So over the last few threads I've learned that I had misunderstood what TRP meant by 'hypergamy'. At first I thought it was about promiscuity, but I've now learned it's about how women want 'high quality' men. A decently upvoted comment in TRP summarized it as "women only want the best they can get"

This is something TRP seems to see as a negative trait in women and some posters adamantly denounce it. The part that confuses me is, when did standards become a bad thing? I'm a guy and most guys I know are similar on this, don't we as men do the exact same thing? Why on earth would I sleep with someone that doesn't meet that standard? I wouldn't be there because I wanted to, and I'm not a charity worker. What do I have to gain by sleeping with a girl who I think is ugly? ...sooo yea... Why is this considered a negative female trait?

At least for hooking up, (LTR's play by a different set of rules) didn't this become pretty apparent by high school at the latest? The guys want the hottest girls, The girls want the hottest guys. If you were to construct a hierarchy of some sort, everyone has a cutoff point for who they wouldn't hook up with. Based on those standards people match up all the way down this constructed hierarchy. But at least to me, it seemed obvious that this applied to both sexes fairly equally. So why is this something that's only associated with women on TRP and why is it viewed negatively? We all do it to some degree, don't we?

TLDR: I can't understand how having standards can be viewed as a negative thing.

EDIT: Like this thread here: http://www.reddit.com/r/PurplePillDebate/comments/24jhi8/lets_discuss_fatcurvy_women/ Every one of those women to me are insta-nopes. Why would I, at any point of my life, expect women to not make the same sort of judgments? Even more so, why would this be something I should see negatively? I am confuse.
