What did I just read…? At best, this is a disgusting, vile, humorless “joke”. At worst…? I don’t want to think about it.

“The researchers also found that the relationship forum was used by men more than women."

Now we know why it’s mostly shitty advise out there. CoMmUniCaTe.

[–]Buggy1218FDS Newbie 212 points213 points214 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

If you’re asking for a stranger’s perspective on your relationship you’re probably passed the point of just communicating. What two mature adults who love each other can’t work out their issues among themselves?

With my ex, I tried communicating until I realized it did zero good. By the time I was googling our issues and asking Reddit for advice I was basically just wanting to hear the hard truth from an outside POV- that we were as good as over.

[–]vbych76FDS Newbie 91 points92 points93 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Read the first sentence like "if you're asking for the teenagers' perspective on your relationship" and I thought to myself "yep, sounds like Reddit"

[–]The_Cat_EmpressFDS Newbie 28 points29 points30 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm wheezing because this is also true.

[–]OneTrueMel 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

right? I love using it as a benchmark for all my issues and relationships, career, romantic, social... if I want* to ask the internet, I already 100% know the answer.

[–]DontAskTwice-A-RoniFDS Newbie 90 points91 points92 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And they constantly scream about how biased Reddit is against men?? Lmfao they’re so full of shit.

[–]dee_isabirdFDS Newbie 46 points47 points48 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah and the advice is so male biased. “Ok yeah he cheated on you, but have you considered his feelings? Do you let him know he’s appreciated?”

Meanwhile you scroll to a post where a guy gets cheated on “Dump her, you deserve so much better, go no contact, RUN.”

From the article:

However, the notion of ‘heartache’ was the most discussed theme in general, suggesting that people are seeking help for their relationships online by seeking support for the emotional distress caused by the relationships, rather than for advice on specific problems

So, "heartache" is the state where you're just complaining about your relationship in general. No idea what's wrong, or why it's wrong. Interesting.

I was listening to the weeknds new album today, and he has some song about the one that got away or something. He starts out the song saying that love makes him scared he runs away, etc. He ends the song languishing that he ran out of time and the opportunity is now gone to "make you mine."

As the patron Saint of LVM, the weeknd shows us all that men will endlessly, loudly cry themselves to sleep....over not being able to "own" women. It's the weirdest misplacement of emotional energy I've ever seen.

Like he was so close at the beginning, seeing how he has attachment issues, then quickly jumps to "well ill feel better if I just had this woman" when in reality, emotional issues don't work like that, you have to actually heal your emotions instead of demanding bangmaids.

[–]queenofswordsxxxFDS Newbie 138 points139 points140 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

In one of his new songs he was also complaining about wanting ‘her’ but not willing to make any sacrifice for it… code for: boo boo I’m sad because I can’t have u while simultaneously cheating on u relentlessly

[–]JadeBaby2211FDS Newbie 84 points85 points86 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The album is unlistenable. He's created an entire album based off the Blinding Lights aesthetic, and it feels so lazy and unoriginal, like he's about to come out with a greatest hits album very soon.

And aside from the awful art direction, his insights within his songs suck, have been sung a million times before but he uses more direct, less metaphorical language to hide his shittiness.

His music is squarely the anthem of the LVM!!!

[–]Ashamed-Reputation-2FDS Newbie 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I couldn't make it past gasoline. I'm going to try to get through it because everybody is hyping it up. I think starboy was his last solid album, even though everybody hated it for being too mainstream.

[–]Sunshine_Daisies2525FDS Newbie 136 points137 points138 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The way he talks about Hadid and Jolie is sooooo nasty. How can you lack that much grace with women that have so much of it. I can see why Selena went “nope!” Jeez.

[–]Equal-Ear2312FDS Apprentice 37 points38 points39 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can only hope Jolie doesn't have a romantic relationship with him like so many tabloids implied. I don't think so. She's more likely to sue him for "lips like Angelina" 🤣

[–]SearchLightsIncFDS Apprentice 19 points20 points21 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Is that the same song where the lyrics state he'll fuck a lesbian straight with his magic cock?

[–]The_Cat_EmpressFDS Newbie 87 points88 points89 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Occasionally I still listen to their music but it's hard to feel bad for the dude when he talks about "bring your friend along" (typical LV porn addicted scrote stuff) calls women derogatory slurs and in the next song scrotally wails about how a woman left him and how he's not over her LMAO.

"Patron Saint of LVM" YESS! 😂

[–]Equal-Ear2312FDS Apprentice 54 points55 points56 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

She's not mine 😵

She got away

🤡

Most men sing these songs that paint them as victims, as if a woman rejecting them means she did the worst thing imaginable.

Scrotes, get a grip!

I remember this awful horrendous piece of crap of a song from a cheater it was blasting everywhere when I was a kid. Scrotes just lick their wounds and never take accountability.

[–]SearchLightsIncFDS Apprentice 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mean, if nothing else that damn song eludes to how the music industry manufactures music and with that, cultural opinions. Music designed to help women be "pick me's" and not feel bad about it.

Seriously, a lot of mainstream music isnt insightful, its manufactured drivel that is essentially selling people an image they want to believe about themselves. People are afraid to be different these days, its boring AF.

[–]all_or_nothing_betFDS Apprentice 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Biracial_tooth_fairyFDS Newbie 177 points178 points179 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I lurked on a dating subreddit for my city once and saw so many comments from dudes wanting to pump and dump the women they go on "dates" with. It made me sick. But oh yeah. They're the real victims here, aren't they?

[–]Sunshine_Daisies2525FDS Newbie 114 points115 points116 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

This reminded me of the FDS podcast and how much I look forward to the take-down of Matthew Hussey. I remember this one thing he said about how men are looking for the female version of junkfood (A playmate I assume)- and how our job was to teach them better. We’re supposed to give them that feeling of having worked out and eaten vegetables for the day.

As I read your comment, it made me laugh to think how ridiculous it is. These men see us as burgers? So I just imagined a cow talking to a Homer Simpson on a couch, telling him- no, I’m a vegetable. I’m not a cow. 🐄🐮🫑🧅🥬🥦 and that made me laugh.

Add my name to the list of fans eagerly anticipating the Hussey Roast. I'll bring the chili-mango BBQ sauce!!! Cannot stand him.

[–]Ana_jpFDS Newbie 111 points112 points113 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I watched a few videos of Matthews a few years back and I was actually floored by how much labour he was expecting women to do for men. Training these asshats was their parents job, not ours ffs

"It's hard and no one will touch it for freeeeeeeee!!!!!!! MY GOD. WHY DO YOU HATE ME?!?!?!?"

[–]all_or_nothing_betFDS Apprentice 172 points173 points174 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't see them complaining about their heart ache. I only see them complaining either about their inability to get easy sex from anyone, about not being able to fuck beautiful women, about their shitty mind games not working, and about their cheapness and unwillingness/inability to court a woman and pay for dates.

Women, on the other hand, share truly heartbreaking stories about being wronged, abused, harassed, ghosted, broken up with, slow faded on, and taken advantage of by men.

Men don't have friends they talk about stuff with, so they resort to reddit

[–]BedazzledSwashbuckleFDS Newbie 101 points102 points103 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The LVM I've known gossip endlessly about women and relationships to each other, up to and including showing their hook-ups' nude photos to their friends, colluding to get their friends laid, and keeping each other's secrets from women, law enforcement, and employers.

They're fine. They just refuse to be responsible for the problems they create for themselves.

[–]Mignonettefrance 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

There’s men online trading nude photos of their wives and girlfriends with strangers like trading sports cards. Most of the women have no idea. And the men don’t even know each other. They also secretly take photos, so even if you never send nudes to men (please don’t!), photos of your naked body may be online.

They could decide to be better men when caught out, but no, they just devise even more depraved ways to try and get the upper hand.

Dominance over the female through sexual exploitation = the male sexual strategy aka TRP

[–]huixquiFDS Newbie 71 points72 points73 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Definitely has nothing to do with the fact that Reddit skews heavily male lmao

[–]BedazzledSwashbuckleFDS Newbie 31 points32 points33 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And are only 55% of the comments assessed in the article. Surely reddit is more than 55% male, which would seem to *disprove* their thesis, no?

I know I am an asshole for this but I love male tears. I love reading about the ones they let get away. I love seeing them in pain. They never quite get that they could have handled things better…. So I keep scrolling and kee-keeing.

Doubt. Reddit is so heavily moderated to remove anything that displays the pattern of bad behaviour from men, and amplifies 'evil' women.

Women's posts detailing abuse are removed a lot. Probably because she gets the very good advice to involve the police. Can't have other readers getting ideas.

And women delete their own posts out of shame at how duped they've been, or straight up terror that their abusive partner will find it because he's monitoring her.

Men's heartache : she won't tell me why she dumped me wah

Women's heartache : years of abuse while IN the relationship.

Women have friends

[–]vaguelinenFDS Newbie 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That was my first thought. I have a monthly hike with a female friend where we both have a small rant about our boyfriends, kids and mothers. We breathe out all the petty annoyances and breathe in fresh woodland air.

[–]Traumarama79 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I genuinely believe two things contribute to the stereotype that women are so much more dependent on romance than men:

One, it's a relic from back when women were institutionally dependent on men for things like housing and other property, custody of kids, resources, etc. No, it's not that women aren't allowed these things on their own; it's that they just really want a Prince Charming to sweep them off their feet!

Two, because women are encouraged socially to put more effort into preserving long-term relationships, rather than just petulantly stomping around until they get their way. They're more amenable to therapy, self-help books, and other interventions that men eschew as perhaps effeminate. This is consistent with the findings of this study, which speculate that this increased effort on Reddit is due to its lack of "traditional barriers to seeking help".

The reality is that single women live longer, are generally happier, and have more orgasms. We are generally more self-sufficient in the avenues of householding and pursuing higher education. We must always keep in mind: it is, more often than not, men who need us.

[–]Jane_72 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Since Reddit is predominately male I would take this study with a grain of salt.

[–]Ferretastic359 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just another side effect of men struggling to maintain meaningful social connections in the real world/with other men

[–]Busy_Faithlessness97 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

That's because sadly most women who would've benefitted from "hEarTaChe" advice are already either in a mental hospital due to years of severe abuse and gaslighting, in jail due to defending themselves or simply six feet under.

Same as to why we rarely hear about crazy ex boyfriend stories as compared to crazy ex gf = these women are already dead.

For men "heartache" is their wife telling him they're disgusting for wanting to eat their own cum(literally a highly upvoted and awarded post on r/sex rn)

For women "heartache" is their husband beating the shit out of them cheating and making them a single mother saddled with kids and unemployable.

[–]plumeriaworld 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My ex had a recent birthday and he had been trying to contact me although I have blocked and deleted him since FDS. I know I should not look him up but just out of curiosity I looked at one of his travel app profiles when I thought of him on his bday. He wrote about how lonely he is and has just been traveling the world aimlessly at this point. Since we broke up this guy has not spent any time in our home country, even during Covid. He sounds pretty miserable.

But he absolutely blew it with me and thought that he could just prance back into my life at any time and that I would take him back with open arms since I was always so forgiving and willing to work through issues before. I know he must be baffled, he has no idea that I found FDS and the strength to block him out of my life. He just turned 40 too. What a pathetic fool.

[–]blehblahbloopboop 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The heartache follows the same storyline 80% of the time: scrote complains about sex life, fails to mention that he did nothing to help wife/girlfriend and all the horrible things he did to her, then asks if he’s the asshole. 🥲

[–]PassafistMonkey 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Study finds that male dominated site has more posts from men about emotional issues.

Where men don't often share with their friends like this.

Where men can easily only share one side to get an echo chamber.

Where women are usually roasted for sharing relationship issues. 🤔

[–]BedazzledSwashbuckleFDS Newbie 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This article sort of bugs me.

It has gems like this:

“What was most interesting was that when exploring gender differences, analyses uncovered that men in fact discussed heartache on the relationships forum more than women, and they also showed language patterns consistent with a more secure attachment style,”

and this:

“For example, are men truly less emotionally invested in relationships than women, or is it the case that men are simply stigmatized out of sharing their feelings?”

Considering women in relationships are statistically dealing with the demographic most likely to murder them ... and that a higher percentage of women suffer potentially life-threatening physical trauma in intimate relationships, the attachment style differences along gendered lines aren't surprising.

And of course, the good ol lib-fem trope about men just sounding less empathetic because of all the social pressure on them to suppress they feels ... which we all know is (a) a male problem when it happens - women aren't the ones threatening men for having emotions, and (b) fairly rare; women are far more penalized for being emotional in the workplace, when utilizing community infrastructure, or when expressing an opinion.

[–]crumbsnatcher0 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Let these emotionally stunted Scrotes “ReEeEE” into the void. I’m too fabulous and too smart to care. 💅
