I know this is largely due to aggression towards or around the dogs, but for those just dipping their toes into the sea of male depravity: bestiality is uncomfortably common.

It’s one of the things men still have the decency to be ashamed of at the very least, so it’s not often talked about, but it’s an insidious thing. I went to secondary school in various countries and one of the few consistent hobbies I had was volunteering with animals. It was common to test abandoned or surrendered pets for this specific type of abuse, and not only that, but I would tell men in conversation about volunteering with animals, and a good 40% have either insinuated I did or outright asked if there were any sexual scenarios with those animals (particularly big dogs 🤢).

If a man ever gives you weird vibes about his relationship to animals in any capacity, please know that well of red flags can run very, VERY deep.

I've never put two and two together til reading this, it's heartbreaking. Dogs are like emotional sponges of their people, it makes a lot of sense that a vast proportion of dogs have a fear of male aggression, whether directly or just as witness. Dogs, like women, are considered "property" by many and expected to obey.

Mine doesn't like all men. He's only comfortable with certain men. I usually go with my dog's gut reaction to people.

I can just imagine a man reading these dog profiles, running into the shelter and towards the frightened dog:

"NOT ALL MEN!"

But seriously, it breaks my heart thinking about all these dogs and animals who have been abused and traumatised by men and their aggression. Dogs may be considered man's best friend, but looks like women are dogs' best friends...

I grew up with a shelter dog with this characteristic. It was a running family theory that he came from a horrible home before because our new dog did not like:

men
children
violence (he watched tv and would attack the tv if there was a violent scene— like we had scratches on the screen)
sports

It was bizarre. He loved my dad, though. And we never had any issues with intruders and we knew pretty quickly if a visitor to our home was “off” (he’d growl or bark from outside). Strange dog, but a good boi nonetheless.

A fear of men doesn't necessarily mean they've been abused by a man or men, but I have noticed that men are more likely to disregard an animal's autonomy/space and just barge in demanding affection from the animal, even when they've just met. Women are more empathetic and tend to introduce themselves to an animal quietly and respectfully. Men are already scarier to animals because they are bigger and have deeper voices, but a lot of men don't realise that (much like how some don't realise their 'innocent' behaviour is threatening to women).

I was curious about the statistics behind this and this is what I found:

• Animal abuse from women occurs more often due to neglect rather than violence/abuse

• Domestic violence and animal abuse are very closely linked.

I could only find statistical data from an Ohio 2008-2011 study) but it highlighted that,

Men made up 67% of animal abuse cases to the 32% women.

I have reason to believe that data in most other locations will reflect the same disparity. What you’re saying is not only common sense due to the way men act as a group in society but it is supported by data.

Edit: I also found that 100% of men that commit sexual homicide have a history of animal abuse. Protect yourselves and protect your animals

I've met 100 pets scared of men but only 1 scared of women. They do exist but it's super rare

Poor babies. Both my cats were rescue animals. My tortie cat is afraid of men. She will come downstairs when I've had girlfriends round to greet them. She must know the difference in scents as she did not come down when my ex had his male friends round or my male friends round. How can anyone hurt animals? They are so sweet and innocent. They rely on us.

Yep, I used to volunteer for a dog rescue group for 6 years and a lot of them were afraid of men. Never saw a single dog that was afraid of women.

Wow, yes. Got my dog from the shelter and they told me to be aware any shelter dog could be triggered by random things, hats, cats, motorcycles, etc.

Dog was triggered by white men. Sweet to my (white) son and daughter, but when my white dad came over, or the tall white teenager making a delivery from the hardware store, or my daughter’s 17-year-old white boyfriend, freaked out. Daughter’s Asian male friend, black male friends, white female friends, no issue at all.

It took a few months, she adores my dad now, but I really wonder about what she went through.

My dog Bones was severely abused, I got him at 5 months old and he was I foster care for 2 months before I got him. In the first 3 months of his life he suffered enough to traumatize him forever.

He hates strange men, the only men can be be around without any fear is my best friends dad and a man who had multiple abused rescues. He's much better than when I got him because tall women used to scare him as well. He's such a sweet dog, he adores cats and wants to make friend with every cat he meets, he is so gentle if someone is feeling unwell and he tries very hard to be a good boy even when he's scared.

My cat McCoy who I also got from a shelter as an infant is not impressed that he can't misbehave without Bones puppy slapping him. McCoy also prefers women and only every took to my grandfather.

Not matter how gentle I am he's getting worse and I'm not paying at least $750 for a specialist vet to help him, when I called up they asked some questions and allocated me a female vet. I've had him for 2 years and have done my absolute best to help him, I can't look at his adoption photos because they distress me so much.

When I try to socialize him I don't say he sacred of men because some men take it upon themselves to make him like them, I say "he's a real ladies man so don't be offended if he stays away"

I love Bones so much and no matter what he will come first, if I ever bring someone home and they don't behave appropriately they'll be out the door faster then you can say red flag.

Every time I watch that one cat show (with Jackson Galaxy?) and there's a man in the episode I just want to slap him. Hard. Why the FUCK do men treat animals so badly???? They hate cats because the cat won't put up with his shit. One episode the boyfriend was whacking the cat on the back like you'd do with a dog and was shocked when the cat raked its claws along his hand.

More and more I envision a world without men.

Wtf is the thing with abusing more vulnerable than you ? Can't be testosterone, not believing that crap for a second.

I have higher levels of testosterone ( PCOS. Good for strength training and weeding out on the basis of having a choice with my fertility ) and I have never felt the need to destroy someone or an animal I view as vulnerable or weaker.

Ya know what? I get called a man hater and it's because they've made a monster out of me. I'm never, ever going to allow this to happen if I can help it.

This applies to orphaned children as well. A wonderful family I knew growing up adopted twin toddler girls from abroad. They eventually had to send them back because they were distressed from the minute they met their adoptive father, and were not coping. They were traumatized by men to the point that it was cruel to make them be around one.
