I won't pretend to fully understand the philosophy of Men Going Their Own Way, despite technically being one myself. But I think MGTOW essentially argues that women aren't worth pursing. That by itself pisses a lot of people (most obviously women) off, but my main issue is with the inherent contradiction in their worldview: according to mgtow women are innately selfish and demand that men devote their lives/resources/appearances to women's' wants. But assuming this is true why on earth would men-as a group-ever be allowed to freely go their own way? If there are a bunch of single men sitting around doing the bare minimum to keep themselves alive, a 'gynocentric' society will inevitably pressure them into doing more. If men remain hardworking but keep their income for themselves a gynocentric society will just raise taxes and take their 'surplus' wealth that way.

If anything traditionally patriarchal societies rely even more heavily on 'disposable men' than whatever is evolving in the modern west. In the the global south men are fully expected to fight and die for their (often hypothetical) family. Japanese herbivore men are sometimes held up as a role model for more aggressive and bitter incels, but from what I've read Japan (particularly Japanese women, despite their own professed indifference to dating and family) resents the herbivore man and blames him for falling birth rates and stagnating productivity.

To a lesser extent all this applies to wgtow/female separatist types as well, but I believe social sympathy for women (particularly in the west) is higher and therefore they won't get the brunt of this negative attention. Articles arguing that 'men aren't pulling their weight' get published in the NYT; afaik the opposite isn't true.

And tbh this makes sense: if women can't/won't start a family society is screwed in the long run. If men don't get laid its only a problem insofar as it affects the above. But it will affect the above. Raising a family is a massive drain on time and resources, and most women can't properly do it alone. And here is the final tragedy of MGTOW: the likely solution to this problem will be to redistribute men's wealth to (childrearing) women, no 'unfair' divorce or child support laws required. In short men will still lose even if they refuse to play. And with the rise of sexlessness in the west I fully expect all the associated issues to be placed squarely on mediocre misogynistic men not trying hard enough.

tldr: MGTOW isn't a solution, it's a future scapegoat.
