Quartz is a 7 on moh's scale which means that daily wear will chip, scratch and haze the surface of the stone. Diamonds (lab or natural), sapphires and rubys are 9. Which is why these stones are chosen for engagement rings. This quartz ring will look terrible within a year. From purely a price perspective this is a dumbass move as it'll need a lot more upkeep, polishing and probably the stone replaced a few times.

2600 for a ring that is supposed to last until death is not expensive at all. When people get engage I assume they want to spend their lives together so why all of a sudden people have so much problem with the cost of a ring? But spend 3k on PC that will be too old to play latest games in 5 years.

Seems like this cheap guys have zero thinking about the future but also lack romance. Ring with a diamond isn't going to drop price like some used electronics or a car. So when the darkest scenario happens they would have something to sell. Not to mention a diamond can last generations. But it's better to think that "she should be happy I even proposed, she is a gold digger for wanting a high quality ring".
