Can you offer anything other than anecdotal evidence to support this claim? The top comment is currently heavily anecdotal evidence.

Be careful. Avoid claims like, "Women are more emotional therefore they are like children." You can link to a hundred studies that either support or disprove the claim, "Women are more emotional", however that does not necessarily support your conclusion, "therefore they are like children."

Keep it civil. Don't downvote.

I'll toss in my personal opinion and get things moving. Your comment doesn't necessarily need to reply to my opinion, though. I am mostly interested in compiling accurate information that either proves or disproves that claim. So you can skip this bit if you'd like and get down to the nitty-gritty!

That being said: I know that women are much more empathetic than men, but I do not believe that makes them more emotional. Typically, I think (not all the time) men are more likely to get carried away by their emotions. They're more likely to murder on an impulse, for example. They're more likely to get angry. Yet they also seem to be better at controlling their emotions in situations that they are not already emotionally invested in. Professional investments, such as their jobs and finances, they excel at pursuing objectively. However, when it comes to aspects of their lives they are already emotionally invested in, they seem very, very prone to fly off the handle. A man might throw his PS3 against the wall and shatter it into a million pieces, or kick the shit out of his girlfriend in a fit of rage.

Women, on the other hand, get sad. If something goes wrong, they experience despair more often than frustration. Additionally they seem somewhat emotionally invested in most everything, including areas where this may not be appropriate or productive, such as when choosing a career or compiling a presentation. However, when push comes to shove, [a woman will not let her emotions go so far out of reach that they put her in prison as men so often do.] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_differences_in_crime#In_the_United_States)

I would argue, though, that having to coddle a man who's having a temper tantrum (ladies, I'm sure you've all experienced this PLENTY of times...) is just as childish as having to circumvent a woman's feelings to get to the core of an issue (boys, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about).

And even if all of this is true SOME of the time, there is still in infinite amount of variability among the sexes. Plenty of men are extremely feminine in their emotions while plenty of women are masculine in theirs. I would argue that the standard deviation is so large, it's impossible to say the "majority" of men are better at managing their emotions under stressful situations, or that the "majority" of women are better at empathizing and relating to others. I've met so many different people and know of so many more that I haven't met yet, and an overwhelming number of them do not fit into the traditional gender roles I would usually assign.

Women can suck at empathy and be good at controlling their emotions (a lot of them are). Men can be wonderful sympathizers and yet frequently allow their emotions to spin into a whirl (a lot of them are). SO MANY break away from their traditional gender role, it seems futile to try and apply a single, sweeping generalization to either sex.

Ironically, many Red Pillers admit to being lost in their own anger and confusion. This seems contradictory to their claim that women are the ones who are more emotional.
