You know how there is a "half your age plus 7" rule for men dating younger women? There really should be an equivalent for women who are on the older side to give them a better estimate of their options. I doubt any self-respecting, 48 year old, "mature" man would date a 54 year old woman.

Not that women can't date younger. I used to be open to seriously dating women up to 7 years older than me when I was in my 20s. Now that I'm in my mid-30s, women in their 40s are a non-starter.

I'm 61, and it's very hard to date at this age. You think it would be easier as there are more single women than men, but the problem is the women are just set in their ways. They have their kids and grandkids and their puttering around the house, and they want the man to fit into their lives.

If you are long-term married then the kids are 'our' kids, the grandkids are 'our' grandkids and it's a completely different thing. But the woman wants me to go to 'her' grandkids birthdays, 'her' kids events. Long-term relationships are impossible at this age.
