obvious that the older guys who are single and attractive enough to date hot young girls aren't really that common. there far more fat, balding, awkward 45 year olds who have trouble dating women their own age.

the "issue" is that the top 10% or whatever of older guys who CAN date younger girls ARE dating younger girls. and this drives older women insane.

a hot 20 year old girl can easily date a hot 20 yo guy. a hot 25 year old girl can date a hot 25 year old guy. but a hot 40 year old woman can't get any attention from hot 40 year old guys because those guys are too busy banging 22 year olds. the 40 year old women then have to either date a significantly less attractive guy close to her age, or date a significantly older guy (like a 60 year old)

Now that I'm in my mid to late twenties

I think women prefer to date someone their age, but it's not always an option, especially for those who aren't as attractive, nice, well-adapted or lucky. Basically, it's easier to date an older man, because older men have less options and they are likely to give you free bonus points for being younger. A woman might be just average to her peers, but older guys will think she looks incredible, and she can profit from that.

I live in an area with lots of retirees, like me. When these men get single, by death or divorce, the 40 and up women are interested. Seldom is a woman under 40 even interested unless she is a gold digger or has big issues. The women of similar age (55-up) are either sexually retired and don't play, or, they are uber available. For the widowers and divorced men, you can see a line forming at their door with a casserole in hand. Even a four-way, MFFF, is easy to get by a reasonably attractive male that is OK financially. Just my observations of my friends and neighbors.

I've seen it before, but not often. A few women I know have dated men 15+ years their senior. One led to marriage, the others were temporary and the next guy they dated was closer in age.

I must say the women in my family have never had an issue with -needing- to date older... my mother is older than my father, and I can think of 3 women in my family who married same aged men at 50+. My great-grandmother was never without a boyfriend and had a 20 years younger boyfriend who was utterly devoted to her in her 80s.

I'd argue that the fact it's even talked about is the disconnect.

For starters: no, just because you're older doesn't make dating young women easier per se.

However, the laundry list of stuff women want in a man tends to be hard to find in the same guy - and if a man is fit, charming, worldly, reasonably attractive, has interesting hobbies and the money to indulge in them, knows what he wants and is committal (which is overall a rare combination to find in a 25 year old), I can see why such a guy could date down quite a bit when it comes to age.

Also, this can be coloured by subjective experiences. I know that I would have an easier time dating women in their 20s now than I had when I was that age myself - simply because I sucked so much at it back then.

The disconnect is because this doesn't apply to older women, for one simple reason: for women, accumulating value in other areas generally doesn't compensate for a lack of youth. Let's be serious: your average guy who wants kids and a family would be better off a with random girl in her 20s who is homely and hasn't much going for her than with someone like Angelina Jolie (even if she wasn't crazy). Let that sink in for a moment: this woman with all her qualities (which isn't limited to looks) is in a very fundamental department less attractive than literally every fertile young woman in the world. That's pretty huge.

For women, age isn't just a number that somewhat has an impact, but which people may or may not care about. For men, that's basically the case.

I see it more with men then women but it happens both ways.

My friend's daughter was dating a guy older then the guy her mom was dating.

But the women I know who are married say they wouldnt date older, but then again the women I know past 50 who said they wouldnt date much older, are either breaking that rule or single. And these women are in pretty good shape.

Hmmmm, I very briefly dated a 42yo man when I was 23, but I was so naive I didn't understand. He wanted me to move in with him and when I moved out of the town to get on with my life he told me he would pay to fly me to go on holidays with him.

Then I went on dates with 29 and 30yo men when I was 23-24 but that was before I became RP because I always thought I needed a friend as a boyfriend. I went back to dating men only 2 years older before RP.

I can't really say how common it is to be fair. However, both sides in this platform have a chip on their shoulder enough to skew their perceptions on this:

TRP: they're fixed on their model which talks about peak ages. So they'll usually not go outside that. Output: younger girls will naturally gravitate to older alpha.
Bloop: triggered by the RP opinion, so go ahead and state young only stays with young.

That said, don't remember the dude's name (Dunn?), but some dude's research suggested that there is a "consistent cross-cultural preference by women for at least same-age or significantly older men". Reasons behind this? Perhaps like you outlined, being realistic about options and what not.

I'd put the reasoning down to men and women fundamentally wanting different things from dating.

Though, a lot of our social circles may have an influence on how often we see this. For instance, your average redditor might not be in such a sample because they spend more time on reddit than they do outside. :)

Is it really that common outside of wealthy circles? I've never dated a guy more than 3 years older than me and when I was in college all of my female friends dated guys within 1-2 years of their age (my college bf was actually 6 months younger than me).

Only 3+ years? I know countless couples like this where the man is a good deal older. Only one or two where the woman is more than a year. It's definitely a thing. Not just wealthy.

The real reason I think my friends date a bit older is because we know attractive guys our age are less likely to commit. An attractive 26 year is is less likely to be a good bf to me than an attractive 31 year old. I find the 26 year old more attractive objectively but I want to feel safe in the relationship so I go for the older guy.

Well, I'm not college age anymore as you can see from my flair, but when I started this relationship I was 21. We first had sex when I was 22, and he was 37 at that point. We're still dating/FwB/whatever label makes you most comfortable, to this day.

Honestly, his age wasn't/isn't a factor of my attraction towards him and if he was closer to my age it wouldn't make a difference so long as his personality and general looks stayed similar. I fell in love with a kind, patient, goofy, somewhat overweight nerd and I think that would have happened even if we were only 5-10 years apart.

It's the person, not the number.

Edit to add: We're both working middle-class, not high status, wealthy, or well connected to anyone who has that stuff.

This boils down to personal experience and observations, and mine were that girls constantly went for older guys, but I don't mean 14 year olds with 60 year olds. I mean like the freshman girls at my high school dated seniors, lots of other girls dated guys out of high school. Personally, I didn't get interest from girls until my senior year of high school and they were my sisters age down (she was a freshman when I was a senior lol).

The gym I go to is a bunch of couples that are almost all 30s professional guys with 20 something girls. A lot of these girls are Russian/Eastern euro and so their idea of attractive is a little different, and also these dudes almost all have their hair and are in great shape. Lots of ex military too.

An attractive 26 year is is less likely to be a good bf to me than an attractive 31 year old. I find the 26 year old more attractive objectively but I want to feel safe in the relationship so I go for the older guy.

The odd thing here is its always been a struggle for me and other guys I know to be taken seriously by girls our age. The girls who wanted to be our girlfriend at 26 were like 20 lol.

My mentor started dating a beautiful 18 year old at like 35, he is a redpill posterboy for success lol.

This leads me to another post idea I've been toying with about this exact issue largely, which is that TRP is about being the exception to the rule. Yes, most girls date guys within their age, but some guys date much younger girls, and TRP is all about how to be one of those exceptions.

Are you speaking of older or "old"? A 31 year old who takes care of himself is physically equivalent to a 25 year old fit dude. There are also plenty of guys who look younger than their age. Girls who have more expensive tastes tend to lean older as guys in their early 20s are more than likely going to be broke, so the girl who expects a night out in an exclusive restaurant won't go for the guys who can only handle house parties.

In my experience the question of age doesn't really become a thing for men below the age of 40. That is, guys can easily find dates when they are below that age (who haven't let themselves completely go).

maybe about 20% of women acknowledge they are attracted to older guys. Maybe another 20% or so are open to the possibility, or never considered it.

I see Older ( 40's, early 50's) guys on dates with younger women almost every weekend when I am around town. Dating ? A date? Are they attracted? Who knows.

All I know is it happens often enough to be noticeable.

From my own limited expirience women date older guys for money/security. And its still not a 20 year difference,more like 5. Saying this one of my closer friends is married to a guy 11 years older then her,she was happy and very attracted to him....he is now pushing 40 and while he does look good,he looks good for a 40 year old guy. For the past year she has been "in love" with our much younger collegue,he is about 3 years younger then her. He is very similar persobality and looks wise to her husband and a lot younger.

I’m a 25 year old woman dating a 40 year old man. I don’t think our situation is particularly common, but I do think that there are some benefits and detriments to our relationship specific to the age difference. He has a 19 year old son, and when we first started dating, I had to figure out how to approach talking to him about it- did he still want kids later, when would I meet his son, what was our relationship supposed to look like, etc. I worried about whether he would ever be interested in getting married since he had made it that far as a single person. There were just things that we had to be honest about as our relationship got more serious. If I were dating someone my age, for example, the conversation we had about student loan debt and where my career was headed would have looked a lot different. Essentially, the thing we had to get aligned on was what we wanted the future to look like and how we were going to contribute to building that from the “stage of life” we were at. Most young guys don’t have a clear idea of what they want for their future, and I’m trying to build the good life over here, so I couldn’t handle dating guys my age.

When we have normal sex issues that most couples have, I try not to project anything onto him, but often I worry about what I’ve heard about men experiencing a drastic loss of testosterone as they enter their 40s, and I worry that our sex life might decline as we get older. I’m dating a guy who is a young 40, but If I’m being perfectly honest, the thought sometimes crosses my mind about whether he’s going to be “up for” the things I want in my future- home ownership, kids, travel, working toward fitness and retirement goals, etc. On the other hand, I like that he is settled into his career and that he takes care of himself and of his things, and in a way I think his age will make him more inclined to build the kind of life it seems like we both want- definitely more inclined than a 25 year old guy whose dating life is all about tinder and themed pub crawls.

But anyway, yeah, for me it’s “a thing.”

Most women prefer men older by like 1 to 7 years. The thing is though, most lump that into the category of "pretty much the same age". If that was the case though, how come there is nowhere near the same amount of relationships where the woman is 1 to 7 years older? I mean its "more or less the same age" right? But it seems like its only considered the same when its the woman dating the older man.

I know very few women who even have male friends that are 2 years younger than them, let alone dating. In every coed social circle I'm a part of just about every man is older than just about every woman.

I never would have been able to attract anyone my age of her caliber, because I didn't have the experiences I had with women then that I do now. I was too thoroughly indoctrinated with Feminism to exude anything more than a loner facade, even though I enjoyed all-male team sports, martial arts, and light lifting. Women don't even want an in-shape beta, they'll hold out for an older out-of-shape beta if they can't find an alpha.

My favorite aunt/uncle couple have a 16 year age gap and have been married for over 50 years. He is now over 90 and she still fawns over him.

He was never wealthy (coal miner/crane operator) and she was a nurse. However, he was incredibly good looking - still looks good for an old man.

Common? Maybe not. It was a family scandal when they got together, but my grandmother told me that was because he was divorced and marrying into a Catholic family moreso than the age gap.

But our parents (not just mine, but their generation) moved to France and with my generation, it happens less and since some of us still have arranged marriage, we still see it.

I live in China which changes things a bit, so my current is 17 years younger and the last few have been 12, 22, 15 and such younger.

Back in Canada I was dating teenagers well into my 20s and as I hit 30 I dated a bunch of women my own age who always got carded because they looked like teenagers.

At 32 I fucked a 19 year old. At 34 I hitched up with an 18 year old and we dragged that out for 2-1/2 years.

Among my closest friends one is married to an older woman and the other 2 are with women a dozen years or more their junior.

It's not that uncommon and depends on the man in question.

If you have age issues, then that is on you.
