My aunt left her husband for another man. I was 5 at the time, I don't know why she left.

The other man didn't propose to her for TWENTY YEARS.

It wasn't til I joined FDS that I realized what happened. He knew she'd never leave because she gave up a husband for him. And he milked those free wife benefits til she retired and then hopped on her sweet pension.

It’s becoming super common. I recently ended a relationship where a guy tried to turn me into his forever girlfriend. He’d been convinced of its normality by the plethora of friends in his circle who had been with their girlfriends for over a decade, hadn’t proposed, and had no plans to. I used to give guys YEARS of my life, but never again. From now on, if they haven’t proposed in a maximum of 18 months, I’m out the door. By the way, this is also a reminder to never move in with a guy - it’s a lot easier to become a forever girlfriend when you’re already playing wifey.

I really really hate normie millennial culture where the whole trope of husbands and wives hating each other has gotten one step worse into “lol he didn’t want to marry me lol so quirky”. You look at that part of social media and it’s the same place you’ll find women dropping towels to get their LVM to stop playing video games (usually to just get the towel thrown in the face and told to put some clothes on) or any of the other “quirky pranks” that are basically just men humiliating and degrading women but in a soft core haha societal humor way.

It’s beyond ugly and I’m beyond sick of it. It makes the pickme lifestyle look normal and something to be unconcerned about and leads to women putting their guards down. It fuels the patriarchy and this isn’t a real point but it is, it’s just damn sad.

What is this "We've waited?" ? She might have been waiting eagerly, puppy-dog style, but he wasn't waiting for shit. He liked his life just fine the way it was, live-in girlfriend and all.

When I hear about these marriages 10+ years into the relationship, I suspect that his motivation for finally proposing is wanting to get in on her health benefits, retirement plan, and/or an inheritance he sees her in line for.

I also served my time and spent 12 years precious years of my life mothering a scrote. The last fight we ever had as a couple, after years of telling me "I want to, just give me more time" and "we will, I'm getting ready so that I can give you what you deserve"...he claps back with a "I don't know if I should marry you anymore."

I was the clown who worked while he went to college. Now he's in debt, almost homeless, and working a dead end job. He still begs for me back and I'm still picking up the pieces after devoting my life to him. I'll spend my life now telling women my story so they don't guilt themselves that they didn't "try hard enough" or fall into the same trap as I did. It was a difficult lesson but well worth it to help others.
