This is what happened with my ex. We were in a relationship, things were moving along well, etc. he randomly breaks up with me, saying he was worried that in 2 years time when we are going to grad school we might end up in different places even though we were both in the same area for at least the next 2 years. So he essentially undid the commitment. He kept saying if we end up nearby for grad school we should get back together. He kept staying heavily in touch, basically no difference in texting and even calling sometimes than when we were in a relationship. I would end contact here and there but he would always be pretty persistent in getting back in touch. Conversations were never sexual, we met in person a few times also not sexual at all. I don’t think any other women were in the picture during this time according to our mutual friends. I had a boyfriend for a little while but it didn’t last. Anyway we recently stopped talking after I called his behavior cowardly, I think he is gone for good now. This post brings up a harsh truth that I wish I understood earlier so I didn’t waste 2 years post break up continuing to talk to him. It’s funny because I might actually still end up in a school nearby. But I don’t think that was the true reason for the break up, he probably just didn’t find me a perfect fit but wanted my attention and validation until someone “better” comes along. Regardless, I would never ever get back with him.

If a man doesn’t want to commit, he’s just interested in sex and will dump you at the first chance he finds someone “better” or doesn’t want to bother with you anymore. Raise your standards! You deserve more than a might-be relationship.

Yeah stringing someone along is shitty and yeah people shouldn't do that. eventually ya gotta learn that guys will pretty much do or say anything to get in to your pants. I'm 28 and just learned this hard truth to swallow. I feel so naive, but also more empowered because I know not to give myself to a person who is not invested in getting to know me or willing to commit to me.

The one time I ever had sex with someone I wasn’t in a relationship with was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. He strung me along for months and made me feel like he liked me so much but then didnt want anything but to ‘have fun’ and thinking I could make him fall in love with me (LOL) i kept having casual sex with him and ofc falling deeper in infatuation or whatever it was. I have severe abandonment issues from C-PTSD/abusive relationships (i had just gotten out of one before him too so I was extremely vulnerable) and I told him to please be honest with me about his feelings bc I knew in my gut that at some point if he didnt fall in love (again, lol) and want me to be his gf that he’d prob ghost me bc I knew rationally that he was a fuckboy. And ofc that’s exactly what he did. One night we were hanging out and he was super affectionate and even said ‘im in it for the long haul’ and then he ghosted me for a week after which he texted me some bs about how great I was but he has so many issues and cant be in a relationship. This man took me out for my bday after only knowing me for a month and spent 300$ on me! BUT YOU DONT WANT ANYTHING SERIOUS??? The fallout of this was so bad that I had to leave college for a bit and start intensive therapy and I got heavily into substance abuse. I got my revenge though..a year later, he hit me up and suddenly was all over me and wanted to see me before he left back to his hometown (he was down here for college). I was like I...you rly want one last fuck session before you leave??? The NERVE. So I led him on and when he showed up I was so grossed out by him, ignored him all night, and ditched him. How the turn tables...and I def learned an important lesson.

This type of behaviour is just shitty and fuck up. If you know you never want to date this person or marry them then stop stringing them along. I find it fuck up on all levels and it's just cruel to use someone attraction or emotions for you to take advantage of them. Thank god nowadays I don't get to attached to someone who not even my boyfriend. This stringing always happens and it really impacts your self esteem after you two stop talking for good.

😅 I may have laughed...but only because this was so very true. Pay attention to those red flags so you dont step onto a land mine. Save yourself the grief that you will inevitably feel when you've realized that all the time, energy and effort you poured into a man that isnt worth it (LVM) doesnt mean a damn thing to them and is a waste for you.

One of the big things I needed to figure out in my first relationship. 6 months of "let's not make this official", then a sudden "we're not seeing other people so we're official by default", after which the entire relationship went to shit.

I’m glad you are I totally understand how you feel! It’s different for me I’m in my 30a and wasted my 20s trying to meet someone and didn’t enjoy what I couldn’t be doing with my friends so on. And looking back I was with the wrong type of guys! And now I’ve realised that in my early 30s so I’m taking a break... and also corona hasn’t helped. So seriously while you are young enjoy it the right person will be right but keep your eyes peeled for the love bombers... the disrespectful ones so on... I gave people chances even when they were disrespectful don’t make the same mistakes I did 💗
