My sister and I were discussing this yesterday, and she made a very good point. If a man marries a woman who earns less than him, the man’s ability to progress in life won’t be hindered because he won’t have things like gender/childbirth/rearing etc holding him back. Whereas if a woman marries a man who earns less than her, it will severely kneecap her because she will STILL be held back because of her gender/giving birth/raising children. Marrying a man who cannot provide is just asking for a hard life. Moreover, most men won’t be supportive of you. They’ll resent you instead. Don’t do it, ladies.

Honestly most of the people I know cry misandry when I say this, but in my personal opinion a man who makes decent money is just basic. In a society where men flourish by design, a man who doesn’t earn a bountiful income is subpar. I mean come on dude. Because that is what 50/50 does.... Also, I’m tired of this “you only deserve to attract what you are.” (Usually only applied to women.). Women who have limited financial resources (or are impoverished) should not be forced to date broke men...they literally cannot afford to be with men that add zero value to their lives.

Do most/all the housework without asking

She's right. Given the pay gap, a man is already likely to be paid more than a woman for doing the same job, and doing it less well.

This means that, if a man is making less than a woman, he's either lacking in ambition or has a completely different set of priorities (and they'd be incompatible because of that).

I think women also need to consider the long-term impacts of an income discrepancy. If the woman is the higher earner, and all other factors are equal, she will have more money saved for retirement. If a woman wants to fund a man's retirement with her hard-earned money, well....that's her choice, but I sure wouldn't do it.

A man wouldn’t have to “work harder than you” to make more money. If he is making less money than you he is clearly not working har at all.

Women have to be 3 times better than men, smarter, with more advanced degrees and more work experience to even GET the job and they STILL make less then men who are less qualified than them.

I’ve worked on two industries that require advanced degrees and I can confirm both had this problem, and there is nothing being done about it either. That’s even when you take legal action.

If it not about the carefree life that money enables then men would appreciate the value of a woman who has made a deal with him to sacrifice her earning potential to raise his kids. They don't. A low effort man remains low effort in any environment.

He may leave her to bear the huge financial, opportunity, physical, mental and social burden of raising the kids alone while he cons a naive woman into doing the lion's share of work to make a relationship work under the facade of 50/50.

If I followed this, I’d never date, because I’ve worked damn hard to reach the top 1% of income. I tried dating a couple of guys who earned similar to me and they were the most abusive, pornsick pieces of shit I’ve ever dated.

My current boyfriend earns less than me but still a good wage, especially given that he’s younger and more junior in his career. He works hard and takes on the lion’s share of the housework. He’s happy to have a prenup and to go part-time in his job if we have children, so I can preserve my earning power if I want to.

The way he treats me matters more than the size of his paycheque.

Coming from someone who made more than all of their ex's with only ONE exception, this is absolutely true.

You should not settle. I've had so many guys find out how much I made and immediately turned on me, and/or expected me to pay for everything, while still wanting me to be submissive.

There was only one guy I've ever dated that had already saved a fuck ton of money, i.e. was comfortable financially, and had started his own little coffee business which allowed him to continue a comfortable lifestyle. To this day he was the sweetest, most romantic, and genuinely considerate guy I've ever dated. We broke up due to age difference.

And, of course, he was raised without a dad - he didn't even know his dad's name. Pretty sure he was a rape baby, and even he alluded to that. He was raised by his mom and aunt. So, anyone who uses the whole 'boys need a male figure to be a man and understand respect' can STFU.

I date a guy who makes around 20% less than me because he only works part-time as he's finishing his master. He's also a few years younger than me. I'm childfree, so my career won't be hindered and in less than half a year he'll be able to work full-time so he'll make around the same as me. Truth be told, I had a very accelerated career track so it's hard to keep up with me. He still pays for all of our dates, gets me gifts, satisfies me sexually and does most of the house work and errands, so I am quite happy with our relationship. If he would have earned less than 75% of what I do, then I probably would have rejected him.

I know a girl who married her chronically underemployed bf who flitted from career to career so often you'd have thought he was Barbie. One day he was a firefighter, then the next he was going to study to be an engineer, then he was in sales. You get the picture.

I have a question for you all, would genuinely love seeing opinions you all have. What If a man is actively trying to pursue a career and wants a woman who helps him in his struggle and vice versa. At this stage his success isn’t materialized. He believes the woman who has helped him through his journey deserves the queen treatment and the world as opposed to woman who only came into his life when life gave him plenty of lemons.
