Surely that would be a 23% discount.

[–][deleted] 181 points182 points183 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Male privilege is being good with numbers.

Reminded of Norm Macdonald

I mean, that guy was a real jerk.

[–]Settlers6 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I get the reference :)

[–]turntheradioup 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

it just doesn't have the same ring to it without calling him shitlord. Maybe ive been hanging out in TIA too much though.

[–][deleted] 71 points72 points73 points 11 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

The patriarchy has been forcing them out of math classes for years, give them a break.

[–]chocoboat 19 points20 points21 points 11 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Only the OP said "77% discount".

[–]patiofurnature 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Yeah. We know. Hence the joke.

[–]chocoboat 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

The joke was that feminists are bad at math. But was it was OP, not feminists, who called it a 77% discount, so the joke doesn't work.

[+]baskandpurr[🍰] -7 points-6 points-5 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Rhetorically '77% discount' is OK, its just phrasing. The price is discounted by 23% but as a discount it represents 77% of the price.

[–]chocoboat 16 points17 points18 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I disagree, I think almost everyone sees "77 percent discount" as meaning "The price is lowered by 77 percent".

[–]captain_craptain 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes

[–]patiofurnature -5 points-4 points-3 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

That doesn't make it wrong. It's phrasing. If someone says they brushed their teeth, you'll assume they brushed all of their teeth. If they only brushed 3 of their teeth, they aren't a liar. It's just a misleading statement.

[–]chocoboat 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

In that case, the original statement of "I brushed my teeth" is still true, even though some people will misinterpret it.

In the previous case, "77 percent discount" is not true in any way. That makes it wrong.

[–]patiofurnature -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No. You didn't read the earlier comment or you're just ignoring it. When you read it as the name of the discount, it works fine. 'Local bar has a Seventy Seven Percent discount where drinks are 23% off for women. '

[–]oscillating000 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

discount

Syllabification: dis·count

Pronunciation: /ˈdiskount/

Definition of discount in English:

noun

1A deduction from the usual cost of something, typically given for prompt or advance payment or to a special category of buyers:

[–]TerdMuncher 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It would. All the men should be asking the women to buy them all their drinks too, because sexism.

[–]jb_trp 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why would any woman pay for a drink (even at a 23% discount) when they could just find some man to exercise their "privilege" and drink for free?

[–]modern_rabbit 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Math be hard.

[–]darwinsaves 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well sure, when you mansplain it like that.

[–]booszhius 103 points104 points105 points 11 years ago (32 children) | Copy Link

Regarding the bar and club scene, why is this necessary for women? Don't they already get "Ladies' Nights" with discounts, no cover, et cetera?

I've never gotten a discount anywhere simply because I'm a guy....unless I haven't fully inventoried my "privileges".

[–]InWadeTooDeep 82 points83 points84 points 11 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

The entire point is to attract women who attract men who spend money on women, this just sounds better than "Hot girls wanted."

[–]Demonspawn 70 points71 points72 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

If you're getting something for free, YOU are what's being sold.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes, but sometimes you pay by other means, and you're still the customer. You can pay with your time, your attention, your presence even.

Before selling you they need to buy you. They buy you with their service. In this case, with 23% of drink costs.

[–]captain_craptain -4 points-3 points-2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You wot?

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points34 points 11 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I'd actually go to bars and clubs if they made women stand on a scale and charge ones over 150lbs more at the door. If men have to pay more, we should be around prettier women.

[–]Jetshadow 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This kinda screws over tall women.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Tall women that arent attracted to shorter men already screwed themselves over.

[+]captain_craptain -8 points-7 points-6 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Right, because no woman over 150 pounds are attractive and all men are into stick figures with big fake tits. Personally I like thicker girls and a personality is a must. I've found that super skinny club girls like you're describing are typically vapid and shallow. I want a girl I can actually respect I guess, not just arm candy.

My two cents.

[–]B_uckets 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I've found that super skinny club girls like you're describing are typically vapid and shallow.

I've found that guys who say this are typically too fat and ugly to get the attention of skinny club girls.

Also, who the fuck goes to clubs for the deep conversation?

[–]captain_craptain -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's why I don't go to clubs. I'm not some Guido loser who is looking for Jersey Shore girls.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The majority of men are. I think it more important to discuss the vast majority of men when talking in such general terms.

But go ahead you go and like fat chicks, that's fine too.

[–]captain_craptain 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I never said I wasn't attracted to them, just that I wouldn't date them. I didn't say fat either I said thick, as in a normal body size.

[–]IVIaskerade 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I want a girl I can actually respect I guess

That says more about your attitudes than it does about the women you're meeting in the club.

It's not evidence because it's anecdotal, but having spoken to a number of “club girls" in settings outside of clubs, they've generally been decent conversation, certainly no worse than a majority of the population.

[–]captain_craptain 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Fair enough, I have nothing to go on except my perceptions since I don't go clubbing. I don't think I'd like anyone in that scene to be honest.

The atypical portrayal of a club girl is ditzy, vapid, stupid and self involved above all else. That is not attractive to me no matter how skinny they are or how perfect their ass is or how nice their tits are. Would I fuck them? Yes absolutely, but my hooking up days are gone.

I was really trying to make the point that 150 seems like a harsh number since there are plenty of girls over that who look fucking amazing.

[–]IVIaskerade -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have nothing to go on except my perceptions since I don't go clubbing.

If you don't go clubbing, you don't have perceptions. You have prejudices.

I don't think I'd like anyone in that scene to be honest.

That's fine, but I would point out that this is a self-perpetuating notion. Don't go clubbing if you don't want to, but to disparage the girls that do enjoy it as vapid and devoid of meaningful conversation without actually having.

I was really trying to make the point that

I know what you were trying to say, but you should find a way to say it that doesn't involve putting down the other group. That's what the fat acceptance movement does, it's what feminism does, and I don't want it to be what the MRM does.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Those thick girls you like hang out at Mcdonalds.

[–]speakingofsegues 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In other words, still objectifying women.

[–]chocoboat 25 points26 points27 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

It's actually a nefarious MRA plan to fool feminists. Instead of getting drinks for free, now women are paying 77% of the cost! /s

[–]-Fender- 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

That could actually make a lot of sense for a business. Especially if they're located close to a university.

[–]papajawn42 -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

So you're saying this was a business decision?

[–]-Fender- 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Of course it was a business decision, what else could it be? And the only reason that they would make that decision now, of all times, can only be because they have decided to board that gender wage gap myth bandwagon that's been going around in the news and university campuses like wildfire for the past couple weeks.

The only question that remains is whether they decided to board that bandwagon because they were self-aware enough to realize that a lot of people with feminist tendencies would gobble that crap up, or if they boarded it out of a misguided sense of humanitarianism.

[–]papajawn42 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Regardless of the gender pay gap being debunked, I'm sure you can agree this is a business setting prices in accordance with the interests of its stakeholders, right?

[–]-Fender- 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I can't say whether or not that particular bar has any stakeholders. All that I can say is that they are either opportunists, or oblivious.

[–]papajawn42 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Any business has stakeholders: the people who rely on the business for their financial security, the community it serves, and its clientele, and in this instance, "Ladies Night" serves them well. The rest is just marketing, whether the club buys its own shtick or not.

[–]Lucius_Martius 11 points12 points13 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't you go to the secret patriarchy meetings in the strip clubs?

All the money we save by paying women these 23 cents less goes into a pot for free drinks and free objectification for every male. Clearly by some mistake you haven't got your invitation... just send me your address and I'll fix that for you.

[–]CornyHoosier 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're 100% correct. There are probably better "Ladies Night" bars down the street, so this place is trying to draw a crowd from controversy.

They're hoping women are too stupid to figure that out.

[–]deadalnix 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you say hot drunk girl wanted, you'll get all the feminists in the street. If you say you want to fight the wage gap, you to have all the feminists do promo for you, and at the end, you'll have the intended result : hot drunk girl in your bar.

[–]nuesuh 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just inform the bartender that you identify yourself as a woman. If that doesn't work, sue them.

It's the age of SJW's. Use it or lose it.

[–]aawillma 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've never gotten a discount anywhere simply because I'm a guy

You are missing out on some fabulous gay clubs my friends. Sadly that's about it.

[–]Swiggy 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's not necessary, it's pandering.

[–]booszhius 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It was a rhetorical question.

[–]R50cent 45 points46 points47 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I had no idea women were buying their own drinks now.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They are paying for drinks the amount men are paid more. If my math is correct. That doesn't make any sense, is wrong in the first place, and this is fucking dumb...

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He is playing on the fact that women can go out with only money for a taxi and still come home drunk because guys pay for their drinks in the hopes of getting to fuck them.

[–][deleted] 67 points68 points69 points 11 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

AKA "we're too cheap to host a normal ladies-drink-free night" so let's try a gimmick

[–]Raunien 13 points14 points15 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Normally I'd complain about the sexism in "ladies drink free" nights that don't have corresponding one for men, but I've just had a great idea.

Game the system by going to one of these nights with a woman, and then never go to the bar yourself.

Edit: I accidentally a word

[–]ThePedanticCynic 12 points13 points14 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

There's a bar in my town that's $10 cover, everyone drinks free all night. No ladies night. No men's night. Just give 'em your $10 and enjoy. Only bar i go to on nights where 'ladies drink free' and the like. Always has plenty of women.

Great idea, too.

[–]GravityBlasteroid 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Where on earth is this bar, and how can they afford to have such a ridiculous sale?? I cant imagine how they make any money off of that..

[–]smokeybehr 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Crappy beer and watered down drinks.

[–]cheezehead4lyfe 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's a bar like that where I live. My friend and I both got physically thrown out of the bar once we drank "too much"

[–]Raunien 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

How do they make a profit on that?

[–]ProphetChuck 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They buy the cheapest brands in bulk including faulty products from factories (printed wrong serial number, or incorrect use by date etc). I bet any money they still charge regular prices for juices and fizzy drinks. I worked in one them once.

[–]CatManDontDo 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There was a bar like that near me and it burned down so they made some profit on the fire insurance.

[–]Eoje 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Which is really ironic, since you'd be sitting on your ass while they fetch you drinks. This is, if I'm not mistaken, encouraging the exact kind of dehumanizing of women feminism wants to oppose. What crock!

[–]MonkeyCB 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I did that. Got a few strange looks from the owner/manager/bouncers. But they couldn't really do anything about it, so that's that.

[–]Swiggy 23 points24 points25 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The sub set demographic of women who show up for this promotion probably earn more than men. But since they insists on using the 77% figure, facts don't matter to them anyway.

[–]bsutansalt 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The sub set demographic of women who show up for this promotion probably earn more than men.

Not probably, it's a known fact that they do. Young childless women (their target demographic) in large metropolitan areas (where this is at) on average make 8% more than their male peers.

[–]michaeladams94 21 points22 points23 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Yeah this is a great idea because the societal stigma about women in bars is totally that they are being taken advantage of due to the gender wage gap, making it more difficult for them to pay, not that they don't fucking pay for drinks in the first place. /s

[–]ulthrant82 19 points20 points21 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Why the sarcasm tag? I worked in a bar for several years. Not only do they often not pay for their drinks, they outright -expect- men to provide them with free drinks. Often times going to the club with only enough money to pay for coat check and not tip (mostly because the coat check person is usually female and won't be manipulated). I'm by far not saying all women do this, but a disproportionate number of them do. They'd often come right up to the bar and say "give me a free vodka soda." The audacity of this type of person is staggering.

[–]michaeladams94 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Well I just added the sarcasm tag in case people don't pick up on the (rather thinly veiled) sarcasm. It's like a trigger warning for people without a sense of humor. Or, how I'd like to call it, a trigger warning.

[–]ulthrant82 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I hear ya. That '/s' has turned into a protection from hissy fits from people who can't handle an opinion or viewpoint different than their own. It's a little depressing how easily people can get offended on Reddit these days.. :/

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think the tag only makes sense if you ended at "making it more difficult for them to pay". But you ended on, "not that they don't fucking pay for drinks in the first place" which tells me at least your point. The sarcasm tag just confuses the last line to me.

[–]michaeladams94 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"The stigma is not that they don't pay for drinks in the first place" would still be a sarcastic statement, though.

[–]Tmomp 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Want equality?

How about

  • Make women stand in line to get in while you let guys in
  • Charge women more entrance fee
  • Let men in the VIP area preferentially
  • Restrict women from the VIP room preferentially
  • Have special nights where men don't pay
  • Give the female staff heavier labor
  • Give male staff lighter labor
  • Make the bouncers who handle potentially violent guests female

[–]td9red 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Only problem with your plan is women simply won't come. The bar is in the business to make money. Men like to go to bars more than women just like men enjoys sports more than women.

[–]michaeladams94 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't necessarily think I agree with that statement. Men - on average - like sports more. But sports channels primarily cater to the male audience with advertisements for cars, beer commercials, etc. By that logic, ladies nights shouldn't exist, because men like to go to bars more, women don't. The reality is that men prefer going to bars where there's a lot of women, and anyone with half a brain would prefer going to a bar where getting drinks is cheaper. Since the dynamic of men paying for women in order to get talking exists, it is in a bar's best interest to cater to women primarily, because they know that men don't mind spending the 10 bucks for companionship, while women don't want to end up having to pay 30 bucks because nobody ended up buying.

[–]zodiacecks 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

In some states, this is illegal.

[–]llamabomb 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's super-easy to get around these laws though.

[–]kragshot 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Intelligent marketing can easily circumvent this and make the bar/club a profit as well.

(Note...I have done this for a nightclub.)

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Step 1: 23% discount.

Step 2: about 200% average customer count.

Step 3: about 200% tips

Yeah. This guys a geneous. Anyone who thinks this is about "raising awareness" or anything other than getting their money is just getting played.

[–]theJigmeister 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think they meant to say "Women deserve better than men."

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

I dont understand how it is legal to charge a different amount for the same thing to different people.

Oh you have a penis and want a shot? $5 please! Oh you have a vagina and want a shot? $4 please!

This doesn't make any fucking sense.

Bars have been doing this for decades, they just used to call it "Ladies' Night" rather than trying to pander to the gender-studies types.

You ever use Gmail, Youtube, Hotmail, etc.. Any "free" service, really, and someone tells you "you're not the customer, you're the product?"

Same idea. If free/cheaper drinks or cover bring women in, more men will come to meet these women and pay full price and more. They're just bait.

[–]Kuato2012 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ladies' night but repackaged with a shiny bow of moral superiority for the dim witted. The main difference being: would you really want to meet any of the women this particular night attracts?

[–]IVIaskerade 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

On the plus side, it keeps them out of the rest of the bars.

[–]Imnotmrabut 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We need a Woozle Cocktail to serve up!

[–]electricalnoise 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup. Gimmick.

[–]DrDoSoLittle 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Woooo, get blackout drunk! That'll show people you're empowered!

[–]such-a-mensch 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was at a bar a few years ago running one of those stupid ladies night specials where high balls were $0.10 for a girl but regular price for a guy.

I spent the night hitting on girls getting them to buy me drinks for a dime. After more than a handful of trips to the bar, one of the bartenders noticed and refused to give the girl either drink haha.

I left that night with as much money as I walked in with and a few phone numbers. I'm all in favor of promotions like this, we just need to learn to use them to our advantage.

[–]cuteman 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

1) Ladies nights are usually free

2) When they're not a significant number of women expect men to buy their drinks

3) 23% discount isn't significant

4) Bartenders complain about having to calculate an 23% discount and it quickly fails.

[–]KngpinOfColonProduce 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

A machine can calculate the new cost with one button press. That's trivial.

[–]cuteman 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not all bars have digital pos systems.

I assumed anywhere antiquated enough to do idiotic marketing schemes like this wouldn't.

[–]lazydonovan 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They'll just have a chart printed up for the bartenders.

[–]Raudskeggr 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Marketing once again exploiting political bullshit. Whatever.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But I don't work. I'm a student, I have a student loan. Which is the same as female students get. But I have to pay more for my beer because I have a penis? In the name of gender equality? I don't understand.

[–]govt_took_my_baby 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What difference would it make? It's not like women are buying 50% of the drinks anyway

[–]megapoopfart 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That also mean that men will have an equal chance at getting laid?

[–]MJZMan 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ladies Night used to mean free drinks. Inflation, I guess.

[–]RedditorJemi 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And in all likelihood the female bartenders at this shitty bar make twice the tips of their male counterparts.

[–]Folsomdsf 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

seriously, women buy drinks at bars? They already are the controlling force at a bar. You get women to go to the bar because men will follow and they spend money. This is how you run a bar 101.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Why do they need a discount? It's not like they pay for all their drinks, and some don't pay for a single one.

[–]Trail_of_Jeers 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. The Bars won't suffer for this ploy

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its not like women are even buying drinks.

[–]linkmebro 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is more about getting chicks in a bar than womens rights

[–]Trail_of_Jeers 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Bars know that if you bring in women, men will follow. They aren't dumb.

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

People far too often confuse leveling the playing field with fixing the score at the end of the game.

[–]Il128 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This discount is stupid because attractive women never buy drinks anyway.

[–]scarecrow569_ 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

With the crowd that would attract I can see the line out of the local police station at 10am the next day now. Shoes in hand with such conviction to take back the night.

[–]nrjk 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Is the name of the bar The White Night?

[–]Jesus_marley 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have no problem with this as long as they receive a commensurate amount of alcohol to go along with the price.

[–]AtomicBLB 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sad to see a place throwing money away on a lie.

[–]A_DERPING_ULTRALISK 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This sounds like the setup to a joke.

So Caitlyn Jenner walks in to a bar...

[–]notacrackheadofficer 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It would be fun to announce a drag queen contest on social media at any bar that pulls this shit.

[–]bsutansalt 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hey babe, lets go out tonight. You're buying :)

[–]Jazzeki 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

i'd ask them why they don't just pay the women that works for them what they pay the men that works for them.

"Prospect Heights’ “Doctor Who”-themed bar and live music space, the Way Station, is charging every woman 77 percent the cost of every drink."

It's almost as if a Doctor Who themed bar was having trouble luring in women.

To be clear I'm not putting the show down at all, I just don't think it attracts many women

[–]IVIaskerade 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I just don't think it attracts many women

Are you kidding? David Tenant and Matt Smith are pretty much single-handedly responsible for a huge female fanbase.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

sight...

[–]NUMBERS2357 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not that I'd go to such a bar, not just for gender stuff but for their math making no sense. But if I was there with a group, I'd get one of the girls we were with to buy me a drink, and pay her back anyway.

[–]satisfyinghump 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The comments posted in response to the article are awesome. I'm remembering comments left from a similar article a few years back, and they weren't as opposing to the article as these are.

More and more people are educating themselves, and finding out that the wage gap is a myth, thats spouted by politicians trying to get the female vote, and random SJW's on college campuses, maybe even a few HR managers.

Hopefully it will die out, I just hope it doesn't cause too much damage that will need to be fixed.

Cool, that means I'm only contributing to 77% of rounds.

When was the wage gap debunked?

The moment it was uttered... TL;DR, it takes data and compares basically all men's income to all women's income. It fails to take into account type of work, hours worked, overtime worked, tenure, etc... So a simple thing, like showing men work more hours, as done here, debunks it.
