Men
You can't have babies
Sit down when a woman's right to choose is discussed
[–]catipillarFDS Newbie 101 points102 points103 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I was pro-choice before I became a mother. Now that I am a mother, I've found myself fanatic about how imperative it is for women to have access to abortions. Giving birth can kill you. No matter how healthy you are, unexpected shit happens in the hospital. You can be left with a body that never functions the same way again on many levels. Children are absolutely beautiful and I adore them wholeheartedly but they should NEVER be carried unwittingly or unwillingly. Imagine teenage girls who get pregnant. Children having children, misery qua misery...for who? For what? Children should only be born to those who seek to bear them...because that shit is no fucking joke.
[–][deleted] 29 points30 points31 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Agreed 100000%. Unwanted pregnancies cause nothing but pain for the child and mother.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Not at all, just pointing out that they don't actually believe that only people personally impacted by an event should make decisions about that event. If they did, they wouldn't try to control what women do with their bodies.
But yes, there's a lot to unpack there:
The fact that war impacts every person in the country, not just those that see combat - so his argument falls flat again and is still just about controlling women.
He didn't say only draft-eligible aged men should make the decisions (the only ones impacted, according to him), he implies that ALL men should make the decisions about war. So again he proves it's just about controlling women.

You are aware that it was an all Male court that decided Roe vs Wade, right?
[–]bunnyday_FDS Newbie 70 points71 points72 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
And? Do you think women chose a group of men to decide that for them? That’s the whole point of her comment, men shouldn’t be deciding these things. And even if men decided to allow us abortion (although that’s not even the case, it’s very hard for women in some places to get one), I’m not going to kiss his feet for affording me a basic human right.

I believe the post is from a different country, but in the U.S.:
The draft was enacted in 1917 by an ALL MALE Congress. In 1981 an ALL MALE SCOTUS upheld the requirement. In June 2016, Congress (STILL 80% MALE) refused to pass a provision in the defense bill to allow women to register. Yep, just 4 years ago.
Women like this have fought long and hard to serve with men. Men have fought long and hard to keep us out - and then blame us for THEIR rules.
[–]TheSatanicVeganFDS Newbie 179 points180 points181 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Men get mad at women for their own vicious cycle that they created. Astounding. Lol
[+]Buckley92FDS Apprentice 58 points59 points60 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I personally think women SHOULD be kept out of the draft and only allowed to register for the military voluntarily or called in for medic or non combat roles, purely for the military and government’s collective failure to address the huge problem of rape and sexual assault in the military which is already rampant in the US. The two countries I can think of off the top of my head that make women register for the draft are Israel and North Korea, and I don’t know about Israel but North Korea has a HUGE PROBLEM with rape and sexual assault in the military! Solve this problem, or don’t put women at risk of sexual assault by force!
[–]cherrybombfieldFDS Newbie 34 points35 points36 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The US has a HUGE problem with rape and sexual harassment in the US Military.
[–]YveisGreyFDS Newbie 15 points16 points17 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That’s never gonna happen unless they separate men and women completely and even then women would be at risk if they were deployed, they would be at risk from the opposing force. I don’t think women should be in combat at all tbh. There is no way women in combat can be protected from assault and rape, even civilian women become victims of these crimes in war. Women should be kept far away from violent males as is possible at all times. I don’t care if it’s not “feminist” I care about the reality of the situation which is that women can never be safe from male aggression in combat and the stakes for them will always be higher because of them being physically weaker and more vulnerable to sexual assaults.
[–]PollyannaPennyFDS Newbie 64 points65 points66 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well, if those selfish suffragettes had dedicated some of their activism towards protesting the draft, it would have been snuffed out 100 years ago! Heaven forbid men have to get off their asses and fight for their rights all by their lonesome! /s
[–]ElelavrieFDS Newbie 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Of course, 30% of women are raped in the military by their "comrades". Men have always known this, and probably wanted to protect their daughters from the harassment that they knew women would receive.

His statement is funny until you think about it for more than two seconds. Women still face the repercussions of war regardless of being on the front lines. Women get raped during times of war, for one thing.

It's pretty stupid because no one in the Anglosphere is drafted and many women can and do serve.
On the other hand, using his logic, he should sit down since he's OLD AS FUCK so therefore also cannot serve and cannot be drafted.

Shit women get raped even when there isn't one. It's a huge problem over in Asia among Asian women and fellow female soldiers alike. Japan and Korea has had to change/tighten laws because of it. IT- WHO??? MEN. Absolutely vile.
[–]RedeRules770FDS Newbie 56 points57 points58 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I really wanted to go into the US Air Force and was talking with recruiters and setting it all up but the thing that stopped me was the knowledge that if I were to be assaulted by the people around me (who I am supposed to trust with my life? Lol) nothing would be done about it. Women, at least in the US forces, are more likely to be raped by the other soldiers around them than they are to be killed in combat.
One vet was trying to convince me to enlist anyways and when I mentioned the statistics (25% of women in the military!) he said "the statistics are way inflated by women making it up to advance or because they regretted it after".
Yeeeaaaaaahhhhhhhh if that's what all the man soldiers think is happening, I'll stay away thanks.
[–]TheSatanicVeganFDS Newbie 14 points15 points16 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah I've heard stories. I read a story the other day of an enlisted female here on Reddit about how she got really wasted (believed to be drugged) and one of her male peers wanted to help her to her hotel room or whatever. Luckily she had a good female friend who was like- nah, I'll take care of her. She was glad too because the author expected he had bad intentions and she had every right to think that.
I have been looking to join the AF as well, but as an Officer. I haven't come across many stories of Officer women being harassed (I'm sure it's there, I just don't know how bad- if similar to enlisted women). If things were to go well I'd like to go work in Asia and my mother was like "you need to be careful around Asian men because of XYZ." Like no. From the stories I've heard, I'm not worried about the locals, but the men I'll be working with and that is really sad to say. Like so much for being "a team."

I served in the army and fuck I got tired of this attitude. We have mandatory service for men in our country, women can volunteer. "We're oppressed because for us this is mandatory unlike for you women!!!!" Also: "Why are you women coming here with your inferior physique and strength!!!! Go back to kitchen, I'm sure you're here just to get laid!!!! "

Right there. Men fought to keep women out of the service, but then cry a fucking river. Don't abuse enlisted woman, assholes.
Its literally like creating an “issue” for themselves to have the upper hand in an argument or something.
Itll be a bit of a weird analogy but imagine we had a fast food menu in front of us. And i said you cannot eat the burger and that i would handle it. And when you reached for the fries instead i said “oh you i get to eat the fries because i deserved it by taking on the hassle of eating the burger. Here you get the salad.”
I know i couldnt explain what i meant to say well. I think my mind went to fast food for an analogy bcos im hungry.

Stefan: you do realize that:
When men went to war in WW1 and WW2, women WERE drafted, just not for the main combat roles. They were drafted to drive ambulances, work as nurses, medics, tend to injured soldiers, work in munitions factories (which got bombed), work in truck and aircraft factories (which also got bombed), work as teachers, work in food supply stores and work in telephone exchanges. Ever heard of the Women’s Auxiliary Airforce? They did the ground jobs making it possible for the RAF to get in the air. There were also attacks on telephone exchanges and WAAF bases.
Read Carve her name with pride. It’s about a woman who had kids at home who still gave her life after she was caught by the Germans spying. Because she wouldn’t give up the others.
[+][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes to reading Carve her Name with Pride! Violet Szabo was an integral part of the French Resistance. She was fluent in French and English, which allowed her to blend in everywhere she went. That book was written shortly after the war, and its misogyny is pretty palpable. The author marvels at how Violet was both beautiful and smart (because that's impossible of course). He also quotes her family as saying that she was so smart and athletic that she should have been born a boy.
But yes, the moral of the story is that he is an aging racist thumb and women have contributed to the front lines throughout history, and will continue being awesome into the future!
