The observation of original sculptures, relative to the modified ones, produced activation of the right insula as well as of some lateral and medial cortical areas (lateral occipital gyrus, precuneus and prefrontal areas). When volunteers were required to give an overt aesthetic judgment, the images judged as beautiful selectively activated the right amygdala, relative to those judged as ugly.
The main question we addressed in the present study was whether there is an objective beauty. Our results gave a positive answer to this question. The presence of a specific parameter (the golden ratio) in the stimuli we presented determined brain activations different to those where this parameter was violated.

I find the fact that this along with short-man syndrome still being a thing in 2025, to be absolutely crazy. Really take a minute to think about this scenario...

A short guy gets treated poorly by women from a young age, starting in high school.
He reaches an age where he starts using social medias, seeing women posting about how worthless short men are, while receiving hundreds of thousands of likes.
He starts dating and gets rejected due to his height.
After constant rejections he turns to dating apps, where all he sees are profiles of women shitting on short guys.

After being mentally strong enough to go through all of this, the height gets used against him in his daily life, even outside of any dating context. Any emotion shown from anger to frustration: "Ohh Napoleon complex", "#Shortmansyndrome", etc.

Women will bully short guys for their entire lives and then in adulthood ask them why they are so insecure about their height and that the insecurity is unattractive. Not only that, but imagine the men who somehow withstood all this hate and bullying and did not become resentful or insecure? It does not matter, they will be given the short-man syndrome title either way, just by virtue of being short. Imagine the fact that this one characteristic gets brought up completely unrelated, almost as a form of gaslighting to prevent the person from being able to show any anger ever, essentially.

I would like to do a thought experiment. Everything I have written so far, put a woman in that place instead of a man and change it from height to anything else of your choice. Would this be as socially acceptable without any repercussions? Would you be able to say these same things on social media under your actual first and last name with a photo of yourself without risking facing any pushback?

I am not even short myself, but I can just empathize with men who were dealt a genetic card which they have no way of doing anything about, while still getting shitted on 24/7 in not just a dating context, but everywhere else. That is disheartening.

Looks are only a determining factor on people's success when we are talking about the extreme ends of the bell curve. For normal people What you do will determine if you are romantically successful or not.

Almost all of the people reading this comment have people of the same looks rating as themselves that are successful and others of equal looks that are total failures. What makes the difference is what they do.

Interesting thing I've noticed and not sure if it's been pointed out before: sex differences in the importance of looks in short term vs long term-dating .

As for hookups and flings men aren't choosy when they're horny and will fuck basically anything that moves. They will, however, not commit to these women. Men want their actual girlfriend to be pretty or at least a looksmatch.

But for women it appears to be the other way around. They're very picky about who to hook up/have a fling with (we all know OLD statistics) but will "forgive" the not-so-great looks of their longterm-partners if he can make up for it with boyfriend qualities.

I've noticed a trend. Whenever something that might potentially make women look bad happens, women will cope and act like whatever they're called out on isn't actually happening or true. Biggest example of this happened a few days ago when I saw a viral TikTok. The TikTok was about a woman who got a tattoo of her partners name. The video itself wasn't a problem, but the comments very obviously showcased a lot of women's thoughts on specifically height and how important it is.

But the moment a comment called out what was happening, a bunch of women came to the defense by saying it wasn't actually happening when it VERY obviously was. They made defensive comments like "it has nothing to do with height" and "no one is mentioning height" when quite literally every single comment with any amount of likes were obviously about his height. Why exactly do women do this? Do they actually think people don't notice they're completely bullshitting? Why is it so hard for them to acknowledge things like these when it's happening right in front of them? Do they actually believe anyone is falling for their gaslighting?
