I’ve read the FDS manual, but this one feels a little in the grey area for me!

I've been dating this guy for a little over 7 months. We've gotten really close. He's bought me gifts, taken me on nice dates and acts like a boyfriend. He's always discussing the future as if I'll be his wife.

Last weekend, while on a date, I asked how he felt about dating exclusively. His response left me feeling uncomfortable. While he stated that he's not dating anyone else, he expressed that he's afraid of the title (he is still scarred from his last relationship). He is 42 years old--I expected him to have already worked through his shit. I told him that it sounds like a lame excuse.

After 7 months, I would expect a guy to know what he wants. Am I not empathizing enough? I told him that I need a break for a few days to figure out what I want.

Should I let it go and find a guy who knows what he wants?
