I think people are confusing the "traits that attract" with "traits that can ruin attraction if lacking." Posessing good looks actively attracts. Possessing sanity, hygiene, good manners and basic knowledge doesnt attract in itself, but lack of it can ruin attraction. That's not the same thing. When you ask what is attractive, the focus should be on active factors.

Although I'm of the opinion that for women and men both, a huge amount of what we call "looks" is actually at least partly personality. Posture, clothing, grooming, facial expression, even (in the case of Tinder), where you took your pic/ if you could get a friend to take it or had to do it yourself. Personality is a much, much bigger tent than is given credit for.

Looks were important, but because I never went out looking for a ONS the way he came onto me was just as if not more important. If an average looking dude came on really seductive with hot body language and mannerisms he'd have a better chance than that gorgeous guy who awkwardly groped at me or didn't know what to say.

Edit: but then again almost all of my ONSs originated in dark clubs with drugs so take my memory of that period with a grain of salt lol

It's hilarious to me that anyone thinks mothers give their sons any advice whatsoever for getting hookups. Personally, I'd sooner cut my dick off and blend it in a Cuisinart than ask my mom how to get ONS.

Beyond that there are studies that show mothers guide daughters towards "betas" and away from "alphas" (while simultaneously preferring "alphas" for their own relationships). It doesn't seem too far a stretch as a corrolary they would nurture and encourage "beta" characteristics in sons.

Looks aren’t the only important thing for me for sexual interest. But they are pretty majorly important, someone’s gotta be within the range of what I’m attracted to even if they aren’t my ideal type. But personality does come into play to. I tend to be attracted to more emotional, artistic, mutable, passionate, types personality-wise. I’ve been kinda meh about someone but then their personality won me over. But in those cases they were still not far from my type to begin with.

What also matters a lot for a sex partner, equally to looks, is screening a partner to make sure we’re gonna be sexually compatible and they’ll be a good sex partner.

And if they’re an a big asshole, selfish, creepy...etc no matter how cute they are it’s a no from me. Also there are certain personality traits which are turn offs to me and can make someone seem less attractive.

Looks do matter for hookups. And I'd agree with the incls that most women prefer a similar male body type-tall and ripped.

BUT some women are outliers, just like men. Looks matter to me, but I'm a chubby chaser. So when I'm saying looks matter what I really mean is he needs some rolls. Not a dad bod either-the examples of dad bods I have seen are barely chubby. I need a dude to be fat.

So, yes, looks matter to me, but I want to be clear I'm not talking about ripped muscle-head guys.

I bet more women are attracted to not-conventionally attractive dudes than we let on. I try and be pretty vocal about my preferences to encourage other female chubby-chasers to speak up. Men should know women can be freaky and find bodies outside the norm of conventional attractiveness sexy just like dudes can (although I will admit, it probably happens LESS than with men-I still think there are more women not digging the Chad-body than it appears).

I just outright deny the physical looks/personality thing. Your personality will determine the way you walk, carry yourself, dress and even take pictures. Attractive looking men typically have attractive personalities too, and their personalities determine how they will physically appear in most cases. I find this male exceptionally attractive looking. He clearly takes care of himself, has a stance that shows he is confident(not needy) and he seems to care about things because he expresses that in the way he dresses. If he was some milquetoast needy weirdo, he would not even look that way in the first place.

I do not do one night stands at all, but if I did I would want to have sex with someone who I know is not going to want to wear my skin and someone who I know is going to be fun to be around. There are some cases where attractive looking men have bad “personalities” just as there are cases where obese people have strong hearts. But just off strict probably this is rare and impractical to focus on.

I would say the personality is more(most) important, and I think most women know this, but the way someone looks directly affects this. I think a lot of women would rather be with a 5/10 looking man who is great for a casual sexual encounter than a 10/10 looking man who is just all around awful. I also think if you switched the brains of a person with an awful personality into an attractive body, they would not maintain the body or the style, and if you did the inverse the attractive person would not wallow around feeling sorry for themselves and find a way to make themselves look more appealing. This is the reason why I deny this distinction and think the looks matter, but that is not what really matters.

A man can have a look, a vibe or a presence that just makes you want to have sex with him. It’s not only looks.
