Reports are already coming in that this "promotes hate."
Gentlemen, at least try to have some self awareness.

They don’t care.
[–]BusinessPrint154 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
That's asking quite a lot

[–]Cityshy18 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
How on Earth can anyone interpret this as hate instead of simple truth?! Hate is the double standard imposed on women daily, and the total lack of effort to have any self awareness that these types of 'men' make.
[–]wolfie3796 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Sounds like the (high-heeled) shoe pinches when it's on the other foot.
Even if it were "promoting hate", there are some cases where hate needs to be promoted in order to shit down disgusting antisocial behaviour. For example, dumping raw sewage into a river where the town downstream gets its drinking water, blasting (c)rap at 150 decibels in a residential neighbourhood at midnight, supporting Trump...

Im so used to hearing about women being told to cover up that this was weird to read. The sexism and double standards are so abundant you dont even realise it
[–]ThatOneCuteNerdyGirlFDS Apprentice143 points144 points145 points 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
We’ve seriously been so conditioned to this since literally childhood. It’s awful.
[–]SmolderoFDS Newbie148 points149 points150 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
it's really trippy to think about. i used to have this sense that women are naturally more attractive and beautiful than men are. And now i see it's just because girls and women are sexualized nonstop from such a young age that it's ingrained in our heads that they should be viewed in such a way.
Men could be way more physically attractive if they tried, but they rarely do because their entire worth is not based on how pretty they are.

Gay men helped break the patriarchal religion I grew up in.
If they can be pretty and take care of themselves then why is mr. Beer Gut #3 expecting his wife to care for their 5 kids and look 22? While looking every inch of unmaintained, unhealthy and older than he actually is?

That is an objective fact.

maybe it is true and women's more feminine features are more conventionally attractive. but I'm sure the way our society sexualizes young women has a huge part in how we perceive male and female beauty.

A great litmus test I do to determine whether anything is weird, uncomfortable and/or sexist is to swap the genders and ask, does this read as ridiculous or patronizing now?
The above passage, ridiculous.
The way women are described in media or in books, make it a man and suddenly it’s bizarre and inappropriate. For example, focusing on their appearances, using creepy sexualizing language (“breasted boobily” and other stuff you see on r/ menwritingwomen, or in non-fiction, commenting on a female politician’s clothes and hair as though that’s at all relevant to her politics), using only their first names while saying Mr. Smith or referring to them only in relation to the men in their lives in articles (“said the soft-spoken wife and mother of two”).
[–]Equal-Ear2312FDS Apprentice6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You dotted the i's, especially with the overused: "wife and mother" part in the articles. It seems something rotten happened to journalism because that is the usual template I see when there's an article about a woman: -always first name -is she a wife? -is she a mother?
No article about a man starts off like: Mark, young father of 3 found XYZ...

God no, onions and garlic are the start of something delicious in many cuisines. They’re the foundation of flavor. Don’t insult onions by comparing them to men.

A pearl is an oyster's way of trying to deal with an irritant. From that POV, men are definitely like pearls - an irritant that's been covered up to try to make it less intolerable.

I'll never forget wearing shorts one hot day as a young teen to school. Just normal shorts. Then a teacher started screaming for me to come over to measure them from my knee to were they started. She yelled in front of everyone they were an inch or something too short. I got in trouble. She made me feel dirty and disgusting as a kid. School dress codes are 100% against girls. A teen boy literally has to wear a shirt with a swastika or something to get in trouble.
[–]yolosunshineFDS Newbie17 points18 points19 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I was given lit to read about how I had to guard my insanely valued yet worthless tempting vessel. By obsessing over my clothing in any and all scenarios.
They were right—about having to be careful around boys not taught consent or respect.
[–]wolfie379FDS Newbie10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Football culture anyone? In some schools, it's traditional to let the team wear their jerseys in school on game days. Some schools also allowed the cheerleaders to wear their uniforms in school on game days - but some got clamped down on because the skirts were "indecently short".
Excuse me? If a skirt is indecently short when the wearer is representing herself to her classmates, how is it appropriate when she's representing the school and being put on display in front of adult menmen who have reached legal age?
[–]KindredMaximusFDS Newbie8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is why, in Australia, I love compulsory uniforms. No worrying about clothing. My girls chose to wear the boys uniform in primary and high school. Shorts and a shirt, throughout their schooling. This was allowed and conformed to the dress code.

It’s funny reading that, but in all seriousness imagine a world where women behaved in a way that warranted men protecting themselves from us... my first instinct might be to teach our girls not to be ravenous disrespectful shits to the opposite sex.

They sit with their bulges on display ! As if they want people to check it out!
Keep your knees together, men. Have some self respect.
It seems men take more and more space these days. Be it body fat, be it the way they spread themselves on a seat in public transportation. I always shuddered when they would bump their elbow into my side or worse, when I could feel the heat of their legs because they spread. It is not a demand of phisyology, no it's not because their testicles "need" the space. Funny but that bs. Here you go

I’m not up for shaming anyone over consensual acts, but if a guy’s been around the block too many times or had too many, let’s say “casual” relationships, my yikes meter kicks in. Is he okay? Does he respect himself? I don’t mean anything like save sex for marriage, I just like a guy that wants to wait and see if he likes a person first.

While they're at it, they should stop exposing their toes too. Not because it's slutty...because it looks awful.
[–]CutiejeaFDS Newbie31 points32 points33 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Id like to add same goes for those who do enjoy covering up. I like wearing pants and long sleeves cuz they’re comfortable and I have people suggesting to “lose some layers” because
reads more dumb notes
“For someone who has a figure like yours shouldnt have to cover it all up”.
Buddy... stop. No. Let me wear comfy clothes that can protect me from cancer (figuratively and literally... gotta love Australia)
[–]Equal-Ear2312FDS Apprentice2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Just imagine how sick it would be if women would start telling men that they shouldn't cover their figure.
" Why don't you wear something more fitting? you have a nice figure."
How will that be met, I wonder?
People in general think that they are somehow ow allowed to an opinion about someone's choice of clothes especially on women. Also people think they are allowed to touch women especially when they're pregnant (remember people who stop on the street when someone has a dog and wants to pet it?) as if they are now part of public property.

[–]pikkpieFDS Newbie1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Lmao tellthem!
My brothers make all of their daughters wear leggings or shorts under their dresses. On one hand I hate that. But on the other hand we all know how creepy men can be and it is a safety precaution. I also wear shorts under my dresses and have for many years. I hate that we live in a society where I feel the need to do that.
