This is an open discussion about the emotional aspect of relationships between men and women. I just want to hear y'all's thoughts about this subject, what do you think generally happens in relationships and what are your personal experiences on the matter.

I wouldn't call it emotional labor as I don't really think such hostile terms are quite fitting in something that two people willingly engage in. But what we're talking about here is simply how much space the two parties have where they can simply open up about their emotional and psychological problems so that the other party can learn to work around them, comfort, validate, help, and so on...

Personally, I've always seen that women always took up much space in this department in terms of how vulnerable, weak, and emotional they're allowed to be because it becomes too much. Of course, this is due to several reasons such as social conditioning and so on... Anecdotally, whenever I or some of the men I knew took up too much space by maybe complaining, venting, and just overall airing out grievances either more than we used to, just like her, or more the whole dynamic of the relationship changes unlike how it doesn't necessarily change that much when the woman does it. Suddenly it becomes something unbearable, something bad, and of course, something that needs to be changed and addressed quickly whereas when the opposite happens none of these expectations and pressures to remove it and cut it out as quickly as possible existed.

Q4W: What do you think that gal meant when she said emotional labor and finding it hard to teach him basic empathy and respect?

Here is the post if you're unaware of it.
