Assume there are tiers of men in terms of attractiveness:

A small percentage of men have high quality looks (genetics and body shape) or high social status making them absolute superior as potential partners, those men are the main actors of unforgotten romances and often initiated on.

There are also ones that are just better than average yet doesn’t worth the risk of rejection or humiliation to initiate on. These men can easily find circulating partners by just playing the game.

Average men can occasionally find someone, their value shines in long term relationships for those who want stability and less risky everyday lifestyle.

When it comes to below average men the game turns into a roulette; you either win by luck or get beaten by casino and you know what they say; the house always win.

The bottom men are also small percentage just like the top, there, things are less statistics, more religious. The consolidating part is if you happen to see a miracle none of these man above will ever have such story to be told to their unborn grandsons.

Attraction is created by a combination of qualities. That goes for both men and women although we tend to expect women to place less importance on physical appearance. Personality, competence, intelligence, accessibility, looks are among the most important qualities.

It's entirely possible for someone who doesn't qualify as beautiful or handsome to still be seen as attractive, appealing or even hot enough for intimacy.

It's doesn't matter how hot as long as he meets the hot threshold he will get get sex... what is that threshold? this important for the next part: her female friends and other women approval. If her friends and women around her would feel jealousy of her fucking this X guy, then definitely he is hot.

Women who date ugly guys don't find them hot, they accept them as ugly but rely less on external approval and/or have a shorter female friends circle aka a beta female or a sigma female but if she cares about being alpha female she won't date the ugly guy

By definition women assess but also manage their own SMV better than men so women plan ahead, that's why you can see fairly pretty women with ugly men but such women are reaching their 30's or a bit above, they capitalize the last years of beauty but also fertility on finding a husband, the ugly guy might fit the role better than chad who doesn't commit

In principle, this is very true, but the trouble is the lower a man falls in the looks scale, the less chances there are of finding a woman who thinks he's handsome.

I mean, duh. We know the women who we are in relationships think we’re attractive. My gf thinks I’m attractive based on just how she is with me, same thing with my exes. Here’s the thing though, they’re the only women who ever find me attractive at the time. Like seriously, no other women ever hits on me, DMs me, tries to hook up with me, no indicators of interests, nothing while I’m in a relationship. I always laugh when men say “a relationship makes you hotter” because the amount of interest I get is exactly the same, which is basically none.

Let’s face it, there are certain male features that most of the female population will sit down and agree are attractive, the rest probably won’t. But if you lack these features, you will find that the pool of women is smaller, and depending on how many you lack that pool gets smaller and smaller. This makes it difficult to get casual sex for a guy because the women who find you attractive enough for casual sex is extremely small. You cannot be attractive or unattractive to every single woman on the earth. But, if you’re only attractive to a few, then you can basically kiss the prospect of having many partners goodbye. I’d rather be the guy with the features most women find attractive than the guy who gets zero attention except from his gf.

He has to be good enough for whatever she’s after based on her state of mind at the time. It doesn’t guarantee that she thinks he’s “handsome” though.

The right vibe and chemistry with just enough physical attractiveness can make someone “hot.” I can find a woman hot and intoxicating without thinking she’s beautiful.

Average-looking men can be found handsome by some women, but those women are less common than they are for conventionally attractive guys and a good portion of those women will be below average in attactiveness. A larger but still small portion of women can potentially think he’s hot.

For most women (as well as for most men) the criteria for "just sex" is different than the criteria for sex within a relationship. One hopes your GF sees more in you than just your physical appearance. But when someone (of any gender) isn't looking for love but just for a one-off then looks become more important. IMHO

Are you wealthy? Or on the way to being? Tall is a big factor and security is what they look for. I am pretty average and 5'8 so my luck with the ladies wasn't great, but I learnt to charm them, I got into the gym, and I'm working on my lifestyle to be more appealing. I lot more hardworking than a tall swedish model, but it's good for me to do it too

attraction has always been beyond looks for me and more an emotional thing. i thought this was most women but maybe not? maybe I’m a demisexual as they say. Organic attraction is great but dating apps make it more shallow and that makes it very challenging. I tend to not like “too attractive”, to me it screams arrogance and it just doesn’t turn me on. For hookups the main factor is looks, if you dont plan to see the guy ever again why bother with anything else. But for relationships it's different, there's no amount of hotness that can make someone tolerate someone they hate. People might start relationships based on looks but I'm pretty sure that all the ones that last had personality and life goals as the main thing
