If a man asks you to change your name and doesn't immediately backpedal based on your reaction it's a red flag (and if he has a professional career or has any other reason to know the importance of a name, it's an automatic red flag regardless). It seems like she forgave him for that, though, and it came back up when she talked about the ring.

This is why making men spend money is so important! When they think they're buying you, they reveal it. If you don't let them spend money on you, it doesn't go away, you are just denying yourself that knowledge about them.
