I feel the same way about any comedian that overuses their gender, sexuality, race, or ethnicity in their stand-up routine. There’s some comedians that try to beat you over the head with their identity, whereas I think the funnier ones tend to mix it up and make jokes that anyone can get or relate to. Writing what you know is one thing, but making it the cornerstone of your act is just annoying.

Maria Bamford is one of my favorite comedians, and she is insanely funny. Jen Kirkman is high up on the list of all time greats too.

I think there's more shitty comedians than good ones in general. I have plenty of female comedians that I love, but the greats tend to be men. I don't think that means that women aren't funny at all.

Are you guys sure you guys might not like female comedians because of their intended demographics? My wife and I watch a lot of stand ups. There are plenty of comedians that overlap in terms of what we like. However, there’s plenty of comedians that we like individually. As it happens, the hers are often female and mine are often male.

Comedians, just like any other entertainer target demographics to gain a strong audience base. I don’t like any country/southern comedian, but that doesn’t mean they’re bad. I can also identify many comedians that I like but I expect that others will likely not enjoy because their jokes are relatable to me than others.

Netflix is actually really good at identifying this. They make a lot of poorly rated content that have incredible following in specific niche.

Wasn’t there an experiment at some point, where men and women got the same scripts to perform from yet despite all those similarities, the men performing tended to get lots and more laughs than the women? Didn’t the end result say we as a society tend to not view women as hilarious or smth and that played a part in why there was such a difference between the audience’s reactions? One thing is to be a terrible comedian/writer overall but if your gender already gives you an dis/advantage, then it’s pretty much like beginning from very different start lines with the same goal, in a race.

Edit: just thought of AI’s. They could eliminate the “he/she delivered the punchline or whatever better/poorly” when they literally are the exact same movements, speech patterns and everything but a slightly different voice and a little different body.
