Let me help /u/Koffing out a little bit.

Yes, women publish magazines like Cosmo, Dolly, etc on how to dress, how to date and how to do make-up for teenage girls. I remember these magazines from high school. I remember finding them mostly useless.

But a group of men writing a magazine like GQ - how to dress, how to act, how to groom... now that is FRIGHTENING. It's like imagining a giant, flying spider crashing through the roof of your home...

No, wait, I got it confused. It's just normal. It's advertising and magazine sales and consumer discretionary needs all wrapped up in one thing, a division of the media which helps drive the economy albeit at a slower race since the internet boom. Like women's magazines. And dog-owner magazines. And fishing magazines. And car magazines. And... etc.

As for OP, that link was deleted but yes, many people on TBP do find RP stuff morally repugnant. Especially people are new to reddit and realize a vocal minority of people loathe all women personally based on a general principle. This is reinforced by the AWALT rhetoric and bizarre goals for gaming and degrading females as some sort of punishment for personal problems related to interacting in society.

I'm not trying to manipulate you right now, I'm giving you information (my opinion and it's supporting evidence) to give you the choice of what you believe. That is the opposite of manipulation.

If you see every human interaction as manipulation, then that's the most cynical, depressing thing I've ever heard.

Car salesmen can be terribly manipulative, but it's a shame that you think every interaction has to go that way. If you ask for a raise, you should be able to show why you've earned it, not pressure your boss into giving it to you (which doesn't sound like a great way to keep your job, btw).

Manipulation has a very specific definition:

The definition you cited is pulled from a book called Who's Pulling Your Strings ? How to Break The Cycle of Manipulation. Of course a book that paints all manipulation as bad is going to define all manipulation as bad. The actual dictionary definition is neutral:

Manipulation is the skillful handling, controlling or using of something or someone. Whether it's the sculpture you made in art class or how you convinced your friend to do your homework — both are considered manipulation.

The only part of the definition that might be considered objectively bad is the implication that the other party may not have originally been overly enthusiastic about whatever you convinced them to do. However, people often do things they aren't overly enthusiastic about (e.g. eat their veggies), and those things are often far from bad

I can only share my personal experience.

I think there are serious problems with the way men are treated in society, and there are very few good role models for young men trying to fit into the world. It's something I would like to see fixed.

But I disagree that TRP is the answer.

However, TRP claims, by the very nature of its name, that it is the only answer, because it's the truth! It also has a nasty habit of telling everyone who disagrees that if they're successful, they're actually Red Pill and just don't know it.

But in the sidebar is a volume of literature devoted to how stupid, morally inferior, and utterly useless women are to men, and why it's OK to do with them as you please.

So here I am, a straight guy, reading about a subreddit that I don't agree with, will never agree with, and have personal experiences that outright contradict the 'truths' stated in that subreddit, yet that subreddit is actively trying to claim me as one of their own.

No shit I'm going to loudly oppose it.

Does that make the motivations more understandable?

I can't speak for every man who ever read TRP, or posted something there. But, as one of the founders, I can speak about the intent and motivations of those of us who control the tone and direction.

What I'm hearing from you is frustration with your level of representation... you feel like your opinions have not been taken into consideration.

That's something that bothers most people. Whenever and wherever I am in a leadership position, I find that people don't usually become angry about not getting their way, so much they become angry about not being heard, not having their needs and feelings taken into consideration.

But here's where we part ways.

TRP isn't intended to speak for all men, it's intended to speak to all men. You have mistaken words placed in your ears for words placed in your mouth.

The core of TRP has always been praxis. The goal isn't for everyone to believe a particular, well-defined set of things. The goal is to make a big pile of all the experiences and speculations and models and stories that aren't suffered to exist anywhere else, stir them up with a stick, and brew something that young men can use to fix the problems that are important to them.

And it works. It works a lot. It works to the point where it can be regarded as a step-by-step process. Youngsters come in, read, absorb, start acting differently, and they become happier and more fulfilled.

But you're still upset because you don't agree with literally everything that people say in this giant discussion group. Well, of course, you don't. How could you? Some things people say flat out contradict some things others say. There's no neat little package to tie it all up in.

Why not? Because we're beholden to results. If we were making shit up, if we just wanted people to believe things, we could make a neat little story, like "God made the world in six days, and on the seventh, he rested", or "history is defined by the struggle of the proletariat against the exploitation of the bourgeoisie".

But we don't have the luxury of being a cult, that doesn't have to show results, or a cognitive science department with an experiment budget and a lot of PET scanners. We're doing this because no one else is.

You agree that masculinity is in crisis, but you haven't suggested an alternative solution. No one has. Because apart from a few isolated voices like Karen Straughan (/u/girlwriteswhat) and Milo Yiannopoulos, no one outside TRP both acknowledges the problem and cares enough to do anything.

So, the bottom line is... lead, follow, or get out of the way.

Nope, that goes to the first-world middle-to-upper-class men. Seriously, I have a way easier time with everything I do than any woman with an equivalent background and upbringing.

Not true at all. In real life, not here on Reddit, I'm a dorm parent in the evenings and I deal with this stuff every day. Just two weeks ago I sat down one of my students and discussed these issues in person and gave him advice and listened to him.

And still you cannot bear the thought of someone, somewhere, writing something negative about them.

Not it at all. TRP has based it's system on the underlying "fact" that women are inferior, and many of the logical extensions of that "fact" are visible in it's policies: 'sexual strategy is amoral' is a justification for the obviously unethical, manipulative, and downright sleazy tactics; ends-justify-the-means rationalizations of behaviors; saying women stop maturing at the age of 18...

It's ridiculous.

And it's not writing something bad about them, it fosters an attitude of derision and spitefulness toward women. It's the opposite response of what a modern man should be.

Nice try, but no. I've been around the block plenty and have been cheated on, lied to, manipulated, and worse by women. There are awful, horrible, shitty women who would do the world a favor if they no longer existed. I have nothing but contempt for them.

As I eluded to before, I live with students. I'm a mandatory reporter of sexual assault. I've not only gone to college, grown up and gotten married, plus had 10 or so serious girlfriends in my past, I'm still surrounded by young people in the dating scene today.

I've been on the receiving end of rape reports. I've watched my students be torn apart by abuse, bad relationships, and the trials of moving away from home.

It's horrible to watch sometimes, and I care deeply. For you to call my opinions unconsidered is to completely ignore everything I say and do.

My mission is to help disaffected, disenfranchized, disrespected, and disreputed young men. If you don't share that goal, I don't have cargo space for you. Find your own ride.

Your mission is to take the desperate and teach them to bully. Your 'empowerment' is to take advantage of their pain and anger, tell them it's not their fault, that women are secretly evil, and that the best way to get ahead in life is to seek revenge against an entire gender.

You could care less if there were good, smart, kind women in the world. You would still treat them like dirt because of your deep-seated, totally misguided issues toward them. It tells you to take a blow torch to people who don't deserve it.

If you're turning young people onto TRP, you're simply brainwashing them into being your tools of revenge for whatever happened to you in your past.

I wrote those under my previous name in 2014.

Most TRPers have already tried a bunch of other options before going there. No one gets rejected by one girl and goes full-on red pill. It's often the place people go when nothing else has worked. If there was another option that worked half as well as TRP was, TRP would be empty.

I disagree. I think successful people haven't realized that there are so many unsuccessful people and simply haven't written down what they think.

It's what I started doing in 2014, before having to stop for a variety of reasons.

Aside from the obvious exaggeration that they say "it's OK to do with them as you please," this is the exact message that men need to hear. The majority of them have been conditioned to believe that women are the shit, that they are morally superior, and that there is no more noble a goal for a man than seeking the love and approval of a woman. Nothing can more effectively combat this than telling them the exact opposite.

BPers may want to describe the proper way to treat women as "treating women as human beings". Well, in a way, that is exactly what TRP hopes to do by telling men the above. To treat women as mortal beings whose shit stinks, rather than the infallible divinity they have become accustomed to treating them as.

At the end of the day TBP is just mad that this stuff works, TBP thinks that just because it works doesn't mean that it should.

Maybe, my criticisms are different though.

TRP may get you laid, but it makes you pursue the very women that you claimed to hate in the first place. It only leads to sex, and is an awful guide for anyone looking for legitimate relationship advice. It fosters mistrust, and keeps people from forming decent relationships among their own or the opposite gender.

It also encourages men to fake a persona of masculinity and to pretend to know what they're doing, but it doesn't do anything to help people build actual character or skill, which is what is actually necessary to be successful in the world.

Plus, the anti-woman rhetoric is out of date and unnecessary to achieve the stated goals of TRP.

Potential abuser = "an obvious danger."

If you took the time to think through what you're claiming here, you'd see it makes zero sense.

Adults can get frustrated, lose their temper, and refrain from beating their child. That's a huge part of maturing -- learning how to experience emotions without flying completely off the handle like a child. Parents are not perfect angelic beings, especially when they have a young child, a baby, and haven't slept well in ages.

The problem is that none of us have a universal solution. I have the one that worked for me. Others have the ones that worked for them. I've seen people say "the most important thing not to do in a relationship is X" where X is something that saved my relationship. And I am sure that it would be wrong for them but because of who I am it's right for me. TRP works on a specific subset of women which are the ones TRP complains about. If I were to use RP methods on my relationship it would fall apart. Instead I am a complete beta with a girlfriend who is learning MtG and cosplays with me and the reason is that I have my method which worked on that specific girl even though 95% of the time it doesn't.

So basically TBP is not united because most of us don't believe in universal advice beyond the most trite of clichés.
