You can do whatever you want. Asking for consent is never wrong. But, you'll probably turn a lot of girls off and it will probably make you less successful with women in the long run. We communicate with more than just our words. If you get good at kino escalation and body language then you don't need to verbally ask. Knowing the right time to kiss is 100x more attractive than asking. I can't say anything about your specific situation though. All girls are different, you know this girl better than anyone on Reddit so that one's all up to you.

I usually ask, never been told no. Sometimes it happens naturally. Most of the women that i've been with have said that they liked that i asked because most or none of the men before me had and they appreciated it. "Is it wrong to ask a girl for her permission before I go for a kiss?" Morally? No. In fact that's the most explicit way to receive consent. But I would be remiss if I didn't admit that explicitly asking for a kiss can have a detrimental effect on you success with that girl overall.

During my tenure in my PUA community the problem of consent surfaced in the public mind as a serious question and we wrestled with it. We really really wanted explicit consent to not be detrimental or at least be viable. We did extensive field testing over a long period of time and the results were disappointing. In an effort to stay within the scope of the post I won't go into depth here but if you are interested in the minutiae of the research then let me know.

Its possible to explicitly ask for consent in a sexy and attractive way but these are rare, context dependent occasions and are still being explored. What we found to be a much better strategy is to use "Incremental Escalation". Very briefly, incremental escalation is a way to get from opening to closing by breaking up the process into smaller steps. Allow me to explain. It is awkward to walk up to a stranger and immediately ask her to go home with you. But if we work up to asking her to go home with you in smaller, incremental steps then you can build up to that. In other words, its difficult to get a girl to go from point A to point Z. But its easy to get her to go from point A to point B. Then, once you're at point B, its easy to get her to go to point C and so on until you do eventually reach point Z.

So the virtues of incremental escalation are myriad. First of all you can comfortably and naturally work towards closing in a smooth way. You'll have a much higher chance of reaching closing if you work up to it incrementally. But another virtue of incremental escalation is that it provides room for tacit consent. For one, there are many stops along the ride in which she is welcome to get off. But more importantly, if you are coming close the line she has drawn then incremental escalation will ensure that there will be a point that is extremely close to that limit in which she can express that she does not feel comfortable going further. If you escalate in large steps then there is the possibility that you might blow right past her limit before she even has the chance to tell you that you are approaching it.

One of the most astounding virtues of incremental escalation is the capacity for them to be turned into expressions of consent in and of themselves. Allow me to explain.

Breaking the touch barrier is difficult to do. Often this step is puzzling for guys. However there is a move that I want to explain to you that will revolutionize not just the way you break the touch barrier but also escalate and gain consent. If you want to break the touch barrier try this: Say to the girl "you wanna do a shot with me at the bar?" and hold out your hand. With a high rate of success she'll put her hand in yours and you can lead her up to the bar. Its tacit consent for handholding but by all measures its as good as explicit consent.

So you can explicitly as a girl if you can kiss her. I will applaud you for it. However if you want to cultivate great game then you should probably incrementally escalate instead. If you are at the club/bar instead of "lets go do a shot" try "you wanna dance?" and hold out your hand to lead her to the dance floor. Once there start dancing of course, if you're behind her then while your dancing very casually lean forward and kiss her on the cheek. Then asses. Then maybe spin her around and kiss her on the mouth. Work up to it so theres not a huge awkward jump but rather a smoot build up, a natural progression. This will also give her a chance to express herself (before its too late) if she feels she's uncomfortable going further.

Flirting is a good tool to detect attraction. I personally dissociate indices of interest in two : Passive IoIs and Active IoIs. Passive IoIs come from her alone and are not directly triggered by your behavior. They tend to often either be really subtles and can easily be misinterpreted or not detected. Active IoIs are triggered by your behavior, either it's using words or physical communication. They are a much more powerful interest detector because they are polarizing the girl while indirectly providing you a response on what she thinks about you. As an example, next time a girl owes you something, you can say that you want a kiss as a reward. That's playful and flirty, usually will lead is a simple laugh but if done correctly you could extract some hints about her attraction level. Depending on her reaction, you may know if she's into you or not, and sometimes you'll feel it's time to take charge of the kiss.

I've done this once before and never again. I was on a great first date, everything was spot on. I asked her if I could kiss her. She immediately looked turned off and said "why are you asking me?" Next time just go for it and if she turns you away then she’s not really into you, and even less if she doesn’t talk to you again or rejects a second date. But. I think everyone loves someone that can advocate for their own needs and clearly express their desires.

So something like, "I really want you to kiss me right now." while holding her gaze (in a confident, not creepy way) establishes what you are thinking about, and also respectfully puts the ball in her court because you're saying you want her to kiss you, not that you want to kiss her (which might seem more forceful or like a trap she has to agree to, depending on the woman and her experiences with forceful men who don't take no for an answer).

There’s been times I was new to dating and nervous. I could tell the girls I was with were into me but I was scared to make the move to kiss them because of a silly fear they might reject me. So I would ask them or tell them that I wanted to kiss them. It instantly kills the tension but they always let me kiss them anyways. It wasn’t hot and usually just a few soft kisses. Once I built up my confidence I realized how I was destroying the vibe by being insecure and not confidently going in for a kiss. They love the tension we build and she is just as excited for the moment to kiss as you are. When you go right in the mood is intense and you’re more likely to make out rather than just one little kiss. I’ll even joke with women now and ask them what if I would have asked for the kiss first. In my novice opinion, I think that was a shit-test to see how would you react. Always brush it off and laugh and don't lose your cool no matter what.

If you reply with something like "well, next time I you'll be the one asking for permission and I'll think about it" ( along with a big smile ) your chances will greatly increase if she agrees to see you again.

Next time if you're having a blast, just go for the kiss. It's always better to apologize than to ask permission if it's just a kiss, so don't over do it or step out of line.

You can say something like this line I got from a dating coach:

First off, it's obviously a very good sign this year remembered who you were and texted you to ask if you wanted to hang out.

.....at the end of the date I told her that I wanted to kiss her, she laughs and she told me maybe in the future.

Based on what you've said of her response, it seems pretty likely that she found your question charming even though it was a little awkward.

For future reference, it's not bad to ask for consent but a lot of our social interactions are built on nonverbal communication, and because of this it can be a little awkward if someone ignores that and bluntly asks.

For example, in this case, during the date she would have been showing signs as to whether she was comfortable with you and her personal space or comfortable with physical touch.

Reading these cues would be the next level for you. And it doesn't really need to be that complicated. We're talking about paying attention to what her physical response is whenever you come into contact or come into her personal space.

Does she pull away and discourage physical contact or you coming into her personal space bubble?
Or does she lean into contact and do things that encourage the two of you being physically closer?

Paying attention to these things is the start of learning to understand how to navigate these sorts of interactions better unless awkwardly.

Basically, if she's pulling away and discouraging physical contact, then you respond in suit. And if she's encouraging physical contact and leaning into it, then you go with that, if you're interested anyway.
