My x gets 3750 a month in spousal support for 49 more months. I have full custody of both of our kids, 16. &18. She is paying me 900 in child support until my son graduates in a couple of months then 600 until My daughter graduates in 2 years.

Her, the judge, the lawyers, the mediators, the court clerk's, the attorney ad litem, the bailiff, and everyone else sees you walking around with a big cash symbol floating above your head... And their only goal is to get whatever part of that cash they can. The needs of your child don't matter whatsoever to any of them, it's basically an open secret that nobody even tries to hide. No child (minus special circumstances) requires $3700 a month, my kid costs $150 each month yet I pay his mother $2k, and he's much better with me than her because she won't work and yet still won't cook him food. The more I make the more she gets. She's apparently has no obligation to work, yet I am penalized for working harder. My ex also claims medical issues. My lawyer asked the judge to order her to submit her medical records to the court, the judge denied the request... So she didn't have to prove a single thing to the judge while I had to prove that I could pay my part of the child support (i.e. financial affidavit with tax documents) so I could get 50/50 custody.

Sorry for the rant, I just absolutely hate the system, the calculator, and the way men are treated. Talk to a lawyer, don't let her take a cent more than she deserves.

Child support awards (look at that word - "award..." It's a prize) have no relation to the cost of raising children.

Time to pull the reverse uno card.

If she cant physically work, than she cant take care of the kid.I would go full blast on her, lawyers are expensive but so is nearly 4k a month for a leech that only wants to profit.

Look online. Most states have a calculator. Don’t fall in to the trap of paying her because u have the ability and it makes u feel good because u can. Pay what is fair and what the court expects u to pay.

There should be guidelines as a percent of your net income. Don't be lazy here - if you don't want to do the math - pay someone to do it.

Wait a second. She’s unable to work? How is she going to support herself? Who will be paying her medical insurance? Is she also expecting alimony?

As you’re well aware of, child support is suppose to be for the care of the child. If she has no income, couldn’t you argue that you fear the $3,700 a month won’t be going solely to to the care of your child?

Google "your state" and "child support calculator". Each state has one.

It factors in both incomes, parenting time, health insurance costs, and then any other child care costs (if any).

That is what will show you the correct amount.

I’m a reconciling woman consider divorce. We have children. I work full time and he’s collecting unemployment. If we separate, he will have to pay me $500/mo in spousal support and $1600-2000 per month for CS for three kids under 18 yrs. which equates to $22.22 per day per child financial support. I believe that’s a reasonable request. We will split 50/50 everything else. $3,700/month though, for one child? That seems incredibly high.

I pay $4k a month. She is an alcoholic and I left her (among other reasons). She “couldn’t find work” and then miraculously found a job right after the divorce was settled, so her imputed income was next to nothing.

I'm right there with ya, man. Fortunately, the ex is playing nice with me, for now - she works, making 60% of what I do and has me only paying her 1k$/mo in child support, though the state would say I should owe her like 2.5k$/mo which is patently ridiculous since that's more than she spends with everything included... even on her mortgage.

Regarding your ex, I'd push hard on the disability preventing her working. If she's truly unable to work, how is she then able to care for the child? With the child at school most of the time, there's no way the kid needs 3.7k$/mo.

If you aren't paying spousal support then her ability to work or not doesn't matter. It isn't your obligation to support HER it's your obligation to support your child. Child support is designed to (fleece you) make sure both homes are somewhere near equal but in the event you're on the richer side it doesn't make sense to have you pay for a mansion for her just because you happen to be rich. Your child isn't a windfall...

Your attorney should be helping you defend against this.

Depends on the state. Some states like texas and Nevada have caps on CS. If you're in CA and you make 15k/mon that might be somewhat likely.

Its a calculation, legal counsel will use your monthly - your case sound like you'll be paying the max - but its based on kids i.e. 29% for 3 children. SO like 10% per kid

Alimony that's a different story - I dont pay that in Texas

That’s a lot! Even if it’s not for you. If your spouse can’t work she needs to file for disability. Also, rather than pay her money to sit around…maybe offer to pay her tuition to go back to school and learn how to do something that she can support herself on.

Can’t tell you how many women are in the dating pool living off alimony. It’s ridiculous!

You’re better off having those kids fulltime. Daycare is going to be $1000-$1200 a month per kid. Hopefully yours are in school.
