Men: I'll insult her she will surely like me and find me funny
Women: Ew, you disgust me
Men: *pikachu shocked face* I just belittled a person I don't know, I don't know why she wouldn't like me

I think it's more like LV Men: This woman looks successful/beautiful/smart/happy let me say something to take her down a peg. I don't realize this but a woman being beautiful and happy and living a good life makes me ANGRY, if I could I would act with violence but since I can not I will use violent language. HOW THE FUCK CAN SHE EXIST. LET ME TAKE HER DOWN A PEG.

And if you stick around after the negging, they know that they can continue to treat you like that through the relationship and mentally control you with it. It sets precedent

D1 athletes always tell you they’re D1 athletes man. lmaooo
[–]Sage_PlanterFDS Disciple162 points163 points164 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
OMG YES
Even though I'm in my early thirties, men still boast their former D1 athlete status. Brad, you graduated from college over ten years ago, and you've definitely put on weight. Let's move on...
[–]werker115FDS Newbie44 points45 points46 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Haha seriously..by 30, no one cares about your school anything, frat or athlete..

When I tried Tinder, they’d have literally nothing in their bio except that they used to be a D1 athlete, it was so cringey
[–]Half_HaltFDS Newbie22 points23 points24 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Was just coming here to say this! Lmao. We had a kid at our gym who was not only a D1 wrestler, but also among the top 10 ranked D1 wrestlers. Occasions he ever mentioned being a top 10 D1 wrestler = 0. Occasions men who never wreatled at a collegiate level came in claiming to have been D1 = 1,000,000.
Same with the NFL players I've met. None mention what they do unless you point blank ask.
ETA: It isn't just sports, either. It is anything they do. There's a guy on the 3+ decades & still struggling to adult sub (as I like to call it) who claims to be a theatre guy & he's looking for a vegan manic pixie dream girl who is into the arts, too. Just not one that is going to outshine him (that's the subtext). Meanwhile, dude reveals that he has no headshots, or even an IG account for promoting his acting stuff because he "hasn't really done anything professionally. Because headshots are a requirement for pretty much anything, pro or not, he's obviously lying about how much involvement he has inthe industry.
Meanwhile, at the music store I had a wildly successful studio musician/songwriter who came in because we carried a brand of guitar that sponsored him. He chatted with me about other things for like 20 minutes then went into the guitar room & went crazy playing. As he was leaving, he whispered, "btw, I'm wildly successful studio musician/songwriter sponsored by Guitar Company," and left us looking 😱. I'm also like 99% sure a mysterious man that came in with a little girl right before closing was Jack White. He didn't play anything even when a guitar was offered & was focused 100% on what the girl wanted to try out.

If this is you, please don't respond to these types of comments! The point of these is to make you upset enough to respond, reporting and unmatching is the best course of action.

This. They win when women respond. They don't care about how witty we can be.

as unsatisfying as it is, it's best to just auto-block/reject men who so obviously neg you instead of trying to respond back and put them in their place. they get off on getting literally any attention from women and we shouldn't even bother acknowledging their existence. my understanding is that they think as long as they can get you to respond in any way, they have an in with you.
[–]FortisEtLiber_atedFDS Apprentice97 points98 points99 points 5 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link
Speaking as someone who actually graduated from law school—congrats, dude. You are in law school...as are thousands of other people. Unless Daddy has a law firm, you’ll be competing with the thousands of other unemployed lawyers. You’ll be set, all right. Set with $150k+ in loans, and you still may end up working at Applebee’s. People are continually shocked when they learn that not all lawyers make 6+ figures...only some of us do 😎But you go, man. You’re set 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
My advice to my FDS ladies: typically, I would say avoid lawyers in general LOL. But, tread carefully. Don’t allow a LVM to suck you in to a Barb the Builder role while he’s in grad/law/med school. Read about Betty Broderick & watch season 2 of Dirty John 👀👀👀 and if you meet in law school? He may sabotage your success. I learned all the tough lessons already so you won’t have to suffer through them ❤️
[–]typeadhdFDS Newbie41 points42 points43 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Lots of sociopathic men are drawn to high prestige high earning jobs even doctors
I know way too many male lawyers who are absolutely horrible people great at their jobs but as a human not quite so good tread carefully all

Say that! I tell my friends this stuff too! I have a list of professions to avoid and lawyer is at the top of my list!😂
[–]Ghost_namesakeFDS Newbie10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
I need to know more about this list
[–]JustMe2008FDS Newbie34 points35 points36 points 5 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link
So I preface this with a disclaimer that this is only based on my experiences (I have a 3 strike rule) and advice from others. It is not meant to offend but to make me and my friends really vet who we date so I apologize in advance.
My automatic dismissals:
*Attorneys - I have seen/encountered a number of narcissists or worse in law school and beyond, some of whom are terrifying and in high powered positions. We are also known for having alcoholism and substance abuse problems due to job stress.
*Law Enforcement - A close relative said naw sis to them because they have a pattern of serious domestic violence issues due to job stress and the nature of SOME of the people who are attracted to that profession).
*Enlisted men who are now vets (not the ones who start off as officers due to bachelor degrees) - I have talked to 3 different men at 3 different times and they were wired differently. I'm talking blind obedience to authority with an inability to take responsibility for their mistakes (e.g., lying about having kids, terrible decision making, operate on military time so a lot of them get married and have kids early) which is frightening as well. I have a friend who divorced one and she will never date one again and told me to stop talking to the 3rd one. And they do tend to work in law enforcement...
*Teachers - My job makes this a conflict of interest for me plus I had an abusive ex who was a teacher so I avoid anything or anyone who reminds me of him.
Jury is still out on:
*Guys in finance/business - I dated one guy who was a tool, a tightwad, and had unnecessarily high self esteem. He dumped me for a petty reason (he thought I was going to bring him down because I have student loans to pay back) and because his mom and dad told him to due to my race. He was SHOCKED that I didn't take him back. I also took a class with MBA students and I was shocked at how callous a number of the male students were. And I was shocked at how rude and misogynistic a number of the higher level executives were when I worked in corporate America.
*Doctor and dentists - It's stressful running a practice if they have one. They also have issues with alcoholism and substance abuse like attorneys.
Again, this is just my list. Take it with a grain of salt during your vetting process for future dates. The funny part is that the main guys who like me are on my automatic dismissals list, lol!
*Edited for typos 😁

I agree with this! My ex was a former CPA who went to data analytics but I think he was an anomaly. I would definitely date the financial models guys. I will continue avoid the guys in the other category. Thanks for making this distinction!
[–]BashRunesFDS Newbie10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I've had bad experiences with software engineers/web developers too! A disturbing number of pedos, obsessive gamers/anime fans, cheaters, substance abuse/alcoholism, the like. Lots of "male feminists" and they're brutal to other women in the field. There are good ones out there obviously but I've run into so many full on sociopaths in the field that I'm starting to just red flag 'em.

[–]FortisEtLiber_atedFDS Apprentice7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Disclaimer: I’m speaking from my own experiences, and these views are not intended to be representative of all lawyers. I’ve met plenty of lawyers I deal with professionally and socially enough to know they’re good men. BUT, the practice of law tends to attract certain personalities.
When I was in law school, I noticed a lot of my classmates focused on the prestige & $$ possible. True, you can make decent money as a lawyer...but the majority won’t. When these classmates graduated, they realized that they were not going to get a corner office and six figures right off the bat. They believed they were entitled to a certain level of prestige just for going to law school. They would never be honest with themselves about why THEY weren’t at that level—or consider that they just weren’t in the same category with top attorneys. This entitlement would carry over in to other parts of their life, including relationships. Going to law school is just the ticket to entry. The rest is on you/the individual.
Private practice attorney salaries vary greatly, from as low as $40-$50,000 to $190,000+ to start. Law school easily costs $150K+ for the 3 years. Most law students aren’t on scholarship but some are. Law is very pretentious—everything rides on your LSAT score, exams, class rank, etc. There are some practice areas that tend to be more lucrative, but are highly competitive.
I was in a relationship with one of these types. Wanted the prestige, but not willing to put in the work. He tore me down for choosing not to practice, acted like I was a quitter or couldn’t hack it. I chose a different route and have a flourishing career making 2-3x what he made as a lawyer. Also, he was unethical and always looking for ways to take advantage of people. Some lawyers act like they’re above the rules. Couldn’t trust him.
[–]quaintrellFDS Newbie1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Thank you for sharing your experience! I definitely noticed the obsession with prestige and status.
[–]FortisEtLiber_atedFDS Apprentice3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You are most welcome! It’s hilarious sometimes how obsessed they are with status & feeling entitled to it, regardless of actual skill/ability. It’s harsh, but no one cares that “you liked to argue with people” as a child or that you think you’re like (enter TV lawyer name here.) I’d pay a lot of attention to how they handled setbacks and frustration, or dissatisfaction with their current job or lack thereof. Is he constantly complaining/whining without actually attempting to make changes? Is he looking for shortcuts? Does he express actual respect/admiration for others in higher positions, or does he act like they all got ahead because of ( insert “unfair” treatment of mUh PeNiS!!!! Here)?
My ex actually blamed women for his lack of success. Yes, women. We were “allowed” to attend school, and now we’re competition. That attitude, in addition to being a raging narc, led him to sabotage me personally and professionally. Fortunately his attempts were futile but it was alarming. This type of man will turn off your alarm in the morning & cause you to be late. Hell text you and call you repeatedly when he knows you’re at work or otherwise engaged. He’ll punish you in various ways for getting more attention & respect than he does. Will always belittle your accomplishments and try to make you feel like you shouldn’t be excited about things. One of the worst things I experienced was him trying to attack my happiness or excitement over something that had nothing to do with him. You’re not allowed to be happy unless he allows it! Always looking for the easy button/shortcuts and expecting instant gratification always bleeds over in to the relationship. And eventually this attitude will cause him to suffer real consequences professionally. In law, he can get his license suspended or he can be disbarred. And guess who he’ll blame for his lack of achievement and for his mistakes? You.
One of the many reasons I avoid lawyers now, even though I technically am one 🤣

A man saw a hot pilot and thought “I’m gonna call her a dumbass”
A pilot...you know how many organs women would give to have a hot woman pilot just to look in our direction and men just “hurdur I’m gonna tell you that you have no sense of humor if you don’t help me feel more secure about myself and how much I fail in life”
