No. The system of control they talk about is economic in nature. But since the current vogue rejects class reductionism, as accepting it means women (also applies to minorities) at the top can be held responsible for continuing or making new abuses, self-ascribed feminists cling to their jargon as a means to virtue signal to like-minded people. Patriarchy theory, feels to me, like somebody misread left wing political thought and instead of UNITING different oppressed classes, decided on DIVIDING them by gender instead.

The system doesn't benefit men, no, it benefits both the women and men of the capitalist class. And it doesn't just oppress women, the system oppresses women and men. So if it exploits men and doesn't benefit men then it's not a Patriarchy is it? No, the system benefits money/property/equity/etc. So it's capitalist not patriarchal.

So no, Patriarchy, even if it existed, is not what hurts men (or women, for that matter).

It doesn't. French revolution, the birth of the USA was about class and monarchy. Kings/Queens, nobles and religious leader were screwing with the peasants, and men had it even harder because they were basically forced to fight in wars.

Patriarchy is a feminist lie, like populist are saying people from abroad stealing jobs. A complex issue is being boiled down to a single word, to make it more attractive to sell it to light minded teenager and adults.

Higher male variance in most traits means men will fill most of the seats at the very top of almost all fields. Greater male willingness to shoulder responsibility, higher competitiveness, etc. means men will usually take most of the lead roles.

Feminists have unspoken (or just outspoken) assumptions connected to the term: That this discrepancy is unfair, is caused by oppression, is not of the women's own choice / making, that women could fill these roles just as well, etc.

These assumptions are mostly wrong. But don't throw away the fact that men outperform women when it comes to being the very best at something. It ought to be a source of pride for our sex that we we're the ones leading human progress in most areas. It is not something women could have just replicated were they on their own.

I’ve been having more women tell me my life is easier because I am a guy. First, that is bullshit. This dismisses the personal struggles of people and discredits the success of that person. If life is so good for men, why do 75% of them make up suicides? I can’t use my gender to afford buying a home or afford buying the car I’ve been wanting to buy.

Instead of creating a wedge between the two genders, why not have the discussion of how we can make life easier for BOTH of us. This victim mentality will get nobody, nowhere.

"The Patriarchy" is a construct created by 2nd wave feminism as a means to not only generalize...but demonize ALL men on a broad spectrum, lumping us all into the same category as those few in power who profit from women being exploited. If the patriarchy was indeed real, NO MAN would be suffering or disadvantaged financially. We'd all be living like Tate if it were true...but we know it's not because of many factors. One example: homelessness. In the United States, 70% of homeless individuals are men, with 29% being women and the final 1% being trans folk. If the patriarchy were real, there'd be no homeless men in the western world. We'd all be living in 3 bedroom houses with an oppressed female as a maid.

Sadly, we have now 3 generations of women who believe that the root source of their struggles are men, when in fact we're ALL struggling to navigate this world where 5% control 95% of the wealth, and they keep that control by keeping as all punching at each other...gender AND race...when we should be punching up.

It is entirely a matter of definition. I've heard several different ones. It also depends in part on what "power" means and how you analyze it.

I've heard some definitions of patriarchy which are, arguably, consistent with MRA theory.

However most definitions of "patriarchy" I have heard of are either unfalsifiable, outright insane, or so ephemeral and vague it makes the concept into a joke.

a genuine question. in my country we have alot of big tech companies many of which have branched out to foreign countries.

these mega rich companies only pass down the leadership to their sons. since they are rich these rich people usually have alot of children. even the subsidiaries are own by their blood and its usually the sons who have main control. so the last name of the ceo is always the same.

So here's the best way I've heard it explain, we live in a right-handed world. If you're right-handed things are kind of sort of made for you like a computer mouse. A left-handed person isn't necessarily unable to do the things the right handed person is doing but the system isn't designed with them in mind. So it's easy if you are a right-handed person to see nothing wrong with the system because it works for you, but at the left handed person there are things that you might notice that a right-handed person wouldn't. Basically what I'm saying is there's no advantage necessarily, but there is a systematic setup that was not considering women in the workforce, women in rules of leadership and women in charge of the housing Market or in society as equals. I don't really care if you think we're equal I honestly don't think we're equal, but to say the patriarchy doesn't exist it's just say the system is equal. It's just as Fair, for each party. It's not that we have any disadvantages or we don't have a right it's that we don't have consideration in the original makeup of the system. I think what exists is a minority of very power hungry men at the top of the pyramid that subjugate other men and also women.

From the outside this might seem like men are in control as the majority of those at the top are men. However their rules aren’t to benefit all men at the disadvantage of women. They are there to advance their own power at the disadvantage of the majority of men and women.

So being a top man might be great but your average man likely has it much worst working the most physically hard jobs and being sent off to die and fight in wars for the advantage of the elites.

Our society was certainly more patriarchal until the 70s/80s but since then, there's hardly any "glass ceiling" left. Women already outnumber men in college enrollment, and we know that women aren't clamoring over themselves and other men for construction jobs or mining or other dangerous jobs. Pretty soon, women will far out-earn men but will probably come up with some BS as to why they're still opposed.

All branches of studies that focus on human civilization conclude that patriarchy exists. This includes history, philosophy, archeology, and even psychology.

Patriarchy doesn't mean that all men are well off compared to women, or all women fare worse. It means men have more autonomy compared to women. Men were not banned from law making institutions as women were. We still continue to have societies that treat the average woman as inferior/less important to society than the average man. We also have places that prevent women from being educated.

Even in more liberal countries men are still treated as the default.

Yes and no. “-Archy” just means X occupies the top. I have yet to see a society where men don’t disproportionately occupy both the very top and very bottom of society. So in that sense, the patriarchy is real.

In the sense of “men have easier lives and/or enjoy greater social privileges” this is most true in conservative places like the Middle East or the Flyover States, while in liberal cities you’d much rather be a woman.

We continue looking at history the XIX century way. We still think that the purpose of our life is to be famous and remembered by posterity. If you look at history that way, you may think that history was a Patriarchy. That men were privileged. Just because most statues you see around in our cities are of men.

But it should be obvious that the purpose of life is happiness. Sadly we cannot make a history of happiness. We cannot do a survey in ancient rome to ask people if they where happy or not. My guess is that, if we did it, we might be surprised by how much the "patriarchical" system brought happiness to men in comparison to women.

Because, probably, not many women envied men for being forced to go to war, or for having to take part in a violent political life.
