I think it’s a common idea about what’s going on with men: the idea of an ugly dude that is upset because he can’t get hot girls he’s actually attracted to but he isn’t even considering ugly girls. Let’s take a step back though. Let’s assume this is actually happening. Sounds like a delusional guy that needs to wake up the way it is framed. But who decides the guy is ugly? The hot girl? The dating apps? You? Him? It’s always subjective. Everyone can have a different opinion. But if the guy is being optimistic, he’s supposed to have good self esteem. He’s not gonna be seeing himself as ugly. He’s not supposed to at least. Then he has problems. No wonder no girl wants him. Who decides what his value is and what his standards should be? How he does on the dating apps? How someone else esteems him? Or how he sees himself and what he wants?

Neither his self-esteem nor his standards are supposed to be determined externally by a good, confident man that intends to date women imo. That results in a man marrying a woman he’s not attracted to. Which is prob gonna be dysfunctional. These things are supposed to be determined internally. He’s supposed to be a persistent self-starter that goes after what he wants. Not a powerless loser that gives up at the hint of defeat.

Not to mention if something like success on dating apps is taken as a measure of what you need to tailor your standards and self-esteem to, something like 2/3 of men would be settling for the bottom 1/4 of women. Your “results” are always biased and thus can’t be counted on as the truth of the matter or something.

For people framing the “ugly” guy as delusional, I think believing in an objective reality to this stuff is itself delusional. It’s just a big network of subjective opinions. Some things may end up more popular than others but that’s the most you can say. All that really matters is how you see yourself, what you want, what you don’t want, how hard you’re willing to try to get what you want, and what you’re gonna do if you don’t get it. People need to stop trying to pressure people into doing something they don’t want to do by saying that’s the level they are on obviously
